What GT5 cars have GOOD engine sounds?

Whilst I agree that good ≠ accurate (necessarily at least; for some people, accurate may well be the definition of "good") I suspect you're exaggerating with your last statement. Perhaps you've only driven a handful of cars? And what of the attempt to assign a quantitative "rating" to something which can only ever be "measured" qualitatively?

Many of the stock cars sound close to real, at least if you consider the exhaust alone, since there is no intake sound in the game. The problem, as usual, comes when you start swapping parts over.

I've driven only about half the cars in the game, so perhaps I haven't been exposed to some of the better sounding cars yet.

Regarding the "I've yet to find a car in GT5 that sounds within 90% of the real thing" thing, none of the cars, in my opinion, sound close to the real thing. After about 3K revs, the car sounds like the sound file has been "stretched." I'm going to assume that PD didn't bother to rev the cars to over 3K RPM when they were "recording it's sound." Or maybe they didn't bother at all.

Saying that none of the cars sound "close" is fine (although I'd still disagree); attributing a totally arbitrary (but somehow quantitative, as though it were measured objectively) 90% "close-ness" is not.

Your assumptions are incorrect; there are videos disproving this for a start. However, the "general consensus", amongst those who have an ear for this sort of thing, is that there are only two samples in the rev range, plus idle. That means one sample used low down, another for mid / high. The inevitable result is the sound is thin in the high revs because it is, by necessity, "stretched" (actually, it's compressed - it's played back faster than it was recorded at) to fill the gap. You could argue that they should have stretched the lower range, but it's really no better that way because of the "underwater" effect you get with sample stretching (playing the sample back slower than it was recorded at).

If the the PS3 had more memory, or if PD had attributed more memory to sound, then maybe they could have used more of the sounds they bothered to record. ;)

2005 Subaru Impreza with no exhaust mod. Turn up surround sound, max the bass, and your in heaven.

Lexus LFA with stock exhaust. Anyone who changes the exhaust should be shot.

FWIW, a GOOD sounding car doesn't necessarily mean that it's a REALISTIC sounding car. A Honda Civic that sounds like a Lexus LFA may be a good sound, but it isn't a realistic one.

I've yet to find a car in GT5 that sounds within 90% of the real thing.

I present to you the Corvette C6 Z06 :sly:

I've also fallen in love with the Nissan 370Z stock exhaust. Absolutely beautiful sound when going from 4500rpm-7500rpm

I also enjoy listening to the Nissan R89C/R92CP. Probably the most brutal sound in-game. It might not be completely realistic, but it definitely is brutal :scared:

If you like bosozokus, their exhaust systems and revving/zig-zagging..
YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE THIS!

I find that in GT the sounds are tainted by improper Looping of the samples, so one car might have a great Sound when steadily climbing in Revs, but as soon as you either hit the speed limit or try to cruise in a consistent manner, you hear the terrible looping sound.

Ford Escort Rally Car is a prime example of this looping problem.

Many cars have great sound, but are tainted by this looping issue.

I love the sound of my C6 ZR1 race Corvette. When all other cars fail to excite me, I turn to the Corvette and let her rip. I love short shifting it out of the slow corners and let that big V8 torque rumble thru the speakers.

These cars sound realistic also:
88 honda accord fully modded
Taurus SHO stock
Mustang svt cobra stock

Fiat 500 (old) with semi racing. It's sounds almost as if it's saying "I'm so angry about being small! Everyone makes fun of me! Grr!"

New Camaro SS with Semi titanium racing exhaust.

Stock Mercedes SLS during acceleration from low to mid RPM sounds like the real thing...more so in 3rd person cam.

Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2.

The entire car is just fantastic to drive, and the engine sound is brilliant. The 1960's was a very good decade for cars.

Premium Corvette Z06 C5 sounds NASTY!

Whilst it may be nasty this thread is dedicated to good sounding cars.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
8c Competizione

Jaguar XJ13

Jaguar XJ13

Sorry, but XJ13 engine sound is consisting of so many wrong and recycled sounds coming from elsewhere, that it doesn't even sound like engine at all (Onkyo, Jamo). More painful is that it has even no life in its suspension, which feels very fake to me, like they were only allowed to create the graphical model. Sad story, although there is more than obvious that effort dedicated for modelling of this genial piece of car art was exceptional.

TVR Speed 12 -
dynometer breaking

Amuse S2000 GT1 Turbo - (Could have been the Naturally Aspirated one thinking of it...)
Pleasingly grumpy at low revs.

The '97 Camaro Z28 and the '88 Camaro IROC-Z concept sound good too in stock form.
By the way, I think their sound has been made much better by a post Spec-II game update.

Most definitely, even the Race tranny on some cars is almost unnoticeable (but still on others, appropriately)

Post Spec II the engine is more present and booming (in cockpit view) the wind sound balance is better and less obnoxious, the exhaust is also appropriately mixed, the V8s have a hearty rumble, V12s (SL600 98) have the rumble with the flourishing high end.

But this improvement in clarity has brought up some flaws in the Standard car sounds, its (to me at least) obvious that the Sounds are much more detailed and of higher quality in Premiums.

Toyota Chaser, especially while drifting.

The three standard Zondas (C12, C12S, C12S 7.3)
