On Sunday I watched Billy Crystal's City Slickers. Would you believe it's the first time I watched it? While I was expecting just a silly buddy comedy it genuinely surprised me with the depth of its themes and how expertly filmed the movie is.

And of the performances, we all know about Jack Palance's Oscar-winning turn (and meme worthy moment at the ceremony, when no such thing existed) but I could totally argue for Daniel Stern or Bruno Kirby's (RIP).

This is now one of my top comedies (I also enjoy When Harry met Sally very much).

I wasn't feeling great yesterday and fell asleep so I need to rewatch the middle third of the movie. And probably the end again as I think I was still dozing off. :boggled:

So apparently after rewatching the end, I missed quite a bit more than I thought I did so I'm glad I finished it properly.

I'd like to rate it higher as it's incredibly well done visually but it's just not my kind of movie.

I'm glad you told me before I ended up watching it myself. My favorite genres are comedy and suspense.

So just because I enjoyed it but didn't love it, you aren't even going to watch it? :odd:
 
The wife and I have been watching the MAX TV show "The Pitt". I generally do not like TV shows based in hospitals, but I am really enjoying this one. They take a "24" approach where each episode is an hour of the shift they are working.

My wife has worked in a hospital for over 25 years. She has said that the most accurate hospital based television show is Scrubs. :lol:

She has not. At this point, if a show has anything medical in it, she picking it apart so the last thing she do is choose to watch a show set in a hospital. Even if it is a comedy. :lol:

She is occasionally surprised when something is shown and it's done correctly.

@TB I'll watch it sometime in the future. So, what are some good comedies to watch from the past year or two. I'll look online and see what I can find decent and not violent. I'm not a fan of horror movies.
 
In remembrance of Val Kilmer, I rewatched the Ghost and the Darkness. Although Michael Douglas is credited as the star and Val Kilmer as supporting actor (!), it's Kilmer's film through and through, and it's a fine and entertaining suspense movie.

I failed to mention the fine cast that also includes Bernard Hill (RIP), one year before its famous role as Capt. Smith of the Titanic, Tom Wilkinson, before The Full Monty and in nasty mode, and John Kani (T'Chaka, father of T'Challa, the Black Panther).

Today I watched some scenes on Youtube from the movie, Ted 2. You guys should see that Comic-Con scene where Donnie tried to kidnap Ted, his disguise was a TMNT costume. Take a look. Ted got away but he had to run and hide in a large audience. John got injured there and had to be transported to the nearest hospital.

I'm gonna find Toy Story 4 on DVD and watch it again soon. Very funny and action-packed animated film for kids and families of all ages.

It's a crazy horror slasher with one of the characters named Millie. You should see it, I've seen it at least 30 times in a 4-year period. I'm a semi fan of horror but sci-fi films have my best attention.

I meant I'm not a fan of the actual horror movies, but any science fiction series I like, the X-files is one, sorry for the confusion. Just clarifying for everyone. However my mom is against horror. She likes comedies. Are there any other decent science fiction films that you recommend that we look at. Not violent ones, but with fantasy and action.

Rewatching season 1 over the long weekend ready for the new episodes. Who thought it was a good idea to release them on a Tuesday? Avoiding spoilers until I can watch each 3 new ones will be hell.

  • Catching up with Drive to Survive, season 6 (Netflix) = GoT on wheels.
  • House of David (Amazon Prime) = Biblical GoT (better source material?)
  • Rewatching Picard (Amazon Prime), and about to finish season 1
  • The Last of Us (Max) episode 1, season 1
  • What We Do in Darkness (through Disney+), season 2

That's where The Last Of Us video games came from, they were based off of the real movie which I haven't seen yet. Not sure if I will anytime soon, we'll see...
