As I said in the other thread, Golf/Jetta TDi wagon.
50+ mpg, 0-60 in 8.6 seconds, great shifting with the DSG, fun to drive, and super practical.
You can fit 4 adults comfortably (5 if one wants to ride bitch seat), fit any and all crap you need in the back, fold down the seats if you need more room, drive it angry and still get good mileage, and get impeccable mileage driving light footed.
I think one of the 911 variants will win, but it's a tad unfortunate. I get that the 911 is a fantastic driving machine, but the Golf Wagon is a real car, it's one you can take the family in, take all your crap in, and still have fun doing it. I think perhaps we need another competition to be more centred around "real" cars, because this is about what's the best car, not what's the best supercar. And I don't think a $200,000+ Porsche is the best car Germany has to offer. Best supercar? Sure. But best car? I'd have to disagree.
I will tip my hat to the M3. It also combines (relatively) low cost, good practicality (sedan), and obviously being fun to drive. It's probably what would get my second vote.
