Fujitsu leaving GRM after the 2013 season.

http://www.v8supercars.com.au/news/fujitsu-and-grm-part-ways?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=V8SC

Philip Perham, Deputy Managing Director of Fujitsu General (Aust) Pty Limited, and Garry Rogers today announced they would not be renewing their business relationship for the 2014 V8 Supercars season.

“We’ve had a great relationship with GRM, what was initially a two year agreement signed in season 2010 was extended to four years which has resulted in a very commercially rewarding and enjoyable partnership, however given our changing commercial focus we’ve had to re-assess all of our sponsorship commitments going forward,” Perham said.

Holden gives pay rise but, axe over jobs

http://www.afr.com/p/australia2-0/holden_gives_pay_rise_but_axe_over_K20F5SY0hfIHPa5jaMGoHP

In a bittersweet twist, Holden’s Adelaide workers will receive a 3 per cent pay rise next week because the federal government is yet to agree whether to save their jobs.Should, however, a deal be reached, and Holden agrees to stay in Australia beyond 2015, the pay rise will be rescinded. As the standoff between the federal government and the iconic car maker continued, the union representing the workers said they would happily forgo their pay rises in return for long-term job security. In August, the 1700 workers at Holden’s manufacturing plant in Adelaide agreed to a wage freeze and other conditions, such as reduced penalty rates on Sundays, should Holden agree to stay beyond 2015, stop making the Commodore and Cruze and develop and manufacture two new cars until 2022.The situation was contingent on the company receiving a suitable subsidy from the federal government.John Camillo of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, said it was expected, at the time that the workers voted to vary their work place agreement, that whoever won the federal election would have reached a deal with Holden by now and the company would have made a commitment to stay.Otherwise, the original collective agreement stays in place and, on November 15, the workers receive a scheduled 3 per cent pay rise.Mr Camillo said should a deal be subsequently reached, “the pay rise stops’’.There is no hope of the government giving Holden an answer by November 15. It has asked the Productivity Commission to examine automotive subsidies and aims to receive an interim report before Christmas and a final report by late March. There is a creeping fear in state and federal politics that Holden has already made up its mind to leave Australia, after making it plain for months that it wanted an answer from the Coalition government by Christmas.

Clipsal 500 to feature one twilight race.
The 2014 season-opening Clipsal 500 will feature a Saturday night twilight race, as part of a wider push to have V8 Supercars racing in primetime television slots.

The Adelaide street circuit event will take advantage of the final weeks of daylight saving hours with the first race of the new season to take place at approximately 5pm, as opposed to the early afternoon traditional start time.

It will be one of a number of Saturday twilight races in 2014, with V8 Supercars set to announce timings of all races early in the New Year in consultation with host broadcaster Seven.

The Clipsal 500, Townsville 500, Gold Coast 600 and Sydney 500 Super Street events are all likely to feature Saturday twilight races in 2014.

Well, I made a last minute decision to go to Soundwave Festival on the same day to see one of my favourite bands, so at least I may be able to get out of there early enough, run to the circuit from the other side of the city and catch the race! We'll see how well this plan goes down, hopefully it does increase the television viewership but I wonder how the other race fans who will, or are intending to, be at the track will take it.

Nissan closing in on major engine upgrade.
Nissan Motorsport is confident that it will have a revised engine package to match its new aero kit in 2014 with a major upgrade now close to sign-off.

In what will mark another significant resource commitment from Nissan, the manufacturer is expected to temporarily halt its VK56 engine casting plant in Tennessee, USA, to produce a limited run of modified cylinder heads for the V8 Supercars team.
The road-car based head has proven the biggest hurdle to the Melbourne-based squad’s engine program this year, with the team reporting that it has now maximised the valve and port sizes possible with the production architecture.

They are the factory team. Im glad Japan stood up.

Sign me up! I saw that and jumped all over it.

The race just got interesting! guess who's NOT on pole.

Indeed.

Great qualifying performance by Frosty, FPR look like they really nailed the setup on that car, reckon he's going to be hard to beat. Disappointing for JC starting back in 15th and no Merc's in the top ten either.

Really good job by Frosty, that was an excellent lap. Really too bad for the Nissans and the GRM cars though, because they were quick all weekend. I was surprised to see them so far down.

Im going to post something I saw at Phillip Island to the GT6 discussion thread!

Go on...

I just saw a GT6 commercial during the broadcast for the first time though.

EDIT: I think I know what you're talking about now. ;)

I've learned to pay no attention to practice because it usually ends up meaning squat.

My eyes got big like saucers. We'll have to see.

Holdsworth said his pace was good but, other runnings grabbed another set of tires. He cooled his down and had another run to nab 12th. Race pace might move him up. Just hope David Wall doesnt cause any dramas.

@CapnJack I just saw that GT6 ad. Looks action packed when they edit it like that.

Wow, glad JC is ok. That was really scary.

That was huge, hopefully Courtney is okay. That was really scary.

Edit: Damn it guys, can't you see Whincup needs to lose! Stop taking each other out!

I'm all for Winterbottom being aggressive, but I fear that will really hurt him.

You know I look at the replay and I see that as a racing incident.

Im fairly disgusted with V8SC today, and only half a race has been done, the cheese burger has mad a complete tool of himself taking out 2 cars in 3 corners, then the premat Courtney crash, Premat dragged Courtney out of the car and Courtney is laying on the ground, and they still waited nearly a full minute before calling a safety car, down right disgusting,

sorry for the rant guys but when I seen Courtney roof folded that way my heart dropped, I haven't seen a car that structurally damaged since Allan Simonsen in Le Mans,

I agree, that's a racing incident in my view as well. However, Van Gisbergen should get a penalty for punting Mostert and Will Davidson in a single lap. Pity about the punctures for Reynolds and McLaughlin that put them a lap down, not much point in going out for part 2 for them.

I'm not a fan of the 60/60 format, I prefer a longer race with a pitstop.

Relieved to see Courtney (gingerly) walk away from that one. Easily one of the scariest incident's I've seen in a long time.

Same. 👍 My only complaint is they didn't do it on lap 28. :dopey: :sly:

Who is? Terrible format.

Yes glad Courtney is well. Gis should be at the back of the grid. Frosty was just racing as he was coming through. Lowndes was fine though, I couldnt see him turn on Frosty deliberately. This would have been better as a longer race but, with these flat tyres, may have saved a couple racers.

When i saw the door on the 22 car, i thought the worst and was so relieved to see him moving when they crossed to the incar cam. Also, good on Alex for helping out.

I cheered for Holdsworth at the restart. Why did I open my mouth? :banghead:

DJR looking speedy. Hope they get by Whincup.

Wooo, Tander. :D

Great run by both DJR Falcon's too, good to see. 👍

Good race. Glad Tander got that. good job by Alex and Coulthard. Good points for Tander and Fabian.

Was really hoping Whincup would have messed that pass up. :grumpy:

At least one Ford on the Podium is good I guess.
