Auto Modellista- The handling was terrible and the tuning way too limited. Plus the races were very often very easy. Though I didn't mind the graphics.

Secret Weapons Over Normandy- Bought it in a ruch on the boxing day sale at PCWorld. Was okay for a while.

US Navy Fighter- Bought it in the quest for a US fighter sim. It was 50p of play and um.... didn't work on Windows ME cause it needed real MSDOS.

I actually have a bad habit of buying games that I know are going to be bad...

But of course, there are ones that are supposed to be good but end up being crappy... :indiff:

Let's see, ones that I can think of off the top of my head (in no particular order) --

Gran Turismo 4 - PS2 - "The Really Disappointing 'Simulator'"

Stuntman - PS2 - Endless frustration, not so much with the loading times as most people have said, but the overall mediocrity.

Le Mans 24 Hours - PS2 - Charming, but mediocre Dreamcast port.

Ferrari F355 Challenge - PS2 - See "Le Mans 24 Hours."

Midway Arcade Treasures - PS2 - Charming, but buggy, slow, and ugly arcade ports.

Samurai Western - PS2 - Charming, but mediocre gameplay.

Need for Speed Underground 2 - GCN - I have no idea why I thought it was a good idea to shell out
money for this.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 - PC - Why in the world did EA decide to use a different development team for the PC, GCN, and XBOX versions?? (the PS2 version is excellent)

SHOX - PS2 - EA mediocrity at its best.

Soul Calibur 3 - PS2 - The excellence that is Soul Calibur, ported to the atrociousness that is the Tekken fighting engine. Result? Mediocrity. Soul Caliber 2 is a much better game.

Guild Wars - PC - Note to self: Don't let friends convince you to buy a game from a genre of videogame that you never find yourself playing anymore (it's an MMORPG, but I haven't been able to "get into" and RPG for years).

So why is half the thread about debating somone's opinion? Vice City cant hold a candle to the depth of SA. The driving physics were horrible in VC compared to SA, you cant please everyone. If its the atmosphere(ya no most white folks(not pointing fingers but making a point) didnt like the main focus being in da hood) then I cant argue your personal preference.

Games I reget:

NFL Gameday (original)
Konami's NFL FootBall for SNES
Madden NFL 2000 PS1 last madden game everplayed (Hooray NFL 2K)

The biggest disappointment I could think of was back in my PS1 days when I saved up 50 bucks and bought a game called "Roadsters" my god was that a horrible racing game. The physics were terrible. It was just one giant pixelated mess really.

Wow, even IGN agreees with me...http://psx.ign.com/articles/161/161757p1.html

Off the top of my head, I'm going to have to say:
Halo 2: Somewhat better graphics than the first, a ruined single-player campaign, and empahsis away from 16-player LAN and towards online play. If I wanted to pay to play an FPS online in addtion to paying for my modem, I would have played Planetside. Hell, at it's peak, Planetside was more fun.
Red Faction II: After playing what many thought of as the first true follow-up to Half-Life on both the PS2 and the PC, I sunk my money into the sequel at launch, and was dissapointed to find that all of the fun unscripted events, multi-tiered levels, well acted narrative and secrets galore from the first game were gone, replaced with a generic story, arcadey gameplay (I know the first game wasn't exactly Rainbow Six, but at least it didn't take liberties with simple physics) and a criminally short single player story tht was fully linear and prescripted. To balance this out, they made the multiplayer a little better.
Worst of all, GTA San Andreas. The more and more I played it, the more I realized that GTA has been going downhill in years, as GTA3 was the best of the series and Vice City was the most fun. The completely new physics engine was garbage compared to the one in Vice City, the game took away so much of the fun variety of Vice City (such as pizza delivery) and replaced it with variety of the unfun type (valet parking), stripped away the nonlinearity of the previous installments (I want to use whatever car I want to do street races, be it a obvious CRX clone or a obvious Piaggio clone) and filled the game with track shooting instead of the ability to drive and shoot without using a cheat, which other, similar games have had since since the original Mafia on the PC. Also, the weapons are now terribly unbalanced, the game is glitchier than Vice City ever was, and there is simply too much stuff to do that isn't fun. And all of this must be outweighed by better airplane physics, a longer, better written story and the abilty to climb and swim. Sorry, but just give me Vice City with the abilty to aim, swim and climb and I'll be happy.

