What Phone Do You Have?

I'm jealous of that 8830. I've been considering a switch to a BlackBerry from my RAZR for a while, but it has also been dependent on me buying an Eee PC or not. But now that I've got to buy a car, that may have to be put on hold too...

We'll see. My first opportunity to trade-in comes next month, I may just go with the Palm Centro.

I'd assume your service is with Sprint right? When you say first opportunity do you mean for the $75 off or the full $150?

In my personal opinion, I'd pass on the Centro. The price point on it is great, it's not a bad overall device. But the phone is very tiny, the keys are even smaller (meaning it's a pain in the ass to type on), bad stylus, and it just feels cheap because of the materials they used to build it. Not to mention Palm's aging OS that we're all waiting for them to get rid of since they've been working on it for who knows how long.

The Blackberry speaks for itself, it's a wonderful device. I can't say I've had a single problem with it. If you're kinda putting off buying a new phone until later, there is a CDMA version of the Curve that will be carried by Sprint this year supposedly. There's already test handsets out which generally means that the actual device launch is a few months off. So that will throw another option in there for you.

Sprint FTW, I wouldn't have it any other way. Now that they have that $10 unlimited text anyone on any service plan deal, my friends are kicking themselves for sticking with Verizon...

And it is the $75 kickback, not the full $150. I've had a hard time even finding the 8830 nearby, but I haven't been looking very hard either.

We'll see. I don't really need a new phone, I just want something different so I can stay connected with friends more easily than with the damn RAZR. I don't text, but having the email/IM client would be nice for school.

I've had Sprint since I moved back to the states (around 2001). You're already pre-set up with IM clients on the Centro, but you're able to download them all for the Blackberry too. AIM, Yahoo, Google, MSN, etc. and you get the added bonus of Blackberry Messenger with the 8830. At the moment the BB's don't have Documents to Go like the Centro's but there is a press release on blackberry.com that states it's coming in an update around spring along with HTML email support which should be awesome.

Factor in with the Blackberries that you will be paying $30 a month for the data pack that replaces any text or data plan you currently have as it includes unlimited internet, GPS and text messaging. Centro you've got a little bit of an option with it but most people are paying $10-15 for the unlimited text (depending on the plan) and at least $15 for the internet already so the straight $30 data plan isn't that big of a deal. However since you don't text you'll probably come out cheaper per month with the Centro.

At the moment, it really isn't incredibly economical to pick one up from Sprint with just a $75. For the Palm you're looking at $325 with a renewed contract and the Blackberry is going to run you $475 not even including tax. At this point you're better off hitting up craigslist or eBay to pick one up since you'll be looking at around $250-300 for the 8830 and probably in the $200 range for a Centro.

I don't know if you have it or not, but if you don't have insurance on your account and are not eligible for an upgrade yet, corporate repair stores have pre-owned phones you can look at getting. They're marked 50% off which puts you at either $200 on a Centro or $275 on an 8830 with a renewed contract.

I'm actually typing this on my new blackberry 7130e.it's actually pretty nice for an older model- I wanted a phone / PDA and this was relatively cheap.GTP mobile is claustrophbic but very handy.

Haha, well that's gonna take some practice.

It's not a rumor any more xD

What is that? By the way, I am really loving having the internet on my phone. Brilliant.

LG Rumor (cu515), from Sprint. I'm hoping after my last year is up with them I can kick Sprint to the ground and activate it on Verizon since they are "opening" their service to outside phones.

As for the internet on my phone the only reason I refuse to use it is because I ain't paying for it. My Touch works just as well especially since it has a way bigger screen. Then there's killing your batt and not being able to use the phone part. lol

I gotta say though, after having a FULL keyboard and not feeling like a retard every time I have to send a message I find txting addicting and actually fun. I don't think I can ever go back to a regular cell phone.

I've got an iPhone now, it's great for texts and browsing the web, as all iphone contracts on O2 have unlimited web, and it looks gorgeous. Only downside is that the headphone jack is recessed, so I can't use my better headphones yet until I make/find a new adapter, but the phone satisfies all my needs when it comes to phones.

:D Welcome to the club! You can buy a $15 Belkin headphone adapter from the Apple store. I havn't used it personally, but its got good reviews. 👍

Blackberry 8100 (Pearl) with iPhone wannabe theme... great all-round phone, it's great for emails, texting and the usual phone functions. Although, the GUI can be very sluggish at times.

I'm stuck on my crummy V625 still. Part of me wants to just buy another u740 off the internets, but I've heard rumors of an iPhone coming to Verizon this summer, so I'm waiting.

Though, anyone know a good alternate on Verizon to the u740 thats roughly the same size and nice for texting?

iPhone on Verizon? They are still CDMA right? Unless they changed to GSM, don't get your hopes up.

Well, Apple went to Verizon at first with the iPhone, so they may have a CDMA one planned out already. Verizon just didn't think it would be so successful, from what I read, and I imagine they are regretting that. Apple can only profit from getting it on Verizon, as VZW is the other huge cellular company.

But just waiting till June time or so to see what happens, unless there is another slick phone for Verizon (not sold on the Voyager yet, the multi touch iPhone just beats it in my mind)

... so they may have a CDMA one planned out already....

Don't forget about Sprint too. But the thing is, they've got this little bugger dropping this summer for $299:

...I'm considering the switch the Instinct, but the thing is, they've got Windows 6.1 coming on the MotoQ too. And thats a fair bit cheaper...

Got a 8800 Arte recently. I miss the sound quality of my old 6233 but otherwise it's lovely. This phone isn't made for listening to music through the speaker on full volume anyway...

New phone friday! I'm apparently the first person in Southern Illinois to have a Samsung Glyde. I'm loving it so far after ditching my Q.

Its so nice to be back to using a regular phone. The Q wasn't really cutting it for me anymore with its slow menus and quirks. Also +1 for touch screen.

So after running around with one of these POS phones

Which meant I switched to one of these for a full 2 days...

I wanted to update my info from my earlier post about my HTC 6800.

Alltel released a ROM upgrade in April, and although it wiped the phone, requiring me to reload all my apps and reconfigure my sync with Exchange at work, it fixed EVERYTHING it was doing wrong. Bluetooth is perfect, the phone doesn't lock, have not had a single issue since the upgrade.

Phone rocks now that Bluetooth works!

HTC Touch had a similar upgrade about the same time.

And as for hacks, found a GPS hack that enables the built-in receiver, but it's S-L-O-W to aquire an initial fix, sometimes even 15 minutes! Google Maps Mobile or Delorme Street Atlas with built-in GPS is the #$#@ though! Also, it's not for the faint of heart.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is the "Touch Diamond," correct?

LG VX8350, pretty nice little phone that suits my needs (Um, calling people?)

Just got an iPhone 3G. No problems, no glitches, no freezups, etc. The best phone I have had to date, by far. Kinda big, but it makes up with all the features it includes. I live in a 3G area, and the extra speed is helpful and a big bonus as well.

Hitman.
