It's Friday morning, it's a sunny day, and it's payday (for me, anyway). Let's enjoy some uplifting soul music.

Edit: 18 seconds. That's how long he holds that note near the end.

I had no idea Phil Hartman created their logo. For that matter, I had no idea Phil Hartman was a graphic designer before he was a writer and actor.

One of my all-time favorite songs, arguably the first existential country song. And check out that great Danelectro Longhorn Baritone guitar Glen is playing.

I knew he'd done Crosby, Stills & Nash's logo but not that one--it's a great bit of design. Of course he was responsible for Steely Dan's Aja cover, as well as a couple from Poco and America. I ought to go into this elsewhere.

Are you sure about Aja? Liner notes list
  • Art direction: Oz Studios
  • Design: Patricia Mitsui, Geoff Westen
  • Photography: Hideki Fujii (cover photo), Walter Becker, Dorothy A. White

Hmph. It's something I've "known" for years, but I guess I just wanted it to be true and accepted it without question. But then turkeys don't actually drown when it rains because they're too stupid to not look up.

I have listened to Jimmy Buffett's "Biloxi" while walking the beach in Biloxi.

I have listened to Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" while walking up Baker Street in London.

But the best was listening to Pizzicato Five's 東京は夜の七時 ("Tokyo Wa Yoru No Shichiji" or "Tokyo at 7:00 at Night" aka "The Night is Still Young") while in Tokyo at 7:00 at night.
