A RUF is a RUF and a RUF is based on a Porsche. But a RUF is NOT a Porsche and a Porsche is NOT a RUF. Also RUF is not just a Porsche tuner, though they do make parts for your Porsche so that you can performance tune it.

RUFs are based on Porsches, 911s and more recently boxsters - they are even starting to do things with the Cayenne - but they are not Porsches. You can bring your nice new Porsche to RUF and they can convert it to a RUF. At the same time you can go directly to RUF and have a RUF built for you.

People who buy RUFs are hardcore Porsche fanatics who want the quintessential Porsche experience with their car. So you could say RUF "refines" the already stunning Porsche experience. Refinement is what RUF uses alot to describe what they do.

RUF engineers their own parts and technology and builds each car. A RUF will have some stock Porsche parts on it, but not many. RUF prides itself on it's engine and chassis work creating vehicles that Porsche wish they could build. Porsche are a much larger company who must build models to appeal to a wide range of customers while RUF is a small company who can cater to a Porsche driver's "finer" tastes, most of the time on a one to one basis with said customer.

If you have ever actually seen a RUF in person you would know immediately it is definately not a Porsche. The RUF is somehow more refined, more elegant and more pure. If you have ever been lucky enough to drive a RUF you would also know, again the experience is more purely Porsche in everyway.

RUF is also developing their own car, not based on anything Porsche builds. Though it has been sometime since I have read anything about this.

Did I said that???RUF's are made of Porsche chassis, the rest(interiour, engine) is all made by RUF.

No. The Ruf RGT's chassis components are predominantly Ruf-engineered.

A Ruf is a Ruf. If you had one and looked at the vehicle registration document, it'd say "Ruf" on there. It wouldn't say "Porsche" ANYWHERE on it.

And it's "Ruf", not "RUF" - named after Alois Ruf, whose son (Alois) now owns the company.

So no, I don't know you're right. Because you aren't.

Not really...it depends on the Ruf (happy Famine). Some are built on Porsche chassis (heavily modified) and others are not. It all depends on the model, customer and budget

The thing that seperates Ruf from the crowd is it's engineering and development. They go well beyond just "tweaking" Porsches. A solid 80% of their work (and name) is from the ground up engineering.

Pink im sorry but you have got to do a little more research before trying to argue. RUF is NOT a porsche and a good example of what RUF is about is the RUF 3600S (and 3400S) Both of these cars are what Porsche MIGHT have made if they weren't so afraid of having their beloved 911 overshadowed. The RUF 3600S and 3400S look similar to Boxsters but in fact have 911-based flat-6 engines stuffed in them as well as RUF suspension, transmission, brakes, etc... everything to make these RUF 3600S and 3400S go faster and be much much meaner then the average Boxster.

If things are still a bit unclear about what kind of relationship RUF is to Porsche, think of the relationship between Shelby and Ford. Shelby made GT350s and GT500s that were based off of the Mustang but no car loving enthusiast would look at a Shelby GT500 and go "oh that's just a modded Mustang."

Famine I don't see the point in you trying to further prove your point. I know that you are toatally correct. But there are some......... Well........ Doorknobs here.

RUF is a separate entity. Porsche just supplies them with certain parts. Take for example Sauber Petronas and Ferrari. Two profesional F1 teams. Ferrari uses all of the new gadgets and technically supply Sauber Petronas with the last seasons gadgets. Like engines. In this case Porsche is the Supperior company. RUF is the company that takes possesion of the "already used" parts.

Holden, Vauxhaul and Chevrolet are one company. Porsche and RUF are not.

Hamman specialises in performance for Ferrari's and various other supercar companies. RUF does not.

I'm not sure if that link is the official RUF site. I didn't click on it, but I know that there is one. You can find out what you want from it. I've been to it.

On that solid note. I'd like to show you a master piece, gone terribly wrong. A minutes silence..... Please.

Not that the 911 sounds bad, it's just the RGT sounds more like a real 911 than the 911 does. It's not quite exact, but closer.

And my RGT is still unmodified, I made sure of that before I ran the test, so there weren't any turbos or anything helping it along. Besides, it sounds better unmodified.. Fiddling around with the GT40, I realized that installing the racing transmission adds a loud "whine" to the engine, covering up what's otherwise a very nice-sounding car. I hope they get that sorted in GT4. It's just starting to bug me when I download video of a car that's in the game, but it sounds nothing like what I'm used to hearing from GT3.

NOT TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT BUT,IF YOU EVER HEARD A NON-ELECTRONIC RACING TRANS (PARTICULARLY FROM THAT ERA), YOU WOULD RECOGNIZE THAT "WHINE" AS BEING THE MESH OF STRAIGHT CUT GEARS. (AS OPPOSED TO THE TAPER CUT ON WHAT YOU WOULD FIND ON A STREET CAR)

I've found that out since asking about that noise, yes. I know surprisingly little about racing, and even less about the specifics of various racing components in cars, so this forum was actually the first place I ever heard of straight-cut gears in a racing tranny. :)

On the plus side, I find that noise much more tolerable now that I know what it is. But there are some cars (the RGT, GT40, etc) that I always drive "bare" of any modifications, to get more enjoyment out of the excellent sound of their engines. :)
