Onto the next Sonic Youth and Goo hits the ground after Daydream Nation without missing a single beat.

It's always great when you hear an album for the first time and know that you'll be listening to it for the rest of your life. I don't know how they do it but they somehow manage to make discord sound melodious. Like all my favourite artists (eg Thelonious Monk) they break all the rules and forge new ones for everyone to follow which expands the genre for everyone else. So glad I finally gave them a try.

I'm not very good at identifying vehicles... is the featured car in the video a Toyota AE86 or something similar? If so it might explain how they were picked for the game soundtrack.

The band is Australian and it says Colt on the hatch, so it must be a mid-‘80s Australian-market Mitsubishi Colt.

Having found myself suddenly in the mood for a large dose of Celtic punk after the Garth Ennis run of Hellblazer I just reread contained liberal references to this band's back catalogue, I've decided to give their first four albums a spin.

I suspect I'll like Rum more than Grace With God as I'm afraid I've had a bellyful of the latter album's singles "Fairytale Of New York" and "Fiesta" which were on heavy rotation on Radio 1 at the time of release. Everything else I've heard from the band has been good though.

This is a 5th Dimension spin off project for a guy called Mike Stokes, who after releasing two fine albums on minor soul label Sussex Records (where Bill Withers got his start) got picked up by a major label (Polydor I think) and after being dumped because they didn't meet their target of selling enough records they went back to nine-to-five obscurity.

Clearly, impeccable production, arrangement (by Motown's Paul Riser) and performing aren't enough if the public aren't interested (or aren't exposed to the product due to insufficient promotion). It's show business, not show art.