Ferrari F355 Challenge - PS2 - See "Le Mans 24 Hours."
I don't know. I'm still of the opinion that Ferrari F355 Challenge is the closest anyone has gotten even today to a "real driving simulator." It's not so much on the fun (at least at first), but it's rediculously deep considering what you're presented at face value. It did look better on the Dreamcast though.

I love the arcade version of F355, not because it's a great sim, but because of the three screens, the loud, accurate, recorded Ferrari engine noises that send a chill up your spine, the track selection, the awesome clutch and 6-speed shifter setup, and the fact that it's more realistic than any other arcade racer, even if it isn't particularly realistic. 👍

I bought F355 for the PS2 because I needed something new and fresh to play, but without the three screens, surround-sound system for the engine noises, or clutch-and-shifter setup, it simply loses a lot of its charm. :indiff:

I won't argue with the fact that F355 was an impressive sim back in its day, but games like GTR/GTLegends, Enthusia, and Live for Speed have raised the bar much higher. It isn't that F355 is really bad...I would go so far as to say that it's "good" at realistic acceleration and braking, and even understeer...but as soon as the rear wheels break traction, the game doesn't even begin to know what to do with itself, and realism is thrown out the window. This is unfortunate, because half of the fun of a Ferrari is massive, screaming powerslides... :D

Therin lies the problem. While I have played all of those games at some point in time, and were impressed by their realism (particularly Enthusia. It's too bad it's so unfun to play.), I own both the Dreamcast and PS2 version of F355 challenge and own none of the other three. I simply have too much seat time with F355 when compared to any of the other ones. Based on my rather large experience with Enthusia, I must say you may be right about that game. As to the others, it's a wildcard.

Hmm, I need to think here because I've owned so many games.

DOA4 - Wasn't my type of game, I expected it to be.

TRD3 - I've hardly played it since I bought it. Hasn't holded my interest. I don't think I regret it that much though. What I do regret a little is buying the PS2 version when I just bought the Xbox one. I did this because the PS2's controls are easier, but now things aren't that much easier.

Age of Empires 2 for the PS2 - Need I say more? Garbage. Avoid.

Ridge Racer on PSP - It was alright for what it was, but I'm more of a simulator person and I hoped my thinking would change because it is on the PSP. It didn't. I returned the game the next day.

Burnout Legends - Oh dear. I'm probably too used to the PS2/Xbox versions. I thought the game looked bad and had a terrible framerate in crashes. Some people love it. I don't.

There are some PC games that I regreted, mostly because they didn't even work on the PC I was using... :(

I'm sure there are many other games out there, but they are the more recent ones I remember.

Soul Calibur has been using the same engine for the last three games (except that in SC3 GI'ing has been made easier). I think it's a great game.

I love San Andreas, I found VC boring and small...Tought, I regret selling VC.
I loved Driver 3 as well, but too much glitch and bigs ruined the gameplay, and the missions were like...impossible. Long and boring.
Auto Modellista was fun for 6 hours.

Auto Modellista was fun for 6 hours.

;)

That was another dissapointing purchase - at first it was great because of all the customisation that you could do to your cars, but as the game progressed it became apparent that the tuning etc options became more limited and repetitive which took the fun out. 👎

Nice graphics and speed effects though!

GTA SA was an ok game at first i thought, just that there was so much stuff to do i.e oysters, camera shots and the girlfriend thing really took the mick if you ask me. Furthermore the gangsta theme could have worked but in SA they really exaggerated it in my opinion, could've toned it down a notch or two. These things and others made the fun die down rather quickly for me - i didn't even complete it. I actually quite liked the long roads in SA through the countryside though!!

Now Vice City that's a perfect set-up in my opinion :D

I got MGS 3 (not limited edition) today and it sucked ass like I predicted... I don't know why I listen to you guys saying I should try before I make a comment. My gutt has been right 90% of the time. :dopey:

I never wanted to buy MGS3, because i knew i would be disappointed after the greatness of MGS2.

And as for San Andreas, no, i didn't really 'get' the theme if you know what i mean, It's nothing to do with me being white, i just didn't think it was cool. The story was boring and the characters were unlikable. Fighting gang wars is not fun. It seems like they just ran out of ideas and decided to fill the last part of the game with them.

Whilst the vast size of the game is a huge technical achivement, it is in no way fun. Driving for five minutes to get to the next mission, then forgetting where you are going and having to start again is just annoying. At least in Vice City i knew where everything was, but in San Andreas i still don't.

Just my two cents.

