I wouldn't and the main reason Europe pays more then us is due to taxes...Famine explained it somewhere.

I thought that was just the UK. I know Brits get screwed over by their government...

Also look at countries in the middle east, they are paying an equvilent 65 cents per gallon. I don't even remember .65 per gallon gas...EVER! The lowest I can remember was .80 back in the early 90's.

Something really needs to be done and someone really needs to investigate how much OPEC likes to screw over the world.

Yep.

Agreed.

You'll need to ask a European, but from what I understand there form of gas is different then ours. It's higher octane and has some other "stuff" in it. Also like I said higher taxes. But it would be better to ask L4S, Famine, or any other knowledgeable European memeber.

The area that I live in has some of the most road-friendly weather in all of Canada - Although it rains often, it seldom freezes, and we have less heavy truck traffic than many other areas I've been to. We do, however, have a transit system to support that costs us $.08-.10 per litre. That said, our prices have gone nuts lately!!! They went up from $.92 around christmas to the $.96-.99 region until about two weeks ago, when (for no reason, of course) they went to $1.11/litre overnight, and there are predictions that it will go up to $1.21 tonight. BS!!!! Complete BS!!!. It's like some oil baron in Saudi Arabia farted, so now we've got to pay up the ass for fuel [By the way, I'm getting pissed off now.]. All at a time, of course, when I'm looking at nice V8 powered cars.

Yeah, it's starting to get very high here again, 95.9p per litre, cheapest, at a supermarket, 94.9p. It has gone up 2-3p in 2 weeks...

I was watching the news last night and they were talking about the possible gas crisis that could happen. Most of the problems are comming from the futures traders and speculators in reaction to what is going on in Iran. Some of the pannelests didnt think $100 per barrel of oil was out of the question by years end, thus pushing the price of gasoline somewhere near $5 a gallon.

I guess the problems have been that E85 and other ethanol conversions at gas stations across the country have been hard to do, and not enough stations are willing to front the cost for the change. I only know of two stations here in Grand Rapids that sell E85, or even any ethanol/gasoline mixes. My car can only run up to 10% ethanol, so I guess its no big deal, but it does make me want to think about buying an E85 GM Vehicle, used of course...

Some stations around me are starting to sell it, Meijer's just said they would at all of their gas stations (I assume you have a Meijer's near you YSSMAN).

Recent price in Netherlands 1.528 Euro per litre (for Shell V-power petrol).
To put that in perspective.

1 US gallon = 3.785 litres --> 5.78 Eur = 7.156 USD = 3.995 GBP
1 UK gallon = 4.545 litres --> 6.94 Eur = 8.59 USD = 4.796 GBP

Since late November, gas has shot up to $2.75/gal ($2.79 tommorrow) at the closest station and $2.78/gal in town. :grumpy: 👎 And they say it's supposed to get far worse unless the issues with IRAN and Nigeria are solved. 👎 Not to also mention the record oil company profits....... I'm already missing the days when gas was under US $2.00/gal.

You think YOU have it bad? Look at all of california. Regular is $2.96 and deisel is $3.15

It could be MUCH worse- I remember when diesel was over $3.50 a gallon. The highest ive sen it was 3.89 in the south bay last year.W:eek:W

You think YOU have it bad? Look at all of England. We pay roughly $6 per US gallon here ;)

Regular is about 1.31€ per litre at the moment, which equals $6,14 per gallon.

EDIT: @ live4speed: there we go!

My maths say $6.51 per US gallon currently.

You guys need to stop blaming other people for the high fuel prices. Fuel prices are going up because of the diplomatic pressure the US goverment is placing on Iran/tehran and trying to destabilise the nation. Its only going to get worse for quiet some time till it gets better.

Besides which... Malaysia is where it's at.

I doubt it, the reason for high gas prices is

- OPEC's constant screwing all non-OPEC nations
- Oil companies making insane profits off of everyone who isn't part of an oil company.

I highly highly doubt that the US government has anything to do with gas prices in the US, let alone in the world.

But it's over 3 bucks here, on my way home tonight when I filled up it was 3.05 a gallon and I got into a bit of a fuss with the gas station attendent. I told him his company was pretty much screwing the working man (shell oil) and he told me he didn't care (in half broken english)...other people in the station joined my side and one guy ripped the attendent a new a-hole. It was pretty funny because that guy got served.

