When did this happen? I just read about this on reddit.

Look at Dan Greenawalt's response to someone:

Thanks @urmie for posting that. A couple days ago I won a VIP code, which I was going to pass on to a friend (thinking I didn't need it since I have the Ultimate Edition). Now I'm reconsidering.

Then again, it'll probably just come up as "you already own this", so who knows.

I checked the Windows store, nowhere is 'limited to 25 races' mentioned.

Update: Adding pic of store in case they change it.

  • The store mentions VIP CR Bonus Mods.
  • Mods are consumable.

It's vague as one would need to know what a Mod is first before understating how the VIP versions work but technically they're not lying.

I recommend holding on to them until you're going to do a very long race.

It's clear they didn't use commas. Read the first line: "Exclusive cars Mods Driver Gear and more...."
How do you read that? They capitalize the next word as a feature. So, "receive additional benefits including 100% CR bonus Mods VIP..." = "receive additional benefits including 100% CR bonus, Mods, VIP Driver Gear and more"

Most folks know what VIP is from past Forza titles (hence the big backlash), if they are going to be slick about it, then their messaging is way off, but messaging seems to be an issue with team Xbox in general.

@PJTierney weren't there some mods in FM6 that were unlimited use? Why can't the VIP mods work the same way? I'm just baffled by this.

Just wondering - is this subject being discussed in the official forums?

Edit: @zotobom - we seem to be remembering similarly. There were some mods that had infinite usage.

For what it's worth I never saw VIP as being worthwhile in the Xbox One generation of titles.

In Forza Motorsport 4 you got:
  • VIP Car Pack
  • Free Unicorn Cars every few months.
  • Your Auction House sales appear at the top of search results.
  • Your Storefront sales appear at the top of search results.
  • Your Storefront capacity was doubled for all item types.
  • You could upload more photos and videos to ForzaMotorsport.net (this is before consoles had built-in screenshot tools).
  • Exclusive Rivals events.
  • Monthly gift cars with unique liveries.

VIP seems to be dropping in value with each new game. back in Forza 4 you got 100% credit boost, vip exclusive cars, and Free gift cars every month that where actually unique each month rather then glitching out and giving 20 each of the same 5 cars like FH3. VIP in 7 is a bit underwhelming. Main reason I am getting VIP is because I plan on getting the Ultimate edition for the discount on the car pass. Whenever I get the extra money to finally buy the game.

WTF??? This is totally not cool and something that should've been told to us early on. Those familiar with me know I'm very much a "read the fine print" kind of guy - so I'm peeved that I didn't know about this ahead of time.

Truer words have never been spoken, ykiki.

I found this out 10 minutes ago...and I bought the game 20 hours ago thinking I was a VIP...it looks like my membership gets revoked after 25 races.

Having not purchased the game yet, I've decided to just get the base version instead. I was pulled more towards the Deluxe this time around as I just wanted to see what the DLC packs looked like first, and now I think I'm just skipping the alternate versions all together.

This is a bit disappointing.

I already preordered the standard edition and was going to chip in for VIP membership if it were worth it... glad I held off.

I actually like this a lot. In the previous games being locked out of normal progression of XP and credits unless you paid $19.99 seemed incredibly messed up to me. And now all the VIP cars are Forza Editions so it doesn't feel like you're missing out on anything important if you play the base game with no VIP.

I didn’t realise the VIP Bonus was temporary until it disappeared. Looks like Turn 10 like ripping off the fans. At least the Escort FE gives 30% extra credits and 5000XP every time you use it. I can see it getting a fair amount of use to make up for the the pitiful amount of credits the game deigns to give us.

Fortunately the most expensive cars are considerably cheaper than they are in the Horizon games.

Disappointed. Glad I bought the standard version, will be getting the car pass in the near future and that's about it.

Found this on reddit earlier tonight, painfully accurate...

I do hope Turn 10 see the light with the backlash from the fanbase.

Do not disagree with many here as this is very disappointing. But you know what? Thanks to this, I won't make the same mistake again in the future, but I won't lie and say I was cautious whether I buy it early or not. I only got the ultimate edition to play it early but damn this is sad as I love Forza...

What a complete joke. First, the pathetic excuse that is the VIP and Day One car pack, and now this? I dodged a massive bullet by only getting the Ultimate Edition for $67. The fact that they expected people to pay up to $100 for this truly disgusts me. VIP status used to actually have value back in the 360 Forza games, so what happened?

The sad part is that this is no doubt going to hurt the Horizon series once 4 comes around next year. People are going to think twice before paying extra money for anything with the name Forza on it, me included. Then again, Horizon is going to have competition from NFS Payback and The Crew 2, so hopefully, loyal fans won't get ripped off again. We'll see. In any case, I'm no longer getting anything beyond the standard copy until I see up front that it's worth it from now on. Being able to play the game a few days early and getting the car pass blind isn't enough to spend the extra cash.

To be fair, the FE cars that come with VIP do get permanent credit boosts.

But yeah, noticed this when I tried them out early on. Solid method to dissuade people from getting VIP in the future...

The FE cars aren't exclusive though. Eventually everyone is going to get access to them, so they hold no lasting value for those who payed for VIP. And since FM7 doesn't have the Blueprint feature, you can't even use them whenever you want in career.

Which should alarm T10, as business, yes?
If the only people happy with neutering VIP packages are those who weren't interested in it anyway.
