what the heck happens there? I can see that there's a storm, but..:scared: and that huge lid wrecked that car when the water blew it off.:nervous:

The storm probably caused a localised flash flood somewhere nearby, which overloaded the drainage system. There must have been some sort of bottle neck downstream of this manhole cover, meaning the water got backed up until the pressure blew out the manhole cover. The initial release would have cleared the back up and allowed normal flow to resume for a couple of minutes, until the system was overloaded again and caused the second blowout (about 3 mins later)... perhaps...

/\/\ That sounds about right. Happens on a street where my work use to be which is at the top of a hill. When it rains really bad, and the bottom end backs up it pops out the sewer hole at the top of the hill and floods the street. Nothing like that though, which took me by complete surprise. Wow.

Wow that would scare the bejesus out of me. It's sucks for that guy in the truck (or whatever was stopped in the middle of the road).

The only other plausible explanation I can think of right now is that this happened at the first commercial break during the Super Bowl, and thousands of local residents flushed their toilets at exactly the same moment. The second wave 3 minutes later could have been caused by their buddies who were over to watch the game with them all going to the toilet simulatenously too... although this is a long shot...

LOL:tup: 👍

Looks like the backpressure from the storm drain blew off a rather large manhole cover. Quite spectacular I might add. Anyone know where this happend?

Well if what Touring Mars said is true then that might not have been a manhole cover! :yuck:
