Washing your car....

Exactly. It says right in the book that you will pick up a few mph top speed in a clean car. I always wash mine after a series race, though not after every individual race.

I occassionally wash the car before a race, but never after - why?
I read somewhere exactly what Majarvis wrote, that it very slightly helps the aerodynamics. If you´ve got lumps of dirt stuck to the paintwork instead of a smooth shiny waxed surface, it must produce some drag. So maybe it is only on the Test Course with a really really fast car with lots of bodywork that you´ll notice the difference. Someone also said once before that you don´t see a difference in the race, but the car is more shiny in a replay.
Another challenge Famine - care to join me on this one?
* Test Course - Like the Wind (can start but don´t finish - obviously)
* Choose your car - preferably a very fast one with lots of bodywork - and unwashed.
* Let us know your car and top speeds without a wash and top speeds Immediately after only a wash. Perhaps if you oil change before each attempt - what say you?

I think the game makes the car look cleaner (more shiny) just after it stops spinning, and until you exit the car wash, as it should; after you spend credits on it you expect to see some difference. Other than that there is none.

I even heard somebody insist that it made a performance difference insofar as the dirt buildup would increase wind resistance over the body panels and slow you down.

Wow, that means my F1 must be going really slow...:irked:

i wash my car quite often... cos' i like it to look fresh and clean...
btw, have you heard about that rumour that when you wash your car alot the paint starts to fade little bit....??
is that true...??

this smilie is wicked!!! --->

I don't think paint fades in GT3... It better not!

Has anyone with a Sharkport done the Super Shine modification and noted if it increased top speed?

It would be good if in GT4 they have courses where you go through puddles (large ones) and it actually shows your car covered in mud...:trouble:

I'll take the challenge, but I'll do it in Run & Setting. I'll change the oil in my Zonda C12S and see how fast it will go w/o a wash. Then I will change the oil again and this time wash it and see how much faster it will go.

Actually, a more scientific approach would be to reload the same saved game before each attempt, once with a wash, and once without...

I used my Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 w/ 1085hp, instead of my Zonda because the 3000GT was already really dirty from rally racing. I used the same settings for both runs except for moving the gear ratios to get the most speed possible. After a wash I found that the top speed did increase but not very much, only about 2 mph, however, the car kept more speed through the corners and it made a lap that was over a second faster at the Test Course.

i rarely wash my cars, but then,
its would be so much work to wash every car after a couple of 100kms. somethimes i do it with cars I really like and also because most of my cars are dark coloured.

I should go to the car wash with my RGT...I don't think I've washed it...ever!