I didn't see the appeal of any of the MGS series I remember renting MGS and it sucked, I thought 3 would be to my liking but it wasn't. :indiff:

I'll just stick to FPS on PC that's a sure bet for me.

MGS2 was a great game at the time, the gameplay wasn't that advanced but it still holds up well even now. Like you though, i have now moved on to PC gaming :sly:

GTA San Andreas for me is a good game. Everything is improved from the older games IMO. Ok, the 80's theme and such from Vice City isn't there, and the story from both Vice City and GTA3 don't match SA's, but it doesn't really matter to me. The better graphics and huge scope of the game make up for it. An advantage to its size is that you are always finding something new, so you never get bored with it, but the disadvantage is that you can get a little lost (well, I do anyway  ), can get bored of driving all the time and it's bloody hard to find exactly what you want.

Final Fantasy X-2.

What was I thinkin......:dunce:
After really good Final Fantasy X,Square totally ruined the story and sold us Charlie's Angels: The Fantasy RPG.

*vommits*

Are you kidding? After i completed it i didn't want to play it anymore. I tried really, really hard to like it but i just couldn't.

Really?

I must admit after doing all the missions the level of interest does drop, but using cheats does up the fun again! :D

And no, I didn't use cheats for the missions. I'm not THAT much of a cheater. :)

I didn't use cheats at all either.Ok maybe messing around is fun, but the amusement of running around and shooting people/cars wore off pretty quickly as i had already done it before in Vice City.

Also, some people have said they regret buying GT4. Whilst i can relate with your opinion in some ways, i do not regret buying it, but i have definitley lost interest in it.

Well, i'm gonna play BF2 now. Bye.

I argee. It has nothing to do with the color of your skin, but the color of your skin has something to do with the way you were rasied and your perspectives of life and other cultures. SA has too many things you can't relate to or understand. Being an italian and killing and stealing is more your flavor and something you can relelate to, no? And then there are those who just didnt care. i could be wrong.

Yeah i guess. I found Vice City easier to relate to purely because i found the story more interesting and i thought the lead character was pretty cool, and mysterious. He was out for himself rather than trying to avenge his family etc, racial issues don't really have anything to do with it.

Thats true. But when i heard San Adreas was based on the 90's bloods VS crips type theme I knew many fans wouldn't like that. However they dont use the "F" word near as much as The Getaway. I liked the idea behind GTA:SA. Since I can relate to it more seeing that Boyz N Da hood, Colors and Mence To Society are some of my favorite movies and all were the influenced behind San Andreas.

Well, I didn't purchase it (thank goodness), but I regret renting the new Driver.

Terrible. The series has gone down the drain since the 2nd.
The 1st and 3rd were the only great ones imo.

FPS_nOOb
Yep, good thing I did the same... it was soo bad I took it back the next day.
I'll be considering that option after 1 more time with the game.

I really want to see how "2006" looks. The physics are terrible though. I prefer the storyline, cars, controls and everything else of Driv3r to this.

Hopefully all the PS3 games will rule outright, they do at least on a graphics level for now.

Since picking games hasn't gone so well lately, I'm gonna rent the PS2 version of the new Ghost recon, if it goes well I'll buy it for the PC. I'm expecting it to be good.

Back in the day i bought Puma Street Soccer for the Playstation 1, merely because it was cheap and sounded good at the time. Oh how i was wrong, the AI was ridiculously hard on any mode and they seemed to equalise everytime you scored a goal 👎 which made the game very un-enjoyable. The super shots that you could do were nice though. 👍

Soul Calibur has been using the same engine for the last three games (except that in SC3 GI'ing has been made easier). I think it's a great game.

Perhaps, perhaps not, but I know this --

- Soul Calibur 3's graphics seem very different from Soul Calibur 2's. Not really that much "better-looking," but noticably different, and very reminescient of Tekken 5, IMO. Some possible proof of this is the fact that the ground cracks and breaks when characters fall on it, but only in one place at a time -- just like Tekken 5.

- The character movements in Soul Calibur 3 also seem very different from Soul Calibur 2. While SC2's animations were very smooth and fluid, SC3's are more brisk, mechanical, and fake/stupid-looking -- just like Tekken 5.

Since the graphics are Tekken-like, the animations are Tekken-like, and the Soul Calibur series was originally based on a tweaked Tekken 3 engine anyway, I believe Soul Calibur 3 is just "Tekken 5 with weapons."
