No, but you can use it to kick ass at both the strip and the autocross lot... and haul a lot of groceries around in between.

Besides, be honest with yourself, Monster. If you were lining up against some jackoff who's ass you dearly wanted to kick, wouldn't in be all the sweeter if you did it in a $2500 minivan?

or, the other way around!! what if a guy you hated and wanted to kick his ass kicked yours in a $2,500 minivan? with WOOD IMITATION??
you would feel like it was a kick in he nuts, not the ass... if you ask me, the sleeper factor of these things make them as cool as a porsche. the fact that for way less money than the optional two-tone leather interior on the porsche gets you in the 11 second range is even better (:

Cano

kicking a porsche with one of these??? hell, yeeeeah!!!

The strip is one thing, but autocross.. I'd pay to see it.

I'm not saying it wouldn't make my day to beat someone I hated, in a down-played minivan. I'm saying at the end of the day, it is a turd.

With sticky tires, extra fuel/boost, it's a fast turd. :)

A turbo Dodge mini placed high in the autocross and drag standings at the first Grassroots Motorsports $1500 Challenge, which includes drag, autocross, and concourse judging. I believe it placed 2nd overall. That year, the budget was $1500, including purchase price of the car and all materials and labor not performed by the team itself.

Theres an article in a Top gear mag, and I think a guy managed to get a VW van to run sub 10secs on the 1/4 mile. It had nos and all.

Sound's impressive, what were the other vehicles?

The winner that year (1999 or 2000) was an MG Midget (or maybe a B, I forget) powered by a Cosworth Vega engine, which had an incredible amount of time and energy poured into its construction.

After the first $1500 Challenge, they upped the budget to match the year. So this years it's the $2004 Challenge. All materials used in the car, plus the car itself, plus any non-team labor, has a strict total budget of $2004. You need to provide all receipts, and all cars are subject to a claim rule to keep people honest. Knowing any competitor can pay you $2004 and walk away with your car stops people from showing up in, say a 10-year-old Porsche and pretending they bought it for $2000.

$2003's winner was a Ford 5.0-powered Miata, and $2002's was a BMW 2002 with a Thunderbird supercharger fitted to it. I forget what the $2001 winner was, but it might have been a turbo Omni.

I have the issue with the BMW in it. Quite an amazing car, if you ask me. For a front spoiler they took, if I'm not mistaken, a Moonvisor off of a Ford pickup and mounted it upside down.

That competition is very cool indeed. Here is a page with some pictures: http://www.grmotorsports.com/2003pictures.html

The 280ZX has a chevy 350 transplant. The Fiesta in the background of this picture

is a homemade SHOgun.

Is that the one with the Porsche engine? If so, he also owns a turbo'd Mini, one of the fastest in germany!

.

I love that challenge! Great stuff.

Dude, ten year old thread. Almost. Also those vans on Watanabes aren't anything new, really. I'd rather see more pics of the crazy vanning stuff.
