So you got a chip that runs HOT(read 2600k wishes it was that hot) for an HTPC(not best cooling, small case) and you are planning on OCing it along with the GPU?

I said "I might" overclock the cpu and gpu. I'm well aware of temperatures and I'm used to working in tight cases. I'm set on the CPU and I won't be changing my order. I've actually seen a tin open for a FX-8150 and the heatsink had two heatpipes to spread the heat in the heatsink. Though I do have plans to to change the 120mm fan included in the case and maybe change the heatsink.

Won't a smaller case mean better air flow since there's less air in the case? Just put a 120mm fan...or two.

Just twiddled around with the SRS Audio Sandbox app to see if I can get a better sound quality out of my speakers.

Also fondled a Core 2 Duo @ 3GHz chip that I have in an anti-static bag wondering why the hell I haven't made a build out of it and why it's still lying around. :)

Oh, so I'm assuming 66 degrees is hot when OC'd and under load? Especially with a proven Black Edition heatsink?

The black edition heat sinks are not even good enough to keep overclocked quad cores cool enough, let alone an 8 core.
With the deneb phenomII, 55* was highest I would go for 24/7(established safe max temp among the community so take it as you will), I'm not sure about the new BD chips. I have not looked into them any further than the launch-time reviews.

That is the same sink that came with the quad core phenoms, IIRC.

I'm not trying to tell you what CPU to get. I know you made your decision. I'm just not on the whole bang-for-buck bandwagon since BD no longer gives you that.

TjMax on the 8150 is 90C...

Repasted laptop (again). Originally planned on replacing the thermal pads with paste, but the gaps where the pads were would've been far too big to paste over so I just put some paste on the pads, lol

Also ran a HD benchmark on my desktop for t3h lulz.

Anyone clued up on HD performance have an idea why my primary drive is so slow? Overhead from Windows possibly skewing the results? They're identical drives (1TB Samsung F3s, not in RAID) so I would've expected near-identical results O_o

Where is a trusted site on Computer basics?
I have been working on my template for my arcade stick.

I would just try to keep an eye on the hard drive's SMART data. You can keep a track of hard drives and if it really starts to get bad then you can just clone the hard drives and move to new ones. That's what I did for my laptop before the hard drive went bad.

TjMax on the 8150 is 90C...

I'm having a hard time finding that on the AMD website. Mind giving me a link?

Yeah probably just the background activity of windows and other programs. The dips way down are probably when it's seeking somewhere else. The firmware could also be different.

I took my PSU to my mates to help work out what was wrong with his PC. We tested his pc with a new PSU, we tried shorting the power on switch and we checked, double checked and triple checked everything to make sure nothing else was shorting (We took the Mobo out of the case and put in new screws etc. incase one was loose and causing a short somehow. We also checked every single wire). Still, it only powers on for a split second and then goes off. The PSU fan twitches and the Motherboard light stays on whenever it's connected and PSU switch set to on, but it cannot power on or boot.

In the end we have narrowed down the problem to either his CPU or his motherboard. We will be replacing the CMOS battery over the next few days to see if that helps. His Mobo doesn't have a speaker so it doesn't beep. It's still under warranty (allegedly) but he doesn't have proof of purchase. He's screwed basically.

On the way back there was a torrential downpour and my bag was slightly open :scared:. Some water droplets were in my bag so as a precaution i'm not putting my PSU back in my PC yet as some may have got inside it, i'll leave it overnight.

The battery can't have anything to do with it. He should get a speaker for the motherboard, that would really help.

I read about that but what does that tell you that the light on the Mobo doesn't? I did ready on Tomshardware forums that somebody fixed this problem by replacing the CMOS battery. It's such a simple and cost effective solution that it is worth a try.

My keyboard finally arrived. Currently getting more and more hated in the office by the keystroke. :sly:

Love it.

I took out my reference msi gtx 570 to sale and put in 2 twin frozr III 570s in sli. Bring on Battlefield 3. The Twin frozr IIIs are much more quit then my single reference card was, and that's the reason I made the switch.

The top one is also much cooler, by about 15c, then the reference card, but the bottom one is going to need the fan turned up some on it. It's running about 10c warmer then the top card.

I may have my other one for sale soon, if it doesn't work with my friends MOBO. I'll be asking 225 you pay the shipping.

Got most of the parts for my bulldozer computer and decided to make videos of the parts I ordered. Just videos that showed an overview of each part. Currently compressing videos for upload to youtube. Can't wait till I try handbrake on the Bulldozer CPU as files take a while even if my Core 2 Duo is overclocked to 3.5GHz.

Found and installed these in my search for a Nixie Clock Screensaver:

Drop Clock

Polar Clock

I sort of want this:

But I really just want a screen saver that will look like this:

Deleted some junk off my Desktop and moved some to other folders. My hard drive is a complete and utter MESS. On teh school holidays, Imma get in and clean it up entirely. ALL my old school assignments from each grade go in certain folders. I can't have it like it is anymore :L

Learned how to play "My Heart Will Go On" on the Violin today. And annoyed my cousin by playing it since she starts to cry when she hears that song play.

And this has to do with computers how...?

I've gone and installed Ubuntu on one of my computers, and have been fiddling with the hardware on another box I have to see if something is actually dead or if I am just losing my mind.

*FacePalm* Didn't see that last set of words "Computer version" :banghead:

I'll soon be upgrading my Q6600 based system with exciting new acquisitions...

Micro Center has some really compelling November deals going on. As in much cheaper than my preferred online shops. Rather than wait for Ivy Bridge I went ahead and snagged an i7 2600K. I spent a while deliberating over the 2500K and 2600K. The desire for potentially smoother multi-tasking and faster video encodes when populating my NAS won out.

Unfortunately both nearby locations don't seem to carry any of the Asus Gen 3 boards and were out of the Asrock Z68 Extreme 4 Gen3, so I went with the MSI Z68A-GD65 G3 motherboard. Maybe I dodged the bullet there. The Asrock warranty is only 2 years.

Let's hope you have one of the good MSI boards.

Well, I've contacted Thermaltake about a discontinued product of theirs to see if there is any way they could help locate one. Maybe they'll be cool about it. Though really, all I'm looking for is the Waterblock to the system.

I created a bootable USB disk with Kubuntu on it. It's cooler to have an entire system in your pocket. It's a good way to test an OS before installing.
