Thats a nice EG Civic! Spoon Replica or Real?

Edit: Actually forget this post, it's probably just a picture taken from the internet..

Quite late at night for me haha!

JDM is cars build in Japan. So basically, if those cars posted above were made in Japan, they are JDM.

Edit:

Japanese Domestic Market.

To be quite honest.....
No one really knows what it is.
I just always thought it had to do with drifters, and the North American racing scene.

With personally being part of `the JDM scene`, here`s an example to help illustrate it for you. :)

This is my daily car in bog standard uk (UKDM) spec, with standard UK rear lights.

This is my show car (during a full rebuild), with standard Japanese spec (JDM) rear lights.

Both cars are UK spec Nissan Almera GTis, but the green car is "JDM" because it`s got genuine Japanese spec parts fitted to it.

So, `JDM` is basically, non JDM spec cars retrofitted with genuine JDM parts.

However, the Accord posted above is NOT JDM, but your common UK `chav chariot` with all the in your face crap added to it, but because it`s a japanese car, it`s known as a "ricer".

I hope that helps explain things. :)

EDIT: To correct SVX`s post, it`s cars SOLD on the Japanese market, not specifically built in japan, as although my GTi`s were built in Japan, they were built to UK specs, so whilst techincally they are `Japanese cars`, they`re not Japanese Market cars, but UK market cars, so are UKDM, not JDM. ;)

Tastefully modified? Not all the time...infact, hardly any of the time - gotta have that fart can!

Suprisingly, the said Civic doesn't look half bad.

JDM is more like a style which mostly includes Japanese cars BUT it is possible to have a non Japanese car that is JDM. Example. An m3 can be JDM. JDM does literally stand for Japanese domestic market, but no one goes around saying a car is Japanese domestic market.

Massive body kits & eyelids with poor fitment are not tasteful

i'd say you fall more into the category of the accord i posted

Thanks for the comment , it all depends on taste ....i dont think anyone sees anything wrong in the picture , as the accord pic you can clearly see that the accord is not looking good.

Anyways what do you drive? A Ford Ka?

that STI is pretty, but the RX8 is riced out, if it has a huge kit that does absolutely nothing for performance/aero with the chicken wire behind it, yeah that's rice.

So in your mind a bodykit should add performance? :scared:

I ve got a Pettit Supercharger to deal with the power.

anything more than maybe a CF lip or something isn't considered JDM, that's all...what you have is considered rice, it's ok...brings balance to the universe.

To help you out abit more, the Civic is "JDM" but the Accord is "a ricer".

technically you are correct, when people outside Japan refer to JDM though they're talking about a certain style or look.

These guys have it all figured out 👍

This guy is a troll

Your facts are not straight at all

This guys in denial

This thread is going nowhere - if you are interested in educated debate, I recommend a trip to the Motoring Forum.

To me, JDM doesn't necessarily guarantee "tasteful modifications". Tastefulness being in the eye of the beholder, of course. Example, a "JDM style" BMW M3:

Continuing the JDM style on European cars, RAUH-Welt Porsches could be called JDM:

These all are technically JDM, but to me, JDM usually means performance cars like Skylines, STis, Evos and Type-R Hondas that were never sold much outside of Japan, or cars tuned my Japanese tuners such as Mine's, Spoon, Top Secret, etc. Despite being originally confined to the Japanese Domestic Market, such cars have gained a following around the world thanks in large part to - that's right - Gran Turismo.

Does this integra go into the JDM or ricer category? Lol
Stacey David on Gearz did something somewhat similar, but not so ridiculous it couldn't be driven. He stuffed a mild Ford 302 into a mid-90's Miata and dubbed it "Banshee".

It's a blown 454 big block and it drives, check the YouTube link. It is a little excessive but 10 point for effort lol
