Jay:
Der Alta offered some excellent driving tips, and I'll second all of those pointers. Especially in a FWD car, brake hard in a straight line, before you get to the turn-in point. Then get back on the gas smoothly as you turn, and accelerate only as much as you can without making the car understeer into the outside wall.
I'll also offer some tips for tuning FWD suspensions. Most FWD cars understeer heavily, but this can often be adjusted out with suspension settings.
1) Camber is your friend, especially in front. For and FWD car I usually run 3.0 degrees in front, and 1.0 in back.
2) Dampers should be softer in front than in back; almost half the rear settings. If you have the race suspension, try running the rebound a little stiffer than the bound, as well. So for the Xsara, say, you'd start with something like this:
Bound: 3F/5R
Rebound: 6F/8R
If the car understeers when accelerating, soften the front bound or stiffen the rear rebound. If the car understeers when braking or deccelerating, then soften the front rebound or stiffen the rear bound.
3) Stabilizers - stiffer at the rear to reduce understeer. Try 3F/4-5R. If 5R doesn't help the car rotate more, soften the front to 2.
Hope this helps!
