What do you use?

What do you take when you have a cold? Stuffed up nose, sneezing, etc. I have had to blow my nose at least a hundred times today. I need something to make that stop, if there is such a thing. WHat do you use. Does it work well?

Wow. So helpful. I went and got some Alka-Seltzer cold and flu. I seem to remember it working in the past. We'll see.

My nose... it hurts. I can't touch it anymore.

I never really get colds any more. I just get somthing called alergic rhinitis. Which is worse to be quite honest. So the stuff I use for that just wouldn't help you. Though this stuff called Octrivine (a nasal spray) works amasingly. Cleared my blocked nose in seconds and lasted for several hours.

Nothing, I sit it through.

But I guess you wanted help. Sorry.

I used to do that, but it doesn't look good taking time off if you have a job. Mind you it's probably worse to go to work with an untreated cold. I usually take vitamin C pills and uh, *checks* Beechams flu plus. Which is awesome, because it doesn't take long to start working.

Edit: Tissues are good, but you've probably used a few by the sounds of it. I hate sleeping with a runny nose.

I think the easiest thing to do is not catch one in the first place.

Durr

And how would one avoid never catching a cold? Unless you live indoors with Air-con all year round.

I take pseudophedrine. Dayquil works pretty well too, if you can get past the taste, and it doesn't knock you out.

I only had to go to the bathroom and blow my nose once during class. I guess that's good. It could've been worse. Or I could've been one of those rude gross types who blows their nose wherever they happen to be.

I haven't had a cold in so long I can't remember. I think Wal-Dryl worked pretty well in the past. I have a prescription for Allegra too and that works very well.

I just finally recovered from a cold yesterday, after having it since last Monday. That was actually a short cold... mine usually last about 3 weeks.

Anyway, my advice isn't exactly helpful, because I don't know what I take... I take two small red pills and this one yellow pill during my major nose-blowing-period. Then, during my hard-mucus-stuck-in-throat-period, I take Robotussin (thanks Gil for that!).

Thing is, I don't really mind what happens during the day... what really annoys me is not being able to fall asleep due to a cold. By far, the best thing I have found is TheraPatch. It's expensive ($6.35 for 6 patches), but it works so damn well.

stuffed up nose...had one for the past 12 years. had surgery for it when i was in 7th grade but that was nothing more than a $7000 waste of money since the misshapen crap inside of my nose grew back to where it originally was. then the docs tried giving me allergy meds without testing me...they worked for about a day or 2 each before i became immune to their effects. then 3 years ago i found out what i was allergic to, and so got allergy shots for those problems. not one of the weekly shots worked :(.

when i have a cold, i tough it out unless i have an upcoming test/assignment...then i'll take a dose of the nighttime stuff before i go to bed and the minimal dose possible of the daytime stuff before heading off to school (if it's liquid then a half dose)

needless to say, i rarely ever take medicine (the vaporub/inhaler stuff included) for colds/stuffy nose cos it rarely ever helps me...only when it's extremely bad will i ever bother - then sometimes it gets worse when i do take it. I never take pain killers only because i have a high tolerance to pain.

either way, i only ever get 4 colds per year...1 everytime there's a change in seasons - and i think what i get is allergic rhinitis and not a cold because of how worthless most countertop medicines are on my body. it's not like i ever take any prescription strength stuff though...unless it's antibiotics for some infection

Nothing.. Just make sure you don't get any colder and don't expose yourself to contain temperature changes and you should feel better in a few days.
