Rebuilt a system from my brother:


I love the wire management of the Antec 1100 case!!!

At work today, someone requested a computer be put in the conference room to connect to a projector. I had a spare, crappy Pentium 4 machine already so I set off on what I thought would be a 15 minute job. The P4's video card had a DVI output. The monitor had a DVI in. The projector did not. It did have pretty much every other connection under the sun, but not a DVI and, of course, I had no connectors that would work. After an hour of digging through cables and connectors, I ended up replacing the video card from another machine that had a Molex output and used a Molex to two HD15 splitter (for some reason there are a crap load of Molex based splitters laying around the office :embarrassed:dd). Ninety minutes later, it was all up a running... :lol:

Also, I now have a scheduled time from IT for my new machine to arrive! Pics more than likely to follow after it's all set up. :dopey:

Thanks! One of my cleanest builds so far without the need of any custom holes or cable wraps. Imagine all the non-wrapped wired in black cable wrap, and holes drilled for Front Audio and Front USB Headers. I could have really hid most the wiring. Awesome case, I would highly suggest it to anyone looking for a full size tower.

My case unfortunately doesn't have the room routing all wires like that :/
 
Ah yes, cable management is a god send of a feature. Almost always required for me. My Fractal Design Core 3000 does not have a hole for a 8pin CPU power cable so I ended up routing the cable over the CPU cooler. But not to worry my system has a Antec H2O 620 mounted on the CPU, so no worries of damaging a cable or worse, the processor. Though seeing that is making me think of redoing the cable management.
 
@Spike125, yes. If this were my machine, I would have wrapped the wires for sure to keep them out of sight.

@nick09, if you have room behind the mobo, you can always drill an access hole in the mobo support plate. Thoughts for the next time around, eh? :)

Wire management is for people that have clear side covers that like to show off how much money they spent on their computer. As long as cables aren't directly blocking airflow in and out of the case, there really isn't much reason to do the extreme hiding that some people do.

You are correct in that proper management of wires does in fact help in overall air flow of the system. If they are "out of site", you have properly managed your wires, you can, however have a clean install even if the wires are not out of sight which is the point I think you were trying to make.

To say that "Wire management is for people that have clear side covers that like to show off how much money they spent......" just isn't true. For example, that build I did above will go into a cabinet where my wiring will never see the light of day again (until it is pulled out for upgrades, etc), but OCD and personal pride plays a major roll in all my builds. If you have the ability to make it look better, why not? Why settle for just functional when you can take a little pride in your work and do something exceptional?

Yes but seeing what Pako did really made me think of cleaning the wires a bit more. I did not say that I will but it really made me think of doing so. It is true as long as the case has no window you do not have to worry on how you organize the cables as long they are out of the way. Cable organization is just something I personally would like to have as a feature if possible.
 
I finally got rid of AVG's Secure Safe Search from my Firefox Browser, despite moving from AVG to Norton long ago, this Safe search has been a pain in the butt for so long! One file which was doing it I couldn't delete as I couldn't simply end the process as it wasn't in task manager. Turns out it was, just I had to show processes from all users. :) Finally! Oh, an I freed up about 2 or 3 GB from my hard drive.
 
Just ordered 2x 600GB WD Velociraptor Sata6 HDD :D:D:D
So tonight fitting the HDD and installing windows and games new.
Will be a long night.
@Pako, I will upload a few pictures tonight ;)
 
Spent an hour on the phone talking to AT&T trying to figure out why we weren't getting the upload speed we were promised. Turns out, they can't fix it from their end, and we're getting a technician sent out tomorrow afternoon to hopefully fix it. So tonight.. I have partially gimped internet. 12Mbps down and 0.89Mbps[Supposed to be 1.5] up.

Ordered a replacement keyboard for laptop repair on Thursday and got the laptop completely done just in a hour and 20 minutes just for replacing the keyboard and changing the thermal paste on the CPU. Another 45 minutes for software tweaks and now currently defragging the laptop's HDD.
 
Rebuilt my Server and did another 2 cheap builds to sell off, just gotta get an OS on them. NEEDS XP AND 7 CODES! (will not infect my rigs with Vista).
 
^^ Yes, I use it on most things. But the general public dosn't like it, especially when you're selling to Uni students. They userally complain about the command line stuff.

Umm...

A lot of programs need to be installed and run through the terminal, as the GUI isn't devloped for all programs.

I've only got 10.04 on a disk here, too lazy to redownload 700MB of OS and re-burn my disk.

That, and comparability is very poor, especially for Uni student that run programs for school work that only run on Windows or Mac. Unless they run it through wine, and they aren't all that bright here, and no where bright enough to port a program through Wine or dual boot with Windows and Linux... they just want to turn it on and use it.

Not technically true. I do have Fedora and Ubuntu here. In the earlier version, you would have to know how to use the command-line for quite of few programs. But now, that isn't the case as Ubuntu does things more GUI-friendly with their Synaptic Package manager which actually has most programs that you could really want, if you went in with an open mind.

The only time when you would need to use the command-line for Ubuntu nowadays is if you need a very specific installation that is only command-line friendly. One I can think of is Conky.

Ubuntu has changed to be more Mac and Windows like. But having said that, the command-line in Ubuntu is more accessible and powerful than Windows.

With uni students, you would be better off just giving them Windows XP as they'll just complain and make your life hell if you give them Linux versions.
 
Tried the whole weekend to get Windows7 installed on my Sata 3 RAID 0 array, and came to the conclusion that Marvell sucks.
Now back to Sata 2 with my Sata 3 discs :/
What a waste of time and money.

Some programs still do, like Ndiswrapper. Some programs also need to be installed via Sudo Apt-get install.

Obviously there are a few that need it. But if you're going to use the computer for non-technical stuff like browsing the internet, or writing word docs and excel spreadsheets, it'll feel about the same as a Mac would. Simple, and needing no brainpower to install anything you'll need.
