well you know what i mean.. like i'd have speed to but thats not everything.. being on the road just driving my car is the only thing that cawms me down.

I was just rereading some of the posts and i was thinking about the cobra and did you all know that cobra daytona coupe had a 289 small block rated at a little over 500 horses. I saw some real cobras when i was in texas ,shelby has a museum down by mckinney .they are sweet.O and thanx for the remarks on my 63 ,i'll see if my sister will post some pics on here for me .its not done yet but its getting there.:banghead: Any of you that has ever built an old car know what im talkin about they are alot of work.

You can get around the money part by trading , helping other people in exchange for parts or help , alot of real car people will help the younger guys if the seem really interested in the hobby.I had a 50 chevy coupe gave to me for helping an old guy with his yard work ,he just gave it me all i did was comment on if he ever decide to get rid of it . was an ex gasser drag car ,no motor or tranny but it was a neat car.

EFF YOU!!
geez, Im startin to think some things:
1- that I was born in the wrong country. I need hot rods.
2- that Im starting to envy way too much people reading what they own/have owned.
all this is making me insane you know. SOME GUY GAVE YOU AN EX-GASSER? JUST LIKE THAT???
EFF YOU!!!

Cano

what happened to the car? :D

thats pretty sweet.. unfortuantly i'm not that lucky.. i have good news.. my friend found me a new 400 small block for my monte carlo.. so if all goes well i might get it and rebuild it to put into my car.

I know exactly what you mean. I was under mine the other day and noticed something I never saw before. Some rust under my radiator. The pan that holds my radiator up is starting to rust out. The really bad thing is that it is molded to a large part that also holds my headlamp bezel(sp?) I'm guessing the part would cost at least $400
to replace. Luckly I have a friend who's brother does metal fabricating. He is going to look at it tonight and give me a price on remaking a pan for it and welding it back in.

It's an ongoing process. A fun one but sometimes frustrating.

The part you are talkin about is a core support ,peach state chevelles has 1 for 45 bucks.and i have a friend who has a 400 bored 30 over and 1100 dollars of machine work it is still in the plastic from the shop you can buy for 1000 .and the coupe is still out back waiting its turn

and what does "its turn" will mean to the car? you gonna restore it to its gasser glory?? hell, if you make it a street car, you'd better KEEP THE FRONT STRAIGHT AXLE setup (asuming it has one... you said it was an ex-gasser) for that mile high look of the 60s drag racers that is OMFG OMFG OMFG SO COOL!!

Cano

so, tell us... :D

Ho-hum? Cobra's? What would I be doing in this thread?

;) Count me in.

Oh and FFR sucks balls, don't go with them, I've read that their customer support is complete ****.

Ahhh, if only I had the $$$ to get an authentic Shelby kitset. Sigh, I guess I'd have to save up.

I'd love to have the good 'ol carbied 427, the idling just draws me in, but the promise of more power from EFI is enticing, and the fact that it's a smooth EFI'd V8 doesn't hide the fact that its an angry 427.

Where's the misty eyed smilie?

This'll do:

Musclecarfan, Cano took the words righ out of my mouth. You lucky S.O.B. I wish people were as willing and helpful as that round here  .
Blue Pheonix good to hear you finally got that 400 block. Can ya post any pics??
DGB454 you gotta stick with it. I took my dad a year and a half to build his AC and nearly gave up on more than one occasion. The main problem I've heard from restoration jobs is that it does help if you've got an open mind to how much you wanna spend. It get into very high figures.
Welcome on in Cobraboy. Good link btw. I'm going to Goodwood next weekend to see some historic racing etc. The main line up of classic muscle cars I can expect are:
Mustangs
Flacons
Stingrays
427's and 289's
Daytona.
There the main V8 ones I want to see. So I'll try and get some pics for lot. :D. An I might be able to get a pic of my dads car.

THe resto job on the Chevelle was actually finished a few years ago. The only problem is that occasionaly parts have to be replaced or repaired. I don't mind that much though. There are a few things I still need to do but nothing major. Mostly under the car where problems pop up now and then due to age. Things like the core support. That is something you never see until you climb under to have a look around to see how things are looking. It's worth it though. I will be driving it till I can't drive anymore or till gas is obsolite.

If I happen to be around where you live any time, Il pee on your door. you are incredibly lucky. I would have put my hands o that thing since the dude gave it to me, and now I would be DRVING it. yeah, with the straight axle. hahaha, I woud have SOLD the 63 to get the gasser running. gassers are the REAL DEAL. I love their look, they look like they'll eat you and spit your remains offa those fenderwell headers... OMG, dude, you have the coolest ride in all GTP, even if it doesnt run. you have the greatest car in GTP.

hey. Well I've just got back form Goodwood and the historic race meeting. Man there were some machines out there today. Though I can't give all the pics at once, for some reason only one at a time. I'm only going to really post pics of big V8 bound machines. So here you are...
First one is of an AC Cobra vs. a specially modified Jaguar E-type. It has some fancy body work on or something. But the Cobra is a Le Mans coupe version of the 427. This car was the main challenger for out right win in the one hour TT race, but had suspension failiure I think in the early stages of the race and was forced to retire.

They had a saloon car race as well base upon a sixties saloon car race. At the front were 2 Falcons and one Galaxie, which was pretty remarkable considering they handle like boats compared to the cars they were racgin. They were up against Mini's, Cortinas and Mk. 1 Jags for their main rivals. Where as the other cars had them round corners the Falcons and Galaxie just had it down the straight. Especially the Galaxie. It had a & litre V8 in it pushing out 350 bhp compared to a mini cooper. No competition.

The final race was for sports prototypes. IMO it was probably the best race of the day. It seemed that if you wanted to win you had to have a big blick V8 in the back of your car, Most of them did and put it to good and use and they actually made you phsically vibrate they were so loud. The main V8 powered front running machines consisited of:
a Lola T70 spyder,
Lotus's converted to take Chevrolet V8's,
Ford GT40's including the Gulf John Wire Ford,
and McLarens. The other cars were really specials etc.
The pic below shows the two leaders who fougth through out the race. The first car is a Lola T70 spyder and the second car is a converted Lotus 30 with a Chevrolet V8 in.

BTW Cano did you know that Repco (as in Repco Brabham) got their hands on the engine first. Also I think it was a Buick engine and not Chevrolet.:)

O_o I didnt know that, but as you say it was a buick engine, maybe brabham got their hands on the buick, because I know for sure rover got theirs on the genII small block.

Cano

also, HELL!!! why are all your pics SO small???? post some 800x600 pixel stuff!!!!
well, however, those cars are impressive. oh, and, EFF you again!!! you went to goodwood ¬¬U

Thanks Cano.
I wasn't too keen on making too larger pics, for starters I wouldn't of thought I would be able to but them on (to big a file size) and for people with poo modems they just wouldn't be able to see them. But for you sure ;) j/k.

It needs a basic rebiuld(wires seals etc.) but its very clean and big:trouble:
