So basicly I may sound like a noob but this will help clear up why PD cant put Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches and other cars into the game.
So now my question why can PD not put these cars other then liscense issues?
How can PD get a liscense for the manfactur? Do they have to pay money? I also would like to know why PD cant get a liscense while a company like "EA" can?

sUn
Electronic Arts has the licence to use there cars in a game.
Yeah I knew that but thanks anyways why cant PD get a liscense just like "EA"?
*EDIT* Is it because the manfactures do not like PD or something?

part of the agreement of the license is that the makers will not allow anyone else to use their product, therefore ideally increasing the exclusivity and desirability of their game.

edit: therefore, the makers have agreed to let no one else use their cars. They aren't allowed to, per the contract.

OH ok so this clears it up alot but how can people form PGR2 have ferraris and also at the same time NFS have ferraris?

EA own an exclusive license for Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren and Lamborghini. That means that only EA can use thoes cars in any of their games. When you see another game with thoes cars in like PGR, that usually means that Microsoft or whoever has apid EA a large sum of money to allow EA to share that license for that one product. EA will not share with PD since the GT series is the biggest cause of the NFS series lack of sales and change in direction. The Ferrari and Porsche licenses are said to expire in November this year, Lamorghinis already has as far as I'm aware and I don't know about McLaren's as the FINA inGT4:P is not licensed under McLaren, but BMW.

Developers bid for a licence ever so often when they come up for renewal.......if PD (for example) think its worth paying then they will bid the highest and maybe have a 3 or so year contract to do what they want with the vechiles of that manufacturer.........

However......sometimes manufacturers have multiple licences or none at all which allows many game developers to use certain cars......Mercedes is a good example of this, look how many games have merc's!!!

Sometimes manufacturers will PAY people like PD to include cars because it is good publicity and it may in the end help sell cars (GT1 helped open up the Japaniese car market to the west single handedly!......no one had ever heard of Subaru!)

Even though EA have the rights to Lambo, Ferarri, Porsche that doesn't stop PD getting their hands on a few!

I'l bet that PD have modelled loads of cars for these manufacturers for GT4 already.........they are just waiting to see the outcome of the licence bid comming up soon......and I recon EA will do anything to keep that licence!

There's a big fat guy on the door at Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche (it might be the same guy. He might be triplets though). The PD crew just can't squeeze past him. They tried kicking him in the shins once, but he picked Masaaki Goto up and threw him a full 30 feet.

Pity no-one told Subaru - who launched the Impreza Turbo in the UK in 1994 and created a McRae special edition in 1995 to commemorate his World Rally Championship that year. No-one told Toyota either, who'd already made the Corolla the best-selling car of all time a few years earlier.

However, the reverse is true - no-one outside the UK had particularly heard of TVR until GT1. TVR now export to Japan.

Porsche has to be in

To tell you the truth, I'll be expecting porsche to be in.

They are in :D ...........but not as we think!! .....they have been modeled and digitalized.....the physics have been done and the engine has been recorded.....I believe this to be true!!! now these lambos, ferarri's and porsche's are sitting in some hard drive in a PD computer in Japan un-badged and un-named........awaiting the November licence outcome!

I couldn't give a monkeys about Ferrari or Porsche.

An F40 or a 944 turbo would be nice, but bleh, give me a Lamborghini Countach.

Hopefully EA will free up the licenses now they've gone for the blatent cash-in F 'n' F approach.

I despise EA, ever since I heard that they bought up the "Lamborghini" game code and basically destroyed it, that thing was only 6 weeks from release apparantly too. Damn it Rage why you have to go under !?!!! :(

WHy cant PD make a car ALMOST the same as any of the ferrari or lambo or porsches models and then rename it something else change the settings just barely and put it in the game?

I think these exclusive licenses will be a thing of the past in a few years time.

Most of these deals were signed when car manufactuers did not really understand the marketing and promotional potential video games could have for their brand. They therefore sold them off cheaply to whoever stumped up the cash.

I'm sure Porsche and Ferrari are now desperate to be in the GT games.

How bout this: Why dont the car company's pay EA to share the licence with PD?
Huh good Idea but I bet EA is
A. Asking for a large amount of money.
or
B. EA is refusing to share.
BTW does anyone have an answer to this?

Because EA wouldn't accept the deal.

Also I totally agree with Jaguars comment, the day when companies like Ferrari would gve an exclusivelicese are over, the lenth of the liceses will be shorter as well now, I think EA signed Ferrari up for 5 years last time.

They basicaly did that with the Rufs. Next best thing to Porsches? Ruf.

And I don't think that PD would add a fake manufacter to the game (Ferreri?). I believe that they would rather add another company that would pay them to be in GT4.

You have a good point there it would destroy the quality of the GT series then.
SO instead they should put some tunners for mercedes and porsches other then RUF such aas techart and of course for BMW.

They could only add the Ruf's beause Ruf is not Porsche and does not tune Porsches, Ruf is a seperate car maker. They can't use Techart Porsches without a Porsche license or Koenig Ferrari's without a Ferrari license exept for the Koenig Evolution which is based on a 355 design but it's a Koenig not a Ferrari.

If they cant get the main manufacturers, yes they should put the tunning companies.

(hopefully this wont start another RUF explaination thread...)

edit:

well thats what you got :), you can't use a tuner without the licese for the cars they are tuning, for Ruf PD don't need a Porsche license as Ruf's are registered as Ruf's not Porsches, a Techart whatever is registered as the car that was tuned, not as a techart ect.

 I forgot about that now I rember ( read it somewhere in this site.) that RUF makes their own bodys and yada yada yada.....

Hmmn, well this gives much insight as to why PD doesn't have the license as of yet. I'm guessing that one of two things will happen that we should all be prepared for:

1- a major delay to finally implement the Ferrari's, Lamborgini's and Porsche's in the final code.
2- a major downloadable content package(s) that contain the above mentioned manufacturers.

Whelp', I'm ready!

We have already had a major delay of something like 12 months. Please dont start predicting more delays.
I dont wont to have to add downloads to my PS2 games. If I wanted downloadable add ons I would be playing PC games. I dont wont to have to add Hard drive systems etc.
How does Sony stop people with the new content from passing it to there friends via the memory card / Hard drive?

I'm guessing by November PD will have two nearly identical Gold discs ready to go. One will contain all the manufacturers we are expecting, without Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini. The second one will be the exact same as the first disc, but it will have Porsches, Ferraris, and Lambos implemented into the game. PD would send off the appropriate disc for replication pending the results of the licencing deal with EA.

But as stated in this thread, I think exclusive licencing is a thing of the past. Ferrari spokespeople have stated that they want their cars in GT, and KY has also stated a similar desire. I could not imagine Porsche and Lamborghini turning down an offer to be included in GT4 either. These are brands that thrive on their reputations as high performance vehicles, and the GT series would be perfect for them, as it would allow users to compare their vehicles against hundreds of other cars from around the world.

I also don't see another major delay comming, this could be the last major holiday season for the PS2, and Sony won't want to see one of it's most successful franchises miss the boat on this one.

I'm telling you all. Porsche will be in gt4. Someone can bookmark this thread and quote me. If I'm wrong, you can laugh at me lol but I seriously got a feeling porsche will be in!!! You see in the pics I posted the pd team is testing porsches and there's a mine modified porsche aswell!!!
