Note I love GT5 but.....

You reach Level 23 and unlock Formula Gran Turismo. Great you think. You go looking for the only car that you can use. Oh you find its a Standard Car and therefore only in the random archaic second hand dealer section and therefore you can only buy it when you happen across it. Bad Design Part 1.

You then find it costs abouth 5,000,000 credits - not really bad game design but certainly not conducive to you buying it as 90% of people at this point wont have that much and THAT is if it appears in the Used Car Dealer. I still say Bad Design Part 2.

Then you find you have to be Level 24, assuming you have the money and you find it in the Used Dealer, to buy the only car that is used in a Level 23 race. Bad Game Design Part 3 - DIng Ding Ding - We Have a Winner.

They pretty much stop you playing the game. It's Grind Grind Grind from about Level 20 anyway which is stupid in a racing game and then its just atrocious game design to have a Race be Level 23, the Car Level 24 and it being a random occurence.

Sloppy. Bad Design. Anti-Player. Call it what you will.

Yeah I have to agree with you on this one, it's like entering a chem 1 class that required chem 2 was taken first.

Agreed with this completely. I'm not looking forward to having that race. I'll probably grind past it and do something else!

So true. The east-asian grind mentality really has to go if this game has a chance of competing against its less-meticulous but more player-focused western counterparts.

I got lucky with the Formula Grand Turismo, it appeared earlier today.

But yes it is bad game design, anything that relies too much on random chance is bad game design, if you need a specific car for an event you should be able to win it from another event or buy it from the dealership.

Yes I too think the leveling system is a joke, it's made the license events completely redundant.

More of the same unfortunately.

Personally I can't believe PD abandoned the, potentially most ingenious level system in any racing game ever. The A-spec points system.

And for this....this......this level stuff?

It does seem to be one of GT5's many odd design flaws (the learning curve of this game is so out of whack anyway) but I guess there is always the option to just do everything else and keep checking the used car lot? Had to do that with the pick-up challenge, though admittedly they crop up more often. I would understand it being an issue more if it totally brought the game to a halt, but it doesn't, unless/until it's the only thing you haven't done, by which time that car shoulda showed up?

Hmm maybe i am being ignorant here, what are the entry requirements of that event? If it is Formula One, two cars are available as premiums, though admittedly expensive. What car is it you are waiting for?

Yeah, guys, how do you earn money in this game?

A spec mostly consists of events which require to buy some special car and has two or even one race. Means participating in events you loose money instead gaining.

For example Mini challenge: one race for which you should buy 30.000$ car and there is no use of Mini too much in other events. How much do I loose, 20 something thousand $?

AGREEEEEEEEE. I really cant say it enough, or loud enough. Kaz is passionate about what he does, but that sure as hell doesnt mean he's the best at it. He got lucky and did something people caught on to. All these years later he's been surprassed, others found better ways of doing all this, and he's arrogant enough to ignore the improvements made around him.

I hate having to go spend 30k on a car, spend 20k to make it competitive, then walk out having won 20k. That's a 30k loss to finish 1 event. The flow of career mode isnt balanced properly, the flow is all screwed up.

And I agree with the OP about that dumb ass used car section. WHY CANT I SEE ALL 800 OF THEM???????????????????????

That's biggest flaw of this game i think, unless you luck into a cheap competitive car in the used car lot your going to lose money entering these events.

I think if wasn't for the special events (which pay out mega bucks but only once) players would be grinding much earlier to make their cars pay off.

Not to mention that going to the used car lot means backing out through a ton of menus and then going into a ton of menus to see what's there, and if what you want isn't, then back out again, wade through more menus and reload more races to grind...

The most annoying thing is the amount of loading that happens just between menu screens... why do you need load screens just to move menus?

I really hate the grind but it doesn't make the game come to stanstill. The game can be completed with just Premium cars. However, I really hope we see some DLCs with extra events or competitions...

I mostly agree. I think its ridiculous to have to buy a certain car to be able to compete in a race just to win a worse version of that car in most cases. Same goes for the experience system to own cars and the complete uselessness of the licenses except for grinding.
But i find the idea of not being able to see all of the cars all of the time not so bad. It makes finding and owning that car you're looking for more special. Except when you need a certain car for some race that you can't win and have to wait for it for days to appear. That really sucks.
Maybe they wanted to 'force' the community to trade more, which in my opinion is also something good, because you find new friends...

I totally agree to that !

I never remembered any of this serious grinding business in GT3. I may have used the same car time and time again and loved it. I've only done the same race maybe 2 or 3 times, not 40 to get stupid amounts of money.

Yeah Kaz, why change what wasn't broken in GT3/4.

Those are not the same car. The only car you can enter is a standard car that costs 5 mil in the used car dealership.

No it can't, you need a Formula Gran Turismo which is only standard.

These levels are just dumb, they should patch them out. Well, of the regular races. Can keep them for event challenges and stuff, but not career racing. We get licenses to be able to race in a specific class, we don't need other restrictions. PD messed up in this game.

OK, which car is that? It is the *only* car you can enter? That's really weird indeed.

The grind is bad, but those AI cars are worste still.

Palm face moment: If you stop in the middle of the driving line in a slow part of the circuit, they just continously bump into you, like bump, bump, bump, bump for hours.

This is whinning at its best, you ain't supposed to be level 30 within a week, it's not a GRIND, it's a process, play the game, enjoy your time, you'll get there eventually, try different car in earlier events, this game wasn't made for cheap players.

You aren't supposed to make a game last long by artificially slowing down player progress.

Cheap players? What does that even mean?

I totally agree with the points raised, it seems that particular aspect of the game slipped them by, but wow, the reactions on this forum tend to border on childlike. Actually I take that back, they're undeniably childlike.

They really need to add a "list of all cars that qualify" for races so you know what to look out for and an option to set a "car alarm" so the game will alert you when a certain car is available in the used car lot.

That way at least you are saved the unpleasant journey through menu screens every few races to check the used car lot for who knows what.

Everything is whining these days, isn't it?

The OP raises a valid flaw in the game, and hell, I could raise a laundry list full of others. But, I don't want to be labeled a "whiner" by the core group.

No, sir, we can't have that, can we?

I'm not particularly happy with any of the game design decisions. It definitely feels like PD spend 5 years obsessively modeling a couple hundred cars 1 year designing the game. No where near as fun overall as GT4. There are some great things about GT5, but also a large number of inexcusable issues. Still, I have hope that these might be addressed with updates.

So since you can't take a single event immediately, it "stops you from playing?"

I didn't notice that events were prerequisite to all the following ones. Oh wait, I didn't notice because it isn't like that.

Seriously, I love how many nonsensical whines I read around here.
