You know what grinds my gears, Missing the clutch while Left Foot Breaking.

*sigh*

There's this forum I visit from time to time. A fellow Filipino pointed out that a year old YouTube comment is insulting. Fellow countrymen of the one who posted the YouTube comment started flaming this friend of mine.

I hate it when people pick a fight for no reason at all.

shem
Wouldn't get a 'warning' from me. Would get a 'waiting for signs of brain activity' diagnosis from the intensive care nurses.

Seriously, a man that touches a woman abusively is not a man at all. Nuff' said.

Saying that, a man that touches my wife might get more than they ask for, 11 years of Muay Thai training, and all that.

Sweet! I'll fly you to Sweden & hire you if I find the guy ;)

There really isn't such a thing called "shopping etiquette", but what grinds my gears are people with poor shopping etiquette.

Edjt: Wait! Oh my heavens! Someone actually wrote something about shopping etiquette!

I found this very well worth noting:

Try to have your money ready not searching your purse for a few dollars you hid in pocket. Remember there are others who are waiting.

I seriously hate it when people stand there watching the cashier load up the shopping bags with their purchases, and then take ages to find change or money in their purse, wallets and pockets. I don't mind getting a handful of change, but still.. there are more acceptable ways to get rid of change than to do it all at once.

To make matters worse, not every store accepts credit, so one should always carry an alternative way to pay just in case, like cash or interact. I was ready to snap when I completed a $127 transaction and the customer didn't have an alternative payment method to Credit Card.

When the guy my girlfriend is babysitting for decides to show up late and ruin our plans. An hour and a half late. Without notice. And not even have the decency to pay her extra. I am livid, that is just unbelievable on his part.

My father. every time I'm playing games he tells me to do something else and get another hoddy. So I take up something like rc drifting I asked him to bring me a smooth peace of wood to practice on 6 months ago. I still don't have one and my parents don't understand that if I'm not aloud to play on the weekdays my grade will slip cause I'm angery, bored or sad all the time, with no entusiem to study.

So I go into the bank to get a prepaid credit card today. Sounds simple right? The bank clerk says I need a parent to sign for me, so I go outside back to the car and ask my dad to sign for me and he refuses. Aghh... not even mom would go in. Stupid gear grinding mayhem!

You must've been angry as hell since birth because your post made my Grammar Police scanner bluescreen.

I think that's the angriest post you've ever made :sly:. But I totally agree, that is out of order.

I'm not much of an anger person. I sat down and had a Sprite and was chilled out again. The extent of my anger is to normally write a strongly worded letter and then throw it away . I'm just normally a laid back type of guy, or at least I try to be!

Many things at the moment. Curiosity, confusion, lack of knowledge of some things, my seemingly inherited ability to mess up everything and more. More includes a lack of accuracy, my obsessiveness for organization being outclassed by my lazyness, peoples lack of understanding, that I'm wrapped up in an unsolvable conundrum (problem) and my ever so clear desire to use big words to make me sound intelligent. These things grind my gears, many of them can be fixed, but habits are difficult to break. Sorry for this long post, have a lot on my mind.

Well you certainly come across that way on the forums.

Car fans that call an engine a motor.

Engine - internal combustion engine.
Motor - electric engine.

Motorsports is a kind of an oxymoron to me (especially when people say they don't want electric cars in racing) but that's one I've just got to live with...

Well in another way Enginesports does not sound that good.

People who disagree with you in certain threads, and get the rest of the posters in that thread to start ripping on you.. :nervous:

Depends on the language you're speaking... 💡
In Portuguese, a motor is a motor. There's no word for engine. You either specify what kind of motor it is (internal combustion/electric/etc.), or leave it at that. By default, if someone's talking about cars, it's understood that it's an internal combustion one.

About "motorsports" and its derivatives, the principle is exactly the same.
If you try to understand that not all the world speaks English as its primary language, nor all worlds that exist derive from English, you'll begin to accept more easily what grinds your gears, and maybe they'll stop grinding a bit over time. 👍

I'm talking the English as first language speakers, not the foreign language speakers (yes, there's a massive difference between languages and what words mean what).

Plus, I rarely ever call motorsports motorsports. Racing is what it generally is so that's what I refer to it as.

Please don't try and talk down to me like I've got no idea about the world around me, I'm not ignorant like so many others out there...(that also grinds my gears)

I use the term motor sports to cover all things that move from electric bikes to full on F1 cars.

It drives me crazy when I say I'm watching Formula 1 to Chinese people and they've no idea what I'm talking about but as soon as I say F1 they know what I mean. It must be a translation thing.

Good for you then. 👍

Is that really what bothers you in this world...?

And maybe you should look up the word "motor" in a dictionary.

You think that's petty? Have a read back through this thread...

"In common usage, an engine burns or otherwise consumes fuel, and is differentiated from an electric machine (i.e., electric motor) that derives power without changing the composition of matter."

Not to mention the fact that I'm quite content with my life in this world, kinda makes it hard to find something to be negative about when it's so easy to be positive.

And what does that sentence tells you?

An "engine" is a more especific type of motor, that's it. It doesn't make it that wrong to call an engine "motor" - it actually is one. And "electric" has nothing to do with it.

Glad to know you're happy, too! 👍

How people dislike those who are ignorant yet exhibit the qualities of an ignorant person. Engine, motor, powerplant, whatever you want to call it: when your referring to the same thing it really doesn't matter what you call it. The Inuit have 20 words for 'snow'. So maybe instead of arguing your case saying basically the same thing you said in your previous 3 posts, you can let other people have a different people and respect the fact that people view things differently. "But in English-" no, just no, stop. What currently grinds my excessively worn-out gears? I got my grade 11 timetable today and have 4 business classes this year, but I have to take a parenting class in the 2nd Semester. At least I have English with the best English teacher. Now, on with your stuff. :)

I second what Vandenal said 👍

I created this Thread to allow people to vent, what's the point in coming on here to vent your frustrations if people are just going to add fuel to the flames?

Leave it alone and move on please people, yes Technically a Motor is not an Combustion Engine, but does it really matter in the context of the subject? No.

So, back on track.....

What really Grinds my Gears?

Spiders, I don't like the things at all, I can tolerate them in my house ect, but when I walk past a bush and get its horrible web all over my face....that Grinds my Gears.

Well, AFAIK "Motor" is German for engine, so when someone says "Yeah, the motor in my Skyline is the RB26" they're not entirely wrong.

Lol, NO ONE CARES!
please, enough of this already.
If it really must be debated further we can create a new Thread or something.
