Another user suggested this idea and he gave me the ok to run it, since he hasn't the time to do it.

I would keep this in the same place it was started but Kent mentioned it should be here, so here it is. Hopefully this will get off to a good start.

Basically, this series will entail taking a pre-chosen car and doing whatever you can to get the very best E.T. out of it. All runs will be completed at Las Vegas dragstrip. Verification is not mandatory, although if someone asks for it I hope you will be prepared to prove it.

Clean OLR standards apply, although I fail to see how you could cut a corner :lol:
No cheating of any kind.

For our inaugural week we will be running the Saleen S7. DO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO IT. You may add NOS, you may adjust anything you like.

Posting of setups and your time is purely voluntary but is highly encouraged, because it isn't as fun in my opinion if you have no clue where you stand. Please PM me your final time. One and only one time is allowed to be sent to me. I am not a moderator so I can only hold 50 messages to the best of my knowledge. If you win, you will be required to post your entire setup so that others can learn from you.

There is no 'Save Best Run' option so once you do a good time, save it right away if you intend to show us your run.

Today is Thursday, June 30th, and this will end midnight July 7th.

I'm in.

Along with posting settings I'd be interested in any information on driving technique.... yeah yeah.... i can hear it now... WHAT DRIVING SKILL IS REQUIRED?!?!

For example, starting in 2nd or 3rd gear, shifting at different points other than redline, etc...

I really don't believe the steering will ever be touched, but ya never know what will be found in GT4.
 
Dangit... Back to getting a million credits again...

if you use ballast at all, remember, this is a mid engine car, so the weight is in the back already, so keep ballast weight low.

i noticed when buying parts that i could either choose a supercharger or... NA tune.. i chose the supercharger for the moment, though the NA puts out more horsepower, what do you fellas think

This is a pure guess, but I think the supercharger is probably your best bet.

Hey Deuce,

Great time. I am unable to run under 8.9s with a fully loaded Saleen and am thinking I have the Nitrous setting confused or something.

Any help with settings?

I ran sub 9.5s without Nitrous and only transmission adjustments from what I ran with the nitrous.

Also...
I found that starting in 2nd gear, shifting at nearly the rev limit through 3rd and into 4th, then letting the car stay in 4th through the finish line worked best for me.

Tranny settings without nitrous:
1 - 2.476
2 - 1.709
3 - 1.266
4 - 0.982
5 - 0.798
6 - 0.678
Final - 4.000
Auto - 1

Any posting on settings and techniques would be great.

So far my times are:
With Nitrous - 8.997
No Nitrous - 9.495

Dang... I got sub 9s in my first run... but I'm nowhere close to 8.6s. Mwahaha you all may be able to beat me in a drag, but mine will run 8.9xx and still go over 200 mph >_< stupid Full Custom tranny slowing me down.
 
O.K. I got it down to 08.603 and I think that with the current setting a 08.59X is a matter of time. (speed at Finish line: ~177mph)

I’m not sure but there might be up to 0.1 sec’ to shave with a better transmission setting. 💡

I have no Idea what to do with NOS.
All I do is max it out (I think value of 50) and than leave it on from pre-start to finish. 👍

Regarding my time:
I have no problem to post a “step by step how to” tune the car and run it so everyone could run an 8.6XX.
Drag racing (in the game anyway) doesn’t require a lot of driving skills, it’s all about the setting and the right launch sequence.

The only down side of that is that the challenge will be over! With the entire field running 0.050 of each other. If it’s O.K. with kennythebomb I will go ahead and post it.


As of now I will say only this:

I use only 3 gears in the run.
ASM 0/0 : TCS 2
NA stage 3 and not supercharger.
R5 tires of course, and
I drive the Yellow S7. 👍

Like you say, it does tend to narrow the field....but there is a part of driver skill still needed, different techniques in launching, etc.

I will require that a setup be posted after you win each week so we all can learn, I obviously won't require it during the week, but everyone is encouraged to post what they think works best :)
 
Regarding 'proof' :

The scoreboard is usually pretty inaccurate so I, myself, would not count it as proof. Hell, I've seen pics where the scoreboard said ".6" or something ludicrous like that. I wouldn't throw out an entry though because all they can supply is a pic. I would consider proof as a replay, but I'm not gonna force you guys to buy maxdrives...

So if you have a maxdrive and you win, great....if you don't, no big deal :)
 
Here is the settings (thanks GTVault for the tablet):

I know it looks strange but the idea is to put as much pressure (weight) on the rear tires. (rear wheels drive)



Launch the car @ 4th gear, full throttle and full nitrous.
Up-shift before hitting the limiter (I’m not sure you need to go all the way up) about 7500rpm if I’m not wrong.

I only spent about 10min on that challenge including buying and equipping the car.

If I’ll ever get home I might see if I can work my magic on the tranny and maybe cut a full 0.1 sec’ and put it under 8.5.

I tried to improve on the transmission but nothing I did was any better, so your tranny is probably pretty good already :) I'd like to see if you (or anybody else) can get into the 8.4s though.

I can get it faster if I could get a good tranny setup with my setup, I'll try your setup with it deuce. *sigh*Oh well, you guys are only .7 seconds ahead and I'm still using the stock tranny :sly: bet my car will beat ya in the 1000m and max speed!!!!

EDIT: Used your tranny setup duece, new time is 8.764. Will work some more. I don't expect much improvement. :grumpy:
