Which GT3 cars are the best on fuel? Actually, what determines which cars are best on fuel? I might as well try to learn something while I'm at it

The BMW M6 is the go to car for Tidgney when it comes to tyre wear. If its good enough for him, it's good enough for me.
Short shift when the RPM line reaches +/= the suggested gear. 2 stopper, started on Mediums. Eye on the weather radar and go to IM or Wet based on the coming conditions
 
As usually I didn't take those challenges all too serious and was trying to have some fun.

For the Sunday Cup I used the R5 Turbo. I love how smooth this engine is🙂

For the 4WD race I used my fully upgraded Alphard because why not?

At the RBR I drove my (also fully upgraded) Evo III. I love the sound of this car🙂

I just finished the 60 minutes of Spa. Hadn't done this one before. I used the Mazda LM55 VGT that we got for watching the Finals.
I even found a livery I really like:

The car has to be heavily detuned to reach the OP limit for this race so I guess it's no surprise that it's not incredibly quick. But it drives very well and the downforce still gives you an advantage over the Gr.3 cars.
I started on RHs and switched to IMs when the rain came, which was at about 15-20 minutes. As usual AI wasn't aware of the weather and got caught by the rain which gave me a huge lead, and so I stayed on the IMs. Which was a good decision because the rain came back at around 40-45 minutes into the race. Easy win.

Tire wear is pretty good on this car. The IMs were about 50% at the end although the loss of grip was already clearly evident. Fuel economy is very good! I did the whole race on FM6 without refueling and had 25% left at the end!

BTW: Cockpit view is pretty bad with this car. At night with rain I had problems to see where I was going at La Source. I even hit the wall there once, so I switched to bumper cam. Much better!

I never run this at Spa but i was sure that it will be great from my la Sarthe experience, especially on fuel consumption and tyre wear ( high downforce and low hp ) .
From what you wrote might be possible a half race distance at FM2-3 on AT gears.
As for intermediate tyres at Spa,if you're not using a tyre killer car , there's no reason to change them cause rain might come back few laps before the end.

Yep, full race without refueling and 25% fuel left at the end.
I guess you could do the whole race on FM5 or even FM4.
And A/T shouldn't be much different, I didn't do any fuel management and I shifted mostly at or close to the rev limit.


But I'm a bit confused now: You talk about "your experience at La Sarthe" with this car? I had a hard time to bring it below 800PP so I can't imagine you can get below 700. Do you mean the Gr.1 version maybe? The one I used is the "regular" version.

For the 1 hour spa race is there a preferred GT3 car? I don't have to win the race because I have a lot of money and don't buy a ton of cars so I'd like to see if I can compete in a GT3 car.

I think someone mentioned GT3 earlier but I can't remember if they mentioned their car.

Did win that race with the Alfa 4C(equipped with the med-range turbo), was lucky with my tire decisions (stayed on RM after the first pit stop, rain wasn't to hard and stopped again after 3 laps), then got some heavy rain just right before my final fuel stop and switched to IMs and since the roads stayed wet for the rest of the race(ok, last 2 laps were almost dry again...), I needed no extra stop to change tires...
 
Woohoo! Got to Collector level 33 in my other account by golding the first sets of Missions (only Human Comedy left to do) and golding my licenses through International A. I did buy a NSX, but that completed an extra menu book which gave me a Gr.B NSX, so more collectors points for that.

I’m off to run the NeoClassic race at Redbull Ring. Looks like I will have time to win this and the 1hour race at Spa and claim the big 1M credit prize for the week.

Edit: Ran the Neo Classic and Spa races. Both had massive downpours. Neo was run in the GT500 Supra. Heavy rain from the middle of lap three to the end of the race. I won with a 39 second lead. Spa was also a massive downpour in the Corvette Gr.3. Probably should have put on wets but ran IM for the middle 20 minutes, then back to slicks for a very slippery final 20 minutes. Won the race with a 1:16 gap to second place.

My pit strategy was perfection for both races. CRB at Spa and the million credit ticket. My second account is doing great.

I love the Corvette. It's one of my favorite cars but I'm surprised you picked it for Spa because it's a little bit of a heavier car and it's not that great on fuel. Much respect for using that beast and winning with it.

What is the rationale for people creating a second account? Is it strictly for online racing or other reasons?

Lap times was rubbish, tyres ended having the 2/5 in front and 3/5 at the rear.
Was a 25 laps race only with the timer completed during the end of the lap.
Still i lap everyone 4 times till 5th place .
Of course was on easy level as o wasn't seeking for competition, just a relaxed run to keep contact with the track for the running TT.

ah ah......and I've had three accounts since GT5..... 😅

as I don't play online or only very little, (I hate being run off the track by a driver who finds it very amusing..😡😡🤬.) when you've finished all the solo races (all in races perfect for toughening up the challenge 😇) the "permits" and "missions", the "circuit experience" you go round in circles a bit.....

you do "Le Mans" and "Sardegna" to collect credits and buy cars, but it's tiresome.....

so I start again from scratch on a 2nd account, trying to improve the times of the 1st and ditto for the 3rd account.....
it goes pretty fast....so you spend time on the TTs and from time to time PD has the good idea of adding a few races, so 3 times more for me ....

and they must have known I was finished, so they invented the "Weekly".... that's great......😂😂

in short, I've got plenty to occupy my retirement....😎😎....and I just love riding.....quickly or slowly, depending on the evening, but riding.......

