Ever since the original Gran Turismo came out in the late 90s, I have been using the PlayStation controller. I've never been willing to invest in a wheel (sad, I know). But after I won the Grand Prize during the GT Academy Twitter Party, I can now say that I will be a proud owner of the Logitech GT Wheel (this is me smiling with excitement).

My question is this: What percentage of you guys use a wheel? Everything I've heard says a wheel will automatically reduce lap times if used correctly, so I'm geeked to finally have one. I can't wait.

And are there any helpful tips out there so I can take full advantage of my future toy?

Congrats:cheers: I use a Logitec DFGT a wonderful wheel. Unfortunately I had to Pay $145 when it came out:crazy:

In my opinion once you figure it out you'll never turn back:drool:

PS you should have added a poll with the top three controllers: DS3, DFGT, and the crown jewel of controllers the :bowdown:G27.

I played with a DS3 for over a year and a half. I finally decided to get a G27 2 weeks ago and it really just made the game fun again, it's much more immersive. There was a huge learning curve though.

I use DualShock since GT2 (my first GT game) and I don't plan on buying a wheel anytime soon, they're a bit expensive for me. Maybe when I GT6 comes out.

Any wheel is only as good as the user. Lap times might drop? But that is not always the case! A wheel can take time to learn(even for experienced drivers). Don't be surprised if you find it challenging at first.

Congrats on winning your DFGT..I'm sure you will enjoy it..Get ready for a whole new experience.

i use a dfgt.its great for tuning and racing because you can feel the car gripping on the road

Be prepared that it could be really hard in the beginning. The licence tests are good driving schools though.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I figure it will take some getting used to...just like when I bought a new gaming mouse for my computer when playing World of Warcraft a few years ago (my Tank hated me letting him die during Boss fights...haha).

I might feel sorry for my girl when I start hogging the TV again.

I can definitely recommend the dfgt I had that wheel before I got my gt2. It's a great wheel, the only draw back being the pedals but they aren't unusable.

I use a DS3 controller, tried a wheel once in gt3 I think, and couldn't get used to it. I might get one for gt6.

Used DS(1,2,3) for all Gran Turismo games, then I got around buying a G27 for my GT5 last year...

Im never going back! :dopey:

Some very fast racers use the controller - some are world class fast. Does the wheel make you faster? Probably not, but it's a lot more fun and makes it feel like you are actually driving the cars in the game - not sure how many real life cars are controlled with a joy stick and little buttons. That's probably why anyone really serious about sim racing ends up getting a wheel.

So enjoy your wheel, and like it has been said here already, give yourself time. I know of at least one fast ds3 user that purchased a good wheel but returned an hour later out of frustration. Another guy will only use the wheel for fun, but goes back to the ds3 for time trials.

On the last event of GT academy 2012 it was 93% Wheel and 7% DS3 in the top 5000.

Do the license tests a lot... A lot of time can be found in the very simple things (the basics).

I'm not sure ,but I think I know him.

There is a learning curve when you first get a wheel, making it harder at first. Once over the hump, no going back. Play with the settings, i like ffb 10, and simulation.

DS3 all the way, a wheel is to expensive for me :( altough I could easily gold all license tests with it. Maybe when GT6 will be out I will give the wheel a try.

Been there :) Well worth it. Now we just have two TV's in the living room, and I've been forced to switch from Surround Sound to Turtle Beach Headset.

G27 here. A wheel is worth every penny, and it seems more and more people are using wheels every day. I love the trend :)

I have always used a DS3 (controller). Honestly, I'm a little concerned that if I do buy a wheel, whatever brief periods in my life that are not consumed by gaming will quickly end.

A poll would be a great idea for this question, maybe there already is one?

I've been on a g27 and playseat evo for 2-3 years. It's a pain to adjust to but you'll never look back. Once I had it for an hour or two I was smiling from ear to ear. It's just plain fun! Congrats on the win!

I would get a stock miata with stock tires and free run a bit around your favorite track (trial mtn, deep forrest)

It will be difficult but stay with it. Hardest thing to do is recover a potential spin. The trick is not to get into those situations in the first place. Easier to be more precise with the wheel.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fasssst.

This thread could use a poll, easier to see the numbers 👍.

Anyways, I been using a G27 since a few months before Prologue came out (3 maybe 4 years now?). Only advice would be to practice! Sounds cliche but it's the truth, it's totally different than playing with a DS3/controller, you actually need to get your body into it!

Easier said than done...haha. But I see your point.

I'll see if I can add a poll as soon as I get on a web browser. I'm not sure if I can do it with the Android app.

Poll finally! Modded G27 all day! Played with the DS3 for a while and got bored..the wheel is a whole new world. Still addicted to GT5! I played all GTs 1 through 4 with a controller and loved it but GT5 I just needed more, but I think GT5 is just up to the level that you need a wheel to fully bring it out.

Started out with the DS3. Then got a DFGT, switched to a G27, then recently upgraded to a CSR Elite. All three are very good wheels for their price range.

I used a DS3 for the first few weeks I had GT5, and by the end of those few weeks I felt pretty good about my driving...when my g27 came in, within 2-3 days of playing my lap times had gone down drastically, and I was able to gold more of the license tests. At least for me, the wheel definitely improved my game experience and driving.
