Racing future planned for new Commodore.
Holden has signalled its intention to race its first fully-imported Commodore in the V8 Supercars Championship following the end of local production.

The car company has today confirmed that its new mid-sized sedan, said to be based on the next-generation Opel Insignia, will continue the Commodore nameplate in the Australian market.
V8 Supercars’ next-generation rules, set to be introduced in 2017, will allow manufacturers to field two-door vehicles, fuelling suggestions that Holden could race a V8-powered coupe.

Holden Motorsport has however today stressed its desire to race the new Commodore, should it recommit to the sport beyond its current contracts with the Holden Racing Team and Red Bull Racing Australia.

The sponsorship deals with the two teams, which were signed last year, are understood to cover the 2015 and 2016 seasons, leading up to the Holden factory shutdown the following year.
“Racing is an integral part of Holden’s DNA and Commodore is the most successful nameplate in Australian Touring Car and V8 Supercar history and we are looking forward to winning races and championships with Commodores in the future,” said McNamara.

“We have every intention of racing Commodore for many years to come, but obviously we need to keep working with the regulators and ensure the specific program is the right one.”

What if BMW raced an i8? *wakes self up*

I guess the Insignia falls in with the new engine regulations. Should be interesting with these more aerodynamic cars. They'll have to use windtunnels from now(I hope).

An Audi RS6 V8TT sounds nice. Plus, a JPS styled M4 and that Hyundai Genesis would look great on the grid.

Holden could have raced the Malibu, Hyundai can definitely use the new Genesis, Audi could use an A5, Volvo could drop the V8 in favour of a Turbo-Charged V6, Nissan is definitely interested in using a GT-R, BMW can indeed use the M4, Toyota could use a Camry, Lexus will probably use the RC-F and if Chevrolet started selling cars here in Australia, they could use the Camaro or even the Corvette.

And as for the BMW i8, well you can run hybrids but it's very unlikely anyone would. The new regs do open up the series to a lot of new brands. :)

But we know if Toyota is going to put a GT style race effort into a place it will be under the banner of Lexus only. Though the Camary runs there now, I don't recall it having much support from Toyota if any.

True, I'm not to sure about if the Camry receives any support from Toyota in the NZ SuperTourers but if it does it could help it's cause for an unlikely entry in the series post-2017.

Remember, once Ford and Holden stop manufacturing, Toyota will to in 2017. That being said, theyd probably let Lexus do its thing here and allow the Camry to keep racing in EnZed. Id like to see the Camry and RC-F on the grid, but we know seeing a hybrid Camry beating a V8 Coupe wont look right.

I am excited in anticipation for the new regs. And I think the 12H and Australian GT is going to help the cause. If we all chant and light incense, maybe we will see Cadillac imports on the street and racing in the near future.

Looks like Bright's car is going to be mostly red this year.

Could this race suit give us a cue on what the Volvo will look like?

Blue or bust. No green, no white, no black please Garry.

The 2014 livery suited the Volvo perfectly, it would be a shame if it's no longer :(

Well you can thank this guy for that.

John Bowe even changed his Mustang from black and yellow to white for WS.

Feared this would happen, it will probably look okay but no blue. 👎

Edit: FPR teaser.

Well this is already far Surpiror, the benefits of Pay TV are Clear.

I feel this will be the best season yet. Qualifying will great to watch with the new driver switches. Who adjusts to new equipment. Plus, that FG X and Altima. Can't wait to see what liveries PENSKE and NISSAN come up with.

Yeah, I'm particularly interested in seeing what Caruso and Moffat's entries look like and what sponsor they have.

They posted a shop photo not long ago. Jack Daniels cars roof(s) were obviously black, and the other two cars have white roofs. If that means anything...

Hope Nissan go with a Black and Red livery similar to the JRM Nissans when Jann was in British GT.

Unfortunately they are only using that livery for the test weekend.

Ah, I heard something about them potentially using a test livery for the test day. @05XR8 hit the nail on the head, it looks like something designed for a video game. I love it.

That looks awesome. During the year they will also have one off liveries to coincide with the teams 25th anniversary

that car looks awesome!
