I've come to terms with the boost. I would prefer it didn't exist, but I don't find it too disturbing. It can help to inject some competition back into a race, both when I'm behind or in front.

The only thing that is disturbing, is the mystifying nature of the way it works - I still don't really understand what the hell's going on with it: what exactly does it effect, when exactly does it kick in & when does it stop etc, which tends to undermine the integrity of all the driving.

If you never retaliate then you don't take racing seriously enough

If they couldn't pass the license tests or they just lost patience with it, they'd just download a game save anyway. There'd need to be some sort of online-only (not part of your game save) racing-specific test to pass, rather than the driving-oriented license tests we're seen in previous games. How to pass, when to pass, how to brake/corner when aside of another driver, etc.

If you never retaliate then you don't take racing seriously enough

Too true 👍 Bustin' doors is part of racing for sure. I do think sometimes people forget that. All classes do it. Well not so much in open-wheel, that's just suicide...:scared: But for sure, you have to knock 'em back it they knock you.

Delete # 1 poll, the Lotus, and there you go, all the other things mess the game online.

I`d have to say it`s the idiots who out there just for kicks and enter a race for the sole purpose of driving like a knob to take out anyone they can and that includes driving in the oppisite direction to everyone else :ouch:

Really missing the lack of race replays though. I understand the enormity of the task...

I don't see any difference between online and arcade races with regards replays. It's all just telemetry at the end of the day. PS3 may have to tween any packets dropped because of laaaaag but it would still be a lot smoother than a lagged out game because, by replay time, it would know both before and after postitions whereas live races it only sees the before postitions and makes some wierd predictions which seem to be based more on star trek than motorsports.

How ironic. I would have said that retaliating is a sign of something taking it too seriously, this is a game first and foremost and the aim is to have fun, winning should never take priority over that. This applies to all games for me, not just racing games.
Yes, I can and do take my racing seriously, however, I am able to take a step back sometimes and not let myself get in over my head over the most trivial of accidents or allow myself to get frustrated by idiots.

Retaliating is a sign of the frustration getting to you and that is not a good thing.

You seem to think that perhaps retaliating will teach someone a lesson? Absolute rubbish, we aren't there to teach people a lesson, we are there to have fun and to win, surely beating someone fair and square is a greater lesson than showing your frustration?

Whatever, most of you clearly aren't going to change your mind no matter what I say, so I'm not going to bother arguing this anymore.
However, I am no less of a racer than you just because I prefer to prove my worth through actual skill rather than my determination to win and punish.

So the rest of us are out their just to win and punish?? Fire with fire is the name of the game, we dont prejudge most of us, we don't punt back people if there's any doubt about their intentions. We treat a racer with the same respect as we'd like, e.g. someone on Suzuka hits me in the rear on a braking zone, fine, i let it fly and carry on. someone pulls across on the straight on Daytona to hit me off. How do i then go and beat them through skill when i'm not certainly out the running as the nature of the track is so ruthless on that.

I don't hit back to win, and i don't go out of my way to retaliate 99.9% of the time, but if i come back to them again and they don't give me room when i have it, i'll gladly hold my line and let them try block me to wreck their own race to.

To say we don't prove out worth through skill, is highly offensive to me, how do you skillfully pass someone through slipstream slingshotting, if they pull across and hit you?

I don't have much ramming troubles but that comment struck a nerve, i voted private lobbies.

Racers that immediately pull off of the track just to get free credits. Idiots. It seems to maximize the rubber band effect for everyone else (usually punters) and makes the race terrible when they can catch up so easily. What's the fun in even having the game if you don't actually use it for what it's designed to do?

With the way that console racing game replays have traditionally worked (and I have no reason to believe this is any different for GT5 than any other games), replay data is kept by storing control inputs per frame. The replay is created by actually rerunning the race, using the stored control inputs to control the players car, and the AI just reruns to control AI cars. Given the way that pseudo-random number generators work, this will always produce the same results (assuming there isn't a bug getting out of sequence here or there due to a dropped frame).

Split screen, and even LAN games can work the exact same way. As long as the data is frame-locked, it's easy to store and reproduce the results.

However, networked play requires an entirely different method for storing and replaying the data, and even something as simple as "fixing" the lag spikes will change the positions of the cars, causing small differences in collision calculations, which will cascade. Add to this that storing per-frame telemetry will necessarily take more space than control inputs, and you've got a significant problem to solve.

They'll solve it eventually, but it's definitely not an easy problem and will require an entirely new replay engine.

I'm guessing you've never snapped a controller in two pieces while playing... correct? Pulled the cord out of the controller? What about ripping the game from the PS2 and snapping it in half? :scared:

I bow to your control.... Do you offer classes perhaps??

I once missed beating Mission 34 in GT4 by 1/2 seconds. I threw the controller on the floor. It exploded.

In short, the GT series is not good for rage issues and blood pressure.

This is a racing sim, and when it comes to simulation games people like me take it very seriously because it's suppose to be a simulation of racing which means the racing is suppose to resemble real life racing.

If you can't drive the simulation correctly and you constantly run into other cars you need to step out of cockpit and move on to Need For Speed or Burnout. Consistant punters DO NOT belong in simulation motor racing games. If these drivers dared to race that way in a PC sim like NASCAR 2003 they wouldn't last a day as they would be banned from server after server.

