Greatness! ...haha... But seriously. I believe it is a car that "you/yourself" loves every aspect of it, the way it handles, it's power, it's braking, everything! A car you can get into on any occasion and just KNOW you are getting ready to have a great time/drive/race!! There is a few cars on GT5 that have that sense about them to me personally.

A couple that REALLY stand out to me PERSONALLY would be the Jaguar XKR-R for it's amazingly fun to drive, you can run fast laps around any track with any car in its class, or you can decide to have fun and snap the accelerator at any point and just power slide any corner you feel with ease!

Next would be the Peugeot 905, this car is an amazing Le Mans car! It is slightly under powered compared to most but that giant wing and amazing body curvature is not only beautiful but carries that car SO fast around corners it's like driving a big go-kart! And with its low weight the braking is genius! It is honestly one of the few Le Mans cars I run with absolutely no aids!

And last (for now) but definitely not least would be the Cerbera Speed 12! Yes this car does not go around a track the best, but if you want to go around the track sideways that's your car! I tune it down to about 700 HP or even less for drifting, but if I enter a "cruise room" I am more than proud to pull this beast out! Unleash and unrestricted all 1026HP and this car will roll at 30MPH and even with racing soft you can drop the hammer and those back tires smoke and spin pushing you in a straight line up to well over 100MPH before they stop spinning! And that noise it makes! It's that raw sound of engine valves and a crackle of a straight pipe exhaust! Love it! ..well that's all for me at the moment, I hope someone reads and enjoys this! -JGancherJr-

Would you mind splitting that post up into a few paragraphs? In its current state it is a chore to read. ;)

Lol sorry I'm on mobile .. Is that better?

What defines a great car?

Something that is fun. Something that will make you feel good, or just enjoy driving it.

I can't think of many cars that come into that category - but a great car to me would be the cars which have a great personality and their flaws are seen as minute because of this.

The cars which I think are great (IMO):

I like the SL600 because of its crazy power and unexpected speed.

The LFA is great because of the sense of drama it creates even though it isn't really as fast as the other Hypercars.

Then the Volkswagen Lupo or a standard Miata/MX-5 - just so chuckable on the Nordschliefe it really does put a smile on your face.

There are many cars that are great but I think the main factor (IMO) that makes a car great is whether it's fun or not.

Handeling, then speed, then looks, then price.

When you refer to Handling, what do you look for in handling? Grip?

Edit: Why isn't Fun in the poll?! :( :sly:

 Someone voted everything apart from "everything above" probably just to be annoying and inconvenient...hehe. :sly:

My opinion is great car = easy handling. When a car is easy to drive, stable and fast like the others of the race is a great car.

It needs a 2.2L engine, coupled with the extravagant design of a 2001 Camry:

But seriously, my old 1992 is better. :sly:

But seriously seriously, a "great" car has to be very fun and very fast at the same time. I'm not too worried about styling since you're not outside when driving your car.

My choice would be Ferrari 458.

I voted for handling, historic significance, and advancements in technology.

The Nissan GT-R, Ford GT40, McLaren F1.
Those cars have the handling, historic significance, and advancements in tecnolodgy.
Sure those cars are expensive and they also look beautiful, but the looks aren't everything.
Each of those cars and more are special, and also have broken records and won awards.

The 2.2's a ballsy little thing, but let's be realistic here. Not all of us are tough enough to graduate to the 2.2 :sly:

But, to answer the question; all those things are relevant to a great car, but the thing I like the most is the way a car makes you feel. Do you enjoy riding in it? For example, I like Minis because they're a hoot drive; they may not be comfortable, or have lots of technology, or even get good gas mileage, but they make you feel great. On the flip side, we have a Toyota Sequoia. It's completely different from the Mini, but riding in it makes you feel like the king of the road, wafting along on your body on frame magic carpet. You see what I mean? A car can be great on paper, but if you just aren't having a good time with it on the road, it's not a great car.

I'm with Doogler on this... where's the option for "soul"?

Maybe that sounds a bit Clarksonish, but a great car to me is anything that makes me smile. Looks and all that are in there, but in many ways I have way more fun in my Midget II/Mini(s) than I do in, say, a Vette or Fezza. Just whipping through a series of bends in an underweighted zipper is far more gratifying than precisely hitting the apex everytime in a quad-core laptop.

Great handling car : Honda NSX and Nissan R32 - 34 GTR
I like classic cars with history, no need to be fast or good looking, something raw and full of charisma, Lotus Esprit Turbo HC is a good example

Price should never come into the equation. A "great car" should be great because of what it offers the driver, not how little or much it costs. (My feelings, I'm sure others will disagree)

A car is all about the driving experience, so looks then become a secondary issue. What's the point of a good-looking car if it handles like a blind pig on rollerskates?

So for me:

1) Handling & Performance (not necessarily top speed, just how well it drives)
2) Looks (although this is subjective, because one man's beauty etc etc)
3) Everything else follows after the above, in no particular order.

The perfect car MUST be flawless, price dosent matter but I'd say if it was cheap that's always a bonus. For me it also has to be fun on demand.

I would say how the car makes you feel personally, one man's great car could be another man's worst nightmare.

I say a great car is a car where its loud(need earplugs loud), dangerous to drive, hurts to sit in, lower than 1 inch to the ground, no suspension, no roof, no headlights, drum brakes, the tires are HOOSIER racing tires (quick time pro's so street legal), and rusty..... in other words a rat rod which in every aspect is going to get you a ticket if you drive it

Spirithockey61
Im mean like how much oversteer the car has, how much grip the car has...stuff like that

Yeah, if it was just grip it'd be a great car to an extent. For example the GTR is a great car in many ways but it lacks excitement sometimes because of how much grip it has.

...and what car does that relate to in GT5?

Haha good point, well...... it can relate to a lambo aventador with no exaust pipes, no suspension ect. Haha i got off topic my bad

First off, this doesn't belong in the GT5 section. ;)

As for the question, I selected all the options except the 'historical significance' one.

I don't believe a car has to have/obtain a historic reputation before it's "Great".

That's just my opinion though. ;)

Well everyone is saying the cars which are great in GT5 so it kinda does.

If it gets moved and we can talk about any car then I guess I owe cggorman an apology!

However that time has not come yet. :sly:

Come to think of it, the old Peugeot 505 GTI that I used to drive when I was in high school was a great car, comfy, good enough on power and handling, the brakes were bitey, great car, wished I had the Turbo version.

A great car is a car that won't snap back at you and will do exactly what you tell it to without any under or oversteer.

A great car is a car that does what it's told, when it's told it. Also, more than 800Hp and a 7:xx.xxx lap time around the Nurburgring. Example: Pagani Huraya
A REALLY great car is a car that can drive upside down in a tunnel. Example: Gumpert Apollo Sport.
