I rented that while ago. I liked it much more than the remake, "The Jackal".I've just ordered "the day of the Jackal" for ÂŁ3.
When it arrives, or after you've watched it? I'm looking forward to your review.I'll let you know what I think of it in the DVD reviews thread when it arrives.
It was pretty spendy, wasn't it? I think I saw it on deepdiscountdvd.com for around $40. I have the original Criterion Collection print(with the coolest cover! 👍 ), and they did quite a restoration job on the original reel. Did you own this original DVD copy by any chance? On Thursday I got The 3 Disc Criterion Collection Seven Samurai. Very good it is too with an enhanced picture (the film spread on two discs because of its length and the increased bit-rate of the playback), a sperate DVD of interviews, documentaries etc and a booklet with essays and info. Packaged very nicely with photos and designs from the film. Very worthwhile purchase of a classic movie.
The PQ is improved, though I never had the previous Criterion Seven Samurai. On a few scenes you can still see very bad scratches etc. But in general it has the best PQ I've ever seen of this film. The sound has been worked on too and is very good, even giving a pseudo-stereo track which works fairly well.It was pretty spendy, wasn't it? I think I saw it on deepdiscountdvd.com for around $40. I don't know how valuable the additionally enhanced picture is, considering the age of the film, but added contents like interviews and documentaries sounds very enticing. I might have to get it.
Used copy of "Dark Water" for $2.50(booya!). I'm gonna write up a review in a appropriate thread.
