This one did the rounds of my local pub music trivia quizzes about ten years ago when it turned up on a compilation called Sampled which featured records which were used on popular hits of the time and because the session players Chas 'n' Dave were well known in the UK.

Samuel Bèlay - Aynotchesh Yerèfu ("Give Your Eyes A Rest").

I first heard this Amharic funk number on the Éthiopiques Vol. 8: Swinging Addis 1969-1974 compilation in 2004 but @Populuxe's obscure world music crate-digging encouraged me to dig it out again.



[EDIT] Ayalèw Mèsfin's "Hasabe" ("My Worries") is another toe-tapper from the same CD. I listened to at least four of five volumes of this series thanks to an Ethiopian guy I worked with but volume eight is the one I liked the most, probably because it's the one which sounds most heavily influenced by Western funk and pop.

Joyous was such an (ahem) pleasurable listen that I went back and checked out Pleasure's previous two LPs Dust Yourself Off and Accept No Substitutes, and I'm glad I did.



I have their follow-ups Get To The Feeling and Future Now lined up for after I listen to that third album again.
