Grid size under threat as entry deadline looms.
The V8 Supercars grid is in danger of dipping below 28 cars next season as Racing Entitlement Contract owners struggle to lock in commercial deals ahead of the December 1 entry deadline.

A combination of the current lack of a lack of dividend payments from V8 Supercars following a poor television deal and a difficult sponsorship market has put the squeeze on those trying to stay afloat.
Dean Fiore and Lucas Dumbrell both confirmed to Speedcafe.com at the weekend that they could hand their RECs in this week if they are unable to lock down deals.

Dean Fiore has raced for LDM while placing his REC at DJR this season

Fiore owns the #12 license currently at Dick Johnson Racing and in turn drives for Dumbrell, who owns the #80 and #88 REC

Not sure if you guys have seen this but I just came across it. On-board view from Todd Kelly during the Premat/Courtney incident.

Edit: Just saw this posted in the WTF thread but mine is better quality. :p

in regards to the video, i always felt cars should come with race type roll cages. i was going to rant but, it is bizarre we dont wear helmets and have 5-point harnesses in todays road cars(unless you can afford a 911 GT3 or something like that).

Terrible last couple of months for Courtney, just has had no luck whatsoever. I am however really looking forward to seeing how Percat does. 👍

Wow, I can officially say that every race series this year has had a massive awful wreck that will make 2013 something to not forget. I don't remember a year where premier racing series have had to have drivers miss races or worse. I'm glad he's okay because that HRT was hit by a damn wrecking ball.

Gotta get Percat ready for next season ;)

His car as taken a beating for sure, what shocked me is the cage didn't just bent but BROKE off right where he sits. Just think if that had got hit a little different, we might not be so lucky. Either welds failed at that joint or they need a slightly different design to that area. Granted the cars are hard enough to get into as anyway, I still can't even try to see how they get out in a hurry without diving head first out.

I don't mind a harness but a helmet isn't that big of a deal. I honestly don't really feel all that safe in a normal seatbelt but it is what it is.

Well if the speculation is true, yeah. Golden opportunity for him to show what he can do without the pressure of being a co-driver.

He would be a nice fresh face in the series. Someone on FB suggested V8s should combine DVS cars for a larger grid in the enduros. id welcome DVS in the maingame for 40 car grids! Talk about stacking during a safety car...

Volvo V8 Supercar to test using Holden Engine

You can do the basic aero testing with any engine in it,” he said.“You’re simply looking at modelling the basic parameters of an S60 (bodyshape) against the basic parameters of the others.“You can do the testing of the chassis and aero with any engine, and then when the engine is ready, off you go with the combined.“For the basic loadings of the chassis you’ve got to get the aerodynamics right, so you’ve got to do that sooner rather than later.”A mid-December maiden test for the Volvo would put its track debut between that seen for the new 2013 players Nissan (which tested for the first time on November 2, 2012) and Mercedes (which first tested on January 16, 2013).Polestar’s managing director Christian Dahl stressed to Speedcafe.com on a recent visit to Australia that a late track debut for the engine wouldn’t be a concern.“Everyone looking from the outside is scared when they see the first round looming, but you do the hard work and it all comes together in the last weeks,” he said.

You know that isn't a terrible idea anyway to see how the aero is in general. I bet the Nissan's would have been better if they had tried that out then switched to theirs.

Thing with that is, unfortunately, NISMO and Mercedes didnt take this category seriously. Its all about exposure and sales. You're exactly right.

Think of where the Nissan's would have been all year had they got the correct aero down instead of redoing it again this year.

Was holding out hope GRM would be unveiling the S60 at Sydney in a couple of weeks, that seems unlikely now. Oh well, as R16 said, fingers crossed there will be a few spy shots from the aero test. 👍

I just wanna see the damn thing already, but just like with F1 and all the WEC/USCR cars I'll have to wait :(

Rather we all do :(

I wouldnt rule out us getting to see it at Sydney. They just have to test it after Sydney. I cant remember if Nissan tested the ar before Sydney last year. The E63 just wasnt ready at thus time last year.

Jonathon Webb could step down from full-time driving next year, with Tekno scaling back to a single-car operation again (if true, I assume it would be for the serial pest). I can't provide a source to go with this, because the computer I'm on really doesn't like the Speedcafe website.

