Tezzell:
Do you happen to have an update? I'm interested to see what you did run it in.
After our conversation on Friday, I put a few laps in and came up with this short essay, and description.
NSX Type S Zero.
Oil change, Waxing, and Super slicks.
VS.
NSX Type S Zero
Skyline Vspec 2 R32
Mazda RX-7 RZ
Supra RZ
Lancer Evo VII GSR
Qualifying:
I jumped in the NSX and took it for a qualifier. On my first lap I ran a 137.348. On cold tires. I think a few pointers may be in order for Tezzell. I was 1.088 faster than the other NSX. Shortly thereafter, the other NSX qualified with a 137.311. 0.037 faster than me.
Second qualifying lap was horrendous. Could barely keep the car on the road in the first section. Ran a 140.521
Third lap 138.722
Fourth and fifth lap were in the 138 range,
Lap 6 was 136.670
Lap 7 was 137.250
Lap 8 was my final qualifier. As I ran a 135.778. I did not take the pole, due to the best lap by the AI NSX was a 135.759. a Difference of 0.019.
The Line up looked like this:
NSX Type Zero: 135.759 (AI)
NSX Type Zero: 135.778 (Me)
Supra RZ: 140.342
Mazda RX-7 RZ: 141.188
Skyline Vspec 2 R32: 141.673
Lancer Evo VII GSR: 142.784
The Skyline and the NSX are both running a five lap pit strategy. I believe you can run a 10-12 lap schedule with out much trouble.
Hints
The Tire squeal is a dead giveaway. If your tires are squealing, youre losing speed. When the cars are this closely powered, any drop in speed is significant. With a 28 second advantage every 10 laps, and even powered cars, any dip in lap times can be a problem.
Breakdown
I ran the first section Hills in 4th gear, slowing and down shifting to third to enter the First tunnel. I dropped another gear to second to exit the tunnel. Always trying to keep the engine revd high. After hanging the right hander around the Rock out crop, I was back up in third gear and accelerating hard towards the second tunnel. I sometimes would have to shift back down to second gear for a moment after this next right hand bend. Enter the tunnel in third gear, taking a moment to stab the brakes. Full throttle into the third tunnel, and move up through the gears along the flat, and up over the hill. I would shift down as far as second for the green monster. Kicking the backend out slightly really helped in taking this corner. Moving back up through 3rd gear to the top of the hill. This next corner, a right hander, is a tricky one. A split second before peaking the hill, you need to stab the brakes, hit full right lock, and smoothly get back on the accelerator. Brake the backend loose in taking the next left hander at the bottom of the hill. The sooner you get the NSX to accelerate out of this corner the better. As it is tantamount for your run across the finish and into your next lap. Smooth through the Free jack chicane, and cross the finish line. You want to cross the finish line in the middle of the track, as you should work towards the track from left to right, from the Freejack chicane, to just before the first corner in the hills.
I didn't have time to race the enduro, but I hope this info helps. This is one race, that I'll do after reaching 100%. In about two-three months. (Currently standing at 87.9%)