Might want to check your sources. The date on that says Updated May 2004.

It's still fairly cheap there though.

That's a little harsh.

In the UK the price of petrol can be broken down roughly as follows.

On a pump price of 95.9p/litre, 13.3p of which is VAT (purchase tax) and 50.9p is duty on fuel (tax - and yes, that means we pay purchase tax on fuel tax). That leaves 30.7p/litre for reserve research, extraction, refinement, transport, salaries, land, building upkeep, R&D and, lastly, profit. In total, about 1.5p/litre goes on paying employees and 0.5p/litre ends up as "profit".

So all the people who work for the fuel company, attendant included, see 1.6% of the price I pay at the pump going into their salaries - and they pay how many people? You'd get a better tip than that waiting tables at the Cockroach Cafe in Anthraxtown.

In the US it is marginally different, with only about 10 cents per litre going in taxes (for a quick comparison, this means we pay more than TEN TIMES as much tax at the pump as you guys do, on average). Even so, the raw, taxless petrol price is roughly the same - so your attendant is still one of a massive bunch of people sharing out that 4 cents per litre (15 cents per US gallon) as their pay-packet, and the companies are making 1.5 cents per litre (6 cents per US gallon) profit.

The rest of it goes in getting the stuff to you.

Still gas station owners make a good lick and from what I've heard (which I can't prove to be true nor false) is that when you come to the US you get a tax exemption for x amount of years. Considering I've never seen anyone who is really anything other then Middle Eastern that owns a gas station, the gas station near my house is owned by a man name Mohammed and speaks about 4 English words...so I'm guessing he isn't American.

But if they get a tax exemption, which I've heard from more then one educated person, then they are really making a good lick. Considering I pay quite a bit in taxes and me, myself, isn't particularly wealthy.

Dude, don't take it out on the poor attendents. They scrap together pennies so that they can eat. They're not in cahouts with the oil companies to screw you. They're working that crappy job because they have to.

If you want to rag on oil company employees, at least pick on the people who are actually getting rich off of you. Oil is a very lucrative industry. CEO's are making huge money with enormous bonuses. Exxon's CEO just got a $400 million retirement package. Oil companies routinely pay new entry-level engineering hires $50,000-$60,000 per year (though that is somewhat justified; oil is hellishly complicated to process). At any rate, it's not the people that work at the gas station who are gouging you.

well price just broke $3.00/gal here. horrible...i cant stand it. but since my car died, i can still afford to walk or hitch a ride with friends :)

my parents still suffer tho, so i still feel the heartache

Well lets just say I'm a little short of pissed when it cost me over 50 bucks to fill up my truck...which I purchased when gas was 1.30 a gallon. It's stupid that I'm spending a good half of my paycheck a week on gas. When I'm trying to pay for insurence, school, phone bill, etc. and trying to keep money in my savings account and put money into the market. It's bull that I have to scrafice everything in order drive to and from work.

I'm guessing that your truck doesn't exactly sip gasoline.

If I go easy and stick to a lot of freeways I'll average about 17-19mpg, but that's using a lot of freeways, which a lot of the times I don't. I get more like 15-16mpg and can only go about 270 miles on a tank. I typically fill up twice a week. I used to be hard on it, accelerating fast, going fast, etc. Now I'm easy on the pedal and keep very easy pressure all the time. I don't use the air conditioning if I don't have to and I make sure to keep everything it tip top shape.

But being easy still doesn't help out when you drive a lot, you are going to pay either way.

So why are you complaining about it? Gas is twice as expensive now for everyone, not just you. When you bought your truck, you accepted the risk that gas would not always be $1.30/gallon. If that really bothered you, you would have bought something else.

It bothers me when SUV/truck owners whine about how much they pay for gas. In case people haven't noticed, pretty much every (practical) car sold in the United States gets 30 mpg, which would effectively cut a monthly gasoline bill in half (compared to the average SUV). You want to drive a behemoth? Fine by me. Just don't be surprised when the bear you've been poking decides to maul you.

haha, does any truck now adays? thats why im trying to find a fuel efficient V6 or I-4
Try a VW TDI coupe (or wagon), or you could go for a hybrid(3,500USD tax break at the end of the year!) But then again, a brand new pryus goes for high to mid 30,000. You might be able to find a cheaper one on craigslist:sly:
