Weird bug

I heard some big flying thing buzzing at my TV last night. I couldn't see it so I went to bed. Today one of my cats was eyeballing something in the living room. Anyone know what this is?

Daddy long legs (as reffered to in the UK) aka the crane fly?

That would be a Crane fly, otherwise known as the Mosquito hawk. It eats Mosquitos, hence the name. They are good bugs so don't kill them. They are all over here in NY, and they are pretty big too.

We've got tons of those crane's here, especially since we're living near the woods. I've spotted 20 of them sitting on a window (quite a big window though) at once, I really have no idea why, but they're very annoying once they get inside, because they can't figure out how to / don't want to get out again.

Though, that one looks slightly different, compared to the ones here, and the one I could find on Wikipedia. - Could it be a mutated fly ?

I dont get why when I see a huge one of these, i'm not scared at all. However, should I see a spider more than 2 cm wide, I will brick it. The only difference is the number of legs.

The first pix I shot, I thought it was a Daddy Long Legs wrapping a wasp or some other stinging thing that I'm allergic to, thus terrified of.

We've named it Henry.

Reminds me of the tiny spiders I get in my bathroom window pane. They are harmless and I usually let them stay there the entire summer. Although I assume if I tap the screen window and watch them fall to the bottom its considered animal abuse correct?

That's a US Daddy Long Legs Spider.

Not a UK Daddy Long Legs, which is not a spider and can be seen pictured in post 1.

Oh I have about 3 of those things in my room at the moment. They seem to like the warm evenings we are having over here at the moment and as I leave my window open they just fly in. As far as I'm aware, they don't bite so I just leave them alone.

They're arguably the least graceful animals to have walked (in this case flown) the Earth, can't even fly in a straight line.

I've never really seen one fly. They sort of just slide around along the wall crashing into door frames and other obstacles found on a wall, and then it eventually glides uncontrollably downwards towards a different wall and crash lands and stays still for the next few days on the wall.
