Good point, but would you choose the rover k series or the Honda k- series though?

It's all about the budget.

The Rover 1.6 Ks models run about 160hp at best. Still, that's a lot of power for a 1000lb car. By the time you reach the entry level Honda 2.0 you've added 60hp and about £6,000. Go Supercharged and you're 80hp up on that, for another £6,000. And then there's the V8 which is 200hp more for £120,000 more

If I was entering the world of Atom it would be a straight fight between the Rover K and the 220 - my brother started at the 245 Mk2 and progressed to a 300hp Mk3 (and nearly stacked that on the way home, having already owned an Atom for 4 years!)

The Elise, because I'm neither blind nor Alan Sugar, which you'd have to be to vote the Mulsanne or the Rolls.

The XF is a great car though, and had I thought about nominating the XJ then I would have gone for that instead.

Are there any all British marquees left in the motor industry?

Plenty, but they're all at garden parties.

Oh, you meant marques ;)

A few. Well, a fair few actually, just not many competing on a global scale.

I'd head for the NA K20A given the chance. But I'm a Honda nerd
Tuning a K20 cost alot though!

C'mon.. the Phantom is quite literally the Rolls-Royce of cars... !!! If the best our nation can acheive is a poor man's aston martin, with a body kit, from india.. then we must be doing something wrong!

Because this is the internet, the winner of this poll is going to be the wrong car.

The best car is actually the only car in the poll, the Jaguar XF. The rest of the nominations are either trucks, yachts, or cruise missiles.

I'd have thought have nominating the Jaguar XJ, but yeah. I miss the old one. The new one is absolutely gorgeous, inside and out. But, it just doesn't seem quite as bad-ass as its predecessor.

I picked the XF Diesel because just the idea of making a road trip potentially on one tank of fuel is very intriguing and having to fill up at a truck stop is even MORE AWESOME.:sly: Randy

3.0 V8 Atom? The one with the US-made engine derived from Siamesed Japanese motorbike mills? :D

So what if Indians own Jaguar? India is still a colony of the empire, isn't it? :D

You know... when I first saw pictures, I thought it was a horrendously bloated abomination. Then I saw it in person and I thought that it merely looked like a fat cat with the rear pillars off an old Citroen.

It's the rear pillars that kill it. They look awful on any color of XJ but black. Get inside the car, though, and all is forgiven. Absolutely, positively, incredibly posh. Nobody ain't got nuthin' on this car at this price. And the V8 is lovely.

But it's still a boat. A boat that handles well and can plaster your champagne-soaked rear passengers to the windows (they didn't complain all that much), but still a boat.

Out of that list it would have to be the Phantom... although German owned (and containing quite a few German parts), it's British designed & built, and is one of the few truly class leading cars being made in what left of our car building industry.

XF, but with the Supercharged petrol V8. Don't care how un-British it actually is, it's an awesome car and has a British badge on it.

Oh and Atom, why would you spend that much for a V8? You could get some very skilled monkeys to do that with an aloominum V8 for an nth of the price.

It took them three years to make it so that you wouldn't instantly die when you got into it.

Plus, that's why I nominated the 300 - whose engine is built in Swindon.

Oi... So it was that V8...

The V8, which I didn't nominate 'cos it's stupidly expensive, is an engine of Ariel's own design built for them by Hartley - rather than the Hartley-designed 2.8 H1V8.

Elise: One of the best sports cars ever made. Nothing has changed, even if it is 15 years old.

Atom: "Two spikes would be an extravagance"

Rolls: "You're fired"

Bentley: "ROOOOOONEY. ROOOOOOONEY. ROOOOOOONEY"

XKR-S: "Love those Nike trainers, granddad"

etc...
