O.K I'm a little worried about the expectation I have for this one. In my mind the thought of improved engine sounds on my beloved GT5 sends me into elated excitement, I'm reaching for the paper bag as I speak as I am about to hyper ventilate, however read the small print and it says "Racing Sounds" NOT "Engine Sounds" so I have a feeling they have improved the sounds of the cars racing around us, hope I'm really wrong and they have tweaked the overall engine sounds but I'm a little suspicious as they put "Racing Sounds" not Engine Sounds.

As far as engine/exaust sounds go, PD has failed in every GT game. I seriously doubt it will change now. I certainly won't be holding my breath.

Remember that PD are Japanese and English isn't their main language, so possibly some words are similar/they get confused? Just a thought.

^ Agreed. It will most likely be all the other sounds we hear like tires, transmission, road and impact sounds. Those could all use improving so it would be a very nice addition. Adjusting the engine sounds on over 1,000 cars is probably not too likely. They said "racing sound", don't expect anything more than that and you won't be disappointed. 👍

People exaggerate about engine sounds being generally terrible. There are plenty of things that should be fixed with engine sounds, - one issue being that they're too monotonous, not many sound natural like the GT40. The main thing GT5's engine sounds need is less of that crazy loud whine that high powered cars have and when at the highest rpm's in a lot of cars.

That's logical. But, I'm not sure if that's a problem because it was posted on the US PlayStation blog.

i think it will be tyre squeal, gear changeing ect.
👍
I'll say gear changes need the most improvement, but I'm skeptical as to how much it could be improved along with whatever else they've adjusted.

The sounds are better than in any game, so I can't think of how PD can improve them.

As I've said a millon times, the problem is the samples. So I hope that this is what's being taken care of. If they change the sound effects how they are right now but the RM Corvette still sounds like a six cylinder, then I'll be dissapointed.

It'll probably be nothing, not getting my hopes up although I can already see countless threads popping up with " I noticed car X sounds better".

👍 maybe they mean engine , MAYBE .

its confusing for me what IS racing sounds ?

what is that exactly .

There has been a glitch where the tires wouldn't make sound, it would just be the sound of wind and engine. I only noticed it online, so they could hopefully fix that.

I already know I will be disappointed.

That's very pessimistic.
I bet if PD never brought this update forward, there would be less complaining.
Take any improvements to the game (however how small) as a bonus.

Crowds who cheer you on like on the Eifel course maker track. I don't think I've heard them anywhere else.

Hearing other cars around the track possibly.

Well, they aren't going to change engine sounds for sure. That would be FAR too much work for a patch. But what would be nice for me, would be if they improved the quality of the sound differences in each view. I think most of the cars sound fantastic (and often true to life if you don't change tranny and exhaust), but they really only sound what I would call "correct" or "good" in the far back camera view. But in bumber cam (which I always use) or interior view, the unique sounds of the each car are rediculously muffled and kinda all sound the same.

I would LOVE if the interior and bumper cam view's car sound is improved to sound as good as the "3rd person" camera view's sound, for lack of the proper term for the view.

WHile I'd love that, all I'm actually expecting is improved crash noises, and maybe getting rid of the high range whine of the custom tranny.

Know what would be cool?......random squeaky brakes. Like almost hearing the pads grinding down on the rotors. That's a fine detail I would never expect from any game though.

Enthusia (PS2) had this after upgrading cars beyond a certain level.

They could easily tweak the overall effects of the sound samples of the engine noises, it wouldn't be a problem. What would be cool is if you could have the engine noise of the rear view and have that on the bumper view and interior view that would be cool.

That would be exhaust, not "engine". ;)

I tend to split the sound up into intake, exhaust, and "engine"; the latter containing all the stuff people don't really want to hear. Intake is missing in GT.

Hopefully that annoying tranny whine will be toned down a bit.

I believe that this will mean that you can adjust the sounds on a deeper level. As in you can turn down specific sounds, like transmission whine, player tire squeal, player engine, player exhaust and gear shift and clutch sounds and then should be opponent sounds separate from player sounds. I would seriously turn the tranny sound all the way down as I don't like that annoying high pitched whine all day. Now I also expect that PD most likely retooled how the sound is played out for different fields so it will play better through those crappy stereo speakers and even moreso through 5.1-7.1 sound fields.

The Fully Customizable Transmission "whine" is fine. I'm assuming that they are straight cut gears since it's supposed to represent a race transmission. straight cut gears have that faint whine.

I have more of a problem with the in car sounds. Seems like i'm in a vacuum sealed area. Every car i've driven around redline and high rpm is quite loud. Even cars that are praised for being quiet.

But "racing sounds" seems very vague. Knowing PD, they probably changed something really small and minor that most of us won't even notice.

I have great stereo headphones and I'd like PD to improve mixing for stereo systems, currently not very good.

Seconded; they could even use the virtual surround tech they're using for the Sony "7.1" headphones, or whatever they're called. The current virtual surround mode is 5 channel...

I know. But it is way the **** too loud.
