A slight editorial about this thread.
It's a little sad that there aren't many newer cars that get people excited. Let's face it, everything is an SUV/Crossover now and all of them are boring. It's a side effect of there being less disposable income among the middle class. (Seemingly) Gone are the days when you had your weekend toy. I think that pushed so much of the motorcycle industry recently because a new motorcycle was so much more affordable than a car. Now, even that is suffering.
The fun is going away. The US is flooded with flock cameras, which wouldn't be so bad if there were more tracks to visit. Tracks are going away because of noise complaints and suburban sprawl, not like your insurance would let you go to a track anyway. So, if you did have access, the best bet was to trailer and a track car (or track bike), but then you need the trailer, and the truck, and a fortune in gasoline if that truck was your daily commuter as well.
So, here we are in 2026 hoping for cars from the 60's and 70's. The Porsche 936/77 is from nearly 50 years ago.

This game debuted in 1997. 1947 would have been 50 years earlier. We weren't hoping for cars from post war era because cars from the 1990's weren't interesting.
I am in in agreement with the reasoning! I love driving the Ferrari 512BB with all the race mods. It slides, and bucks, and it takes finesse. It isn't all point and shoot like some of the newer cars.
They added the RAV4 which is one of the most popular cars on the market today. Is anyone excited?
I think that it says something about the state of car culture when a virtual experience is at the heart of it, because new "car culture" vehicles are being built for the ultra wealthy, to sit in some climate controlled garage, simply for bragging rights, not for the love of the cars. 😒