No i didn't , definitely needed fuel with my settings.
Wasn't able to do the race without refueling but that wasn't a problem since i had to pit one time for tyres.
And if i was more careful and considerate perhaps i could give all field 4 laps , of course due to weather changeability and not for my skills.

What settings you use for no refueling ?
I would like to see them .

I can post at evening but it's very basic. Power restrictor all the way down to 70%, same for ECU. Aero to the minimum, 200 kg ballast at -1.

My guess is that the regular version just has a larger fuel tank then the Gr.1 version. Maybe the capacity of the fuel tank is limited for Gr.1 cars.

The weekly challenge rewards this week were fantastic. Hopefully more of this going forward. What's interesting is that getting the clean racing bonus on Spa is much easier than shorter races. I'm guessing they're more lenient since it's a much longer race and concentration lapses in theory are going to be more common? Especially with bad weather and night driving included.

The weight is definitely a problem. It makes braking much longer than the other Gr.3 cars and the handling is rather slow. I add the high RPM supercharger and adjust the fuel to FM4. The car sips fuel like this and still out accelerates the rest of the field. Ran RS tires until all 4 were solid red, then did one more lap on those completely burnt out tires because the rain was coming in a bit too slow. Switched to IM tires and filled up the tank and got back out there right as the rain started to come down. Ran the IM tires and had traction control up at 4 or 5 because the rain meter was well into the heavy wet territory. Ran those until they were solid red (much slipperier than the RS at full red) and swapped to RM (added fuel) for the remainder of the race.

I created a second account to test if the "economy" of the game was truly a problem. There was a thread where people were bitching about it (well, there's lots of threads about this...) and I wanted to try it again:

… I’m not saying I’m expecting for this to happen, it’s purely hypothetical. But if the devs were to suddenly solve the grinding issues; let’s say by giving virtually every track in the game a 500k to 1m credit race, and maybe a 2m+ event on Nurburgring (10 laps or something) Would it make...

I used the Corvette for Spa because it was the only Gr.3 car I had won in the game. Could have used a Gr.1 car that I won, but the Corvette is a car everyone can win by golding the Rolling Stone Missions.
 
Finished the challenges yesterday with these cars.

In the Neo-Classical Race where I used the F1 GTR, it actually rained twice, which just befuddled the AI and made winning even easier.

At Spa with the Gr.3 Corvette, spotty rain appeared starting on lap 6, but it was just enough to warrant intermediates. It didn't rain again on the track itself after that, although a lot of rain did appear on the radar later that completely missed. I had to do an extra pit stop after forgetting to refuel, but I fortunately was able to still win by 5 seconds.

Pleased to get the win at Spa tonight as it completes my WTC 800 checklist after all this time. I had plenty of fun at the remaining races...

The Spa race is better if you stick to a Gr. 3 car and tune it to 800pp. Sure you can smoke everyone with a detuned Gr. 1 or certain road cars, but there's no challenge.
The biggest things here are to carry speed through Eau de Rouge/ Radillion and then through Blanchimont. A penalty won't kill your speed in Blanchimont but they don't help.
On Hard difficulty a mistake on fuel or tire selection will end your shot at first place. You can switch to wet tires a lap early, though, and back to dry when there's a wide enough dry section on the track (this is why license test S-10 Normal exists). AI always gets caught in the first rain storm, then often pits every 3 laps for IM's once the rain stops.
If you're on soft tires or either rain compound, max the TCS, this will help prolong the life of the rear tires. Keep in mind that tire wear stops in the rain, this is the time to balance your brakes if you like and balance the center differential in a 4WD car.
If you chose a car with no headlights, on the final chicane, enter with the right hander and follow the curb, this will take you into the pit without a penalty. Or you can put just before dark, take on IM tires and set the fuel map to 6, then drive straight through the night.
The 787B can pull a no stopper on RH and FM6, depends on how confident you are in the rain.
Last bit of advice: if fitting RH tires allows you a bit more power due to the PP limit, do it. Everyone will be running the same tires when it rains but you'll have the option of increased horsepower if you want it. If you don't need it, set FM6 and your next pit stop will be a little shorter.
This week I used the 1999 GT-R 500 in Loctite - Zexel livery from Gran Turismo 3. In the dry I ran TCS2, RS, FM1, and all assists except auto drive. Brake balance varied. In the rain I ran TCS5, W, FM6, and BB 0. I ran all other assists except auto drive. My final race was a two stop race. I won by 45 seconds on max difficulty but missed a yellow flag, so no CRB.

I don't remember....I wasn't pushing it...I re-ran the race twice last night, averaging 1:27 on IM tires. Last night's races were both with drizzle and minimal water on the track. The difference was the weather in the race I first mentioned. It started dry then rain began late into the first lap. I pitted for IM tires at the end of lap 1, while the AI stayed out. They are horribly slow in the rain until they change tires, and I think some pitted 3 times.

Question: who managed to won the Neo Classical event on Hard with no rain? Is this even possible?

I had 3 totally dry races and in all of them the Jaguar didn't pit. I've seen the Nissan pitting at lap 7 and the Porsche/Sauber at lap 9, but without rain, the Jaguar can do the whole race without stopping.

So that's the question: it's possible to beat that AI without rain?

Maybe if I use the cars as walls on turn 2 and stop caring about CRB...