If some of the rumours I have heard are true, then I'm guessing we could see Walkinshaw pick up the Rosenberg REC, problably for Percat. Paul Morris would pull both his RECs from Tekno and LDM, with Dean Fiore moving the Triple F entry from DJR to LDM so that LDM could run two cars. DJR might pick up the Britek entry by way of Wilson Security, who are apparently extremely happy with the team, even if they are losing Mostert. Erebus will want to replace the Rosenberg REC and possibly expand to a fourth car, so they could probably pick up the two RECs Morris would have, because he's going to have trouble keeping them.

Can't remember a time in recent years where there have been so many (speculated) REC movements.

And Percat full time in fourth Walkinshaw Car confirmed.
The 2011 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 winner with Garth Tander will drive a fourth Commodore run under the James Rosenberg-owned Racing Entitlements Contract, which will move from Erebus Motorsport.

The #47 entry currently driven by Tim Slade joins the existing cars in the Walkinshaw Racing stable – the two Holden Racing Team cars of Garth Tander and James Courtney and the Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore that will be driven by recent-signing Slade.
After backing Slade's career in V8s for the past five years, Rosenberg has grasped the chance to support another talented driver's aspirations and another fellow South Australian.

"There's a lot of personal satisfaction in helping young drivers – being part of Tim's career has given me great pleasure and I look forward to more of the same with a talented driver in Nick Percat," says Rosenberg.

"As part of that, I'm extremely happy to partner with such a successful racing organisation as Walkinshaw Racing."

If they dont win the Championship next year, its only because they did it to themselves. When the NISMO V8s come back from Japan and the aero gets sorted, its going to be a tough fight in the top 5. This will be FPR'S best chance for a while.

It's about time Percat got a full-time drive! He certainly deserved it! 👍

Didn't care where or with who, just wanted to see him in the main game. Pleased for the guy, as you said he deserves it. 👍

Also following the news of Rosenberg's #47 REC moving to Walkinshaw in 2014. Erebus confirms their operation will scale down to two cars.
Erebus, which had contemplated a move to four cars as recently as September, remains on the hunt for new naming rights backers following the withdrawal of IRWIN Tools, SP Tools and Heavy Haulage Australia.

The team provided a written statement from Maddison when contacted by Speedcafe.com in the wake of the Walkinshaw announcement.

“We wish James Rosenberg all the best in his new venture and he has been a great partner for Erebus and preceding that SBR,” said Maddison.

“Whilst there are a number of REC options out there, it is Erebus’ intention to compete with two cars in the 2014 V8 Supercar Championship and we look forward to announcing all our plans for the V8, GT3 and V8 Ute programs in the near future.

“Right now our focus is ending the 2013 season on a high at The Sydney NRMA Motoring and Services 500 at Sydney Olympic Park.”

Yep. Engel may be gone for good. Erebus have their up and coming Jack LeBroq doing good things. I really dont see him in the Erebus family. We'll see what happens in the Bathurst 12H, if he slots in Tim Slade's spot next to aholdsworth. But I only see Jack LeBroq with those duties.

Probably the better outcome for Erebus scaling back for the time being. With two experienced drivers, a year of development with the cars and young Le Brocq in the Dunlop series. (assuming they are looking at bringing him into the main game sometime in the future) I can see them having a really good run in 2014.

Maddison said a series of sponsorship arrangements had been secured in recent times but the entire 2014 commercial program was not yet locked down.“Not everything is in place as yet, but it’s been a proud few days for us on the commercial front,” Maddison revealed. “We just want to get ourselves tucked away for the Sydney event and we will be in a position to make further announcements (after that).”Erebus also plans to take on more of its own development work at its Yatala (Queensland) base, with increased resources committed to the continued improvement of the M159 engine locally rather the relying on AMG and its motorsport partner HWA in Germany.“Sending engines backwards and forwards – even just the air freight on its own and being reliant on customs clearance and things like that – is an added burden the program can’t sustain, especially given the way the events are stacked in the first seven rounds of next year.“We need to make sure we are not disadvantaged in any way compared to the other teams.” However, he made it clear as a customers sports team Erebus would never become 100 per cent technically self reliant. “They will always want to be involved and it’s not something we would shun. We just need to work out over the next three or four weeks how that physically will work.”

DJR set to confirm REC purchase.
Dick Johnson Racing is poised to confirm that it has solidified plans to remain a two-car team next season.

Speedcafe.com has learned that long-time investor in the legendary squad, Steve Braeback, has purchased the Racing Entitlements Contract previously owned by Paul Morris.
Final paperwork for the V8 Supercars Board to approve the Crimsafe boss as the REC owner is expected to be completed this morning (Tuesday).

A DJR spokesman remained tight-lipped when approached by Speedcafe.com on Monday, but confirmed that an announcement about the team’s future is imminent.