You are allowed to be slow or aggressive, but you ARE NOT allowed to destroy the races of others in simulation motor racing games by lacking the skill to hold a line and pass or be passed correctly. Practice offline vs the AI until you're ready for online.

The only reason why these drivers exist in the simulation of Gran Turismo is that PD allows them to exist to keep sells up.

Again, when people like me buy a racing simulation game we expect simulation style racing, not crash fests like you have now.

Gran Turismo is not a game to people like me, it is a simulator.

There is a difference between a trivial, or small accident, and someone who hits you 3-4 times throughout a race until he eventually spins you or someone who really doesn't give a flying flip if he hits you or not and tries to dive bomb you on every corner, essentially treating a living breathing human like a stupid AI car.

If I catch up to him, I'm going to put him in the wall. If this game didn't sell it's soul to the mainstream gamer these guys would be banned from online events or they would have a poor LPI (laps per incident from NR2003) that would keep them from racing vs clean racers.

Retaliating is a sign of the frustration getting to you and that is not a good thing.

What's wrong with getting frustrated? I want proper simulation style racing and when bird brains drive around in 4WD cars like it's Burnout Paradise and show ZERO respect for their competitors by plowing through them why should I not get frustrated?

My favorite racing franchise which prides itself as great racing simulator is having it's online mode pillaged by hapless fools who think anything and everything goes online.

As someone else said eye for and eye. If you're going to shove me in the wall or put me in the sand trap when you already hit me on several occassions and it's obvious it wasn't an accident but careless driving then I will return the deed.

Retaliate or not they're going to be the same idiot the next race and the race after that. The only thing that can change these people is to bring them to justice. AKA BANNING

I love to win, yes, but I have also had great races where I finished 2nd, 3rd or 4th. I don't have to win to have a fun race.

I DO NOT like having my time wasted by a goof who doesn't flinch one bit when he runs you off the road.

I'm spending 10, 15 minutes of my time running a race and if he thinks it's OK to throw all my time out the window by pulling a stupid, careless move and wrecking me then by all means I WILL punish him if I get to his car again.

It would be different if these people showed they were sorry by waiting for you or sending you a message via PSN but they don't, they're merciless assassins who only care about winning. That's why I have NO mercy for them.

Online ruins online. I'm starting to form the opinion that GT5P has to worst online multiplayer system, bar none.

It is absolutely the worst driving multiplayer I've played in a longtime. Sorry, but I don't mean to sound like I'm trashing the game, but sh#t, it blows. :ouch:

No. Need For Speed: Carbon did, in my opinion. The connections were so bad, cars would be airborne, driving SIDEWAYS. And remember, it's a prologue. It's not going to be perfect or even close to perfect.

I agree that Prologue's online is far from good, but we all just have to deal with it. But all of us whining about how bad online mode is will not make the fall update come any faster.

At least we have fellow GTP members and organized races to make it better. At least with GTP, you know it's going to be clean and competitive. Imagine going on Prologue alone with no idea whether you would get a good race or be stuck with moronic punters. I would quit. You would quit. It would be no fun at all.

Fall is slowly approaching on the calendar. When the update arrives, I'm sure we will all find something new to complain about. I respect all of you, but please, it's bad and it's not going away. We just have to deal with it.

It's 31c in Ontario....Fall? 👍

Well until they fix it, I'm gonna bitch about it. I'm not gonna break any controllers or anything, like you say it's not the final version. HURRY UP!!! :)

Errr.., and this doesn't happen in Prologue just way more extrem? The lagging wasn't that bad in nfsc and at least it was eazy to beat the noobs, even with their nos cheats enabled :) the online was almost perfect( rooms, chat, options ) imo!
Online ruins online.
LOL exactly!
get rid of pp and boost and only the best drivers will succeed, not videogamers who seek for the next glitch all the time 👍

My cable company screwed up something and I'm on their 'lite' plan meaning I'm getting like 768kb instead of my 5mb connection. So I'm on the Superspeedway, on what I can only describe as HELL. I get stuck in races where everyone is from the US, sometimes there are one or two CA's in there. Most times there are 12 - 15 racers. Every single driver in these races will ram you first chance they get. I have not found a clean driver yet.

No one in these races is obviously trying to win so it's a big crash fest...There is no driving around these idiots, the lag is so bad you can't tell where anyone is going half the time so it makes passing just about impossible. 👍

I've given up and am spinning out everyone I come up on. Most of them are rammers, they don't know how to subtly lift the back-end and get someone loose in a corner....or tip out the rear-end. But the cars are flipping around so frantically it's hard to do anyway.....

Thanks Cogeco. Bastards! 👍 So I guess that would be stupid drivers with bad connections? LOL - I still can't express strongly enough how sh#t I think the online play is with this game!

I know how you feel, it was 97f (~36c) here in Virginia today plus humidity. I guess the heat got to me :dopey:.

Yes, online is terrible. I got punted tonight by some loser in an Evo X three times in one race. The fall update can't come fast enough.

Then again, fall can't come fast enough anyway; can't wait for the heat wave to go away! :yuck:
