In my opinion its the boost handicap. This might as well be scripted wrestling if you're going to have a boost handicap so strong you can make up 5 seconds in a little over a lap or less.

Because of this all the drivers at a track like High Speed ring are caught in one big street fight. The talented drivers can't break away and the win is usually up to chance, not skill

edit: Forgot to add PD is using Xbox 360 style laggy peer to peer for online, another minus

Lack of private rooms. If there were private rooms, it would get rid of the rammers, and possibaly solve some issues people are having with the pp system.

As much as I want to put "no private rooms" I can't because, boosting the guys in the back of the pack so they can catch up to the front of the pack is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. So I voted for stupid boosting.

Yeah the lack of private rooms for me too.

I can't wait to be able to hook with racers from here instead of it being pot luck who you end up racing.

How can you even say this when there is a BOOSTER in this game?. If you had to choose between the 2 wich one would you choose? private rooms? thats a joke.

How could racing online be any good if the top 5 or so are running with a stupid handicap to make there car harder to drive or slower. And the guys behind you all of a sudden have an extra 100HP. Thats retarded.

Shouldn't no voice chat be in the poll? Also, the ability to join a friend in a room. This is different than a private room. It can be a public room, but you should be able to see who's in it and/or join a friend by seeing which room they are currently in and join.

Calm down love

I've won plenty of races on line from being on pole or just plain old over taking from 3rd 4th 5th and pulling away.

And before you jump to any conclusion NO I was not and have not driven the Elise to do so .

Private room and ban list will solve 100% of the online issue, conduct wise.

I played about 200+ hours of Forza 2 and although it won't solve 100% of the issues, it will definitely help. Many rooms would kick people who didn't have headsets, just because they suspected them of being bad drivers before they even raced. In the beginning racing online with Forza and even Forza 2 there were a lot of irresponsible drivers, but it calms down as the community builds. Many people don't understand the generally accepted rules of overtaking either, so that takes a while. Offline AI drivers don't scream at you when you steal their line. Most online drivers need to learn who owns the line and who doesn't. It will take a little while.

Voice and rooms with a host (doesn't have to be a private room, just a room with a host public or private, who can kick drivers) should do a pretty good job of calming things down. Right now people feel very anonymous in Prologue races online, because they don't know anyone and there is no voice. Sometimes hitting someone can be an honest mistake. With voice chat you can immediately apologize and continue. Without voice chat it can escalate, which is a mess.

If PD can add voice chat with a patch and give the ability for a host to kick drivers, it will help a ton. It's never perfect though, because most of your racing will be with people you don't know, since it's always hard to get a full room of just friends. Especially if you want a bigger race of 12-16 etc.

I would also hope that if there were private rooms, then boost could be turned off by the host. This would solve that problem.

Private rooms.

This current random join nonsense is useless. I've got plenty over 100 hours of Forza 2 online racing under my belt, and that system seemed to work quite well enough for console online gaming.

I'm not a fan of people using you as their brakes. I've done five races online today and four of them I was used as a brake in the first corner and lost the race of that.

Private rooms will come (most likely before GT5 full-version) for sure...

BUT

..the removal of the DISADVANTAGE/SLOWDOWN effect (I did a research on it and it isnt a boost..) online and offline is not for sure.

i hate people who try and ram you off the road . they even try and do it when your on the other side of the track . and also hosts who quit just as your about 2 finish the race so u dont get any money or win

As it standsGT5:P online is built for the casual player.

Choose a track and car and the game will automatically put you in a measly 3 minute race with 'catch up' turned on and very little penalty for wreckless driving.

It's impossible for a good driver to shine consistantly with the current settings because the current settings are meant to give the casuals a chance.

All the problems listed in the poll are very serious and online won't be quite right unless they are all fixed.

However I'm still shaking my head concerning PD's decision to use laggy peer to peer networking for online. What happens if in the future we're running an endurance race and the host loses his connection?

They could do like in Forza, the hosting gets handed over to the next player in the list (the one who has the second fastest connection) who also becomes the admin of the room.

I want to buy Prologue today, but I'm going to hold out for Gamefly to deliver (hopefully soon dammit! :). I'd have bought today except 99% of my time is online, so these issues are very important to me. It's pushed Prologue into rental status for now until they're patched.

I didn't know about the 3 minute race thing until you mentioned it... In Forza rooms were generally set to 3 or 5 laps by the host (there were occaisionally 10 t0 75 laps races however). I preferred the 5 lap rooms, because you could take your time moving up if you got stuck in the back on a grid. Races tended to be cleaner with 5 laps vs 3, because everyone wasn't in a rush and better drivers typically moved to the front in 5 laps. Short races were a bit too rushed.

Since the average track was 1:30 or so, that meant a 7 1/2 minute race +/-. Are all the races 3 minutes in Prologue or is that an exaggeration? How are the races setup? Are there many 7-10 minute race choices? Are there any? Thanks! :)

You oviously don't browse these forums much or no much about the game do you?. Trying using the search button in the forums.

16 players about 3 laps of wrecking......

What ever happened to standing starts, and endurance races? nevermind endurance races. Normal races 10+ laps.

Come on, what did I do to you to deserve your insult? :grumpy: I'd like to participate more on this forum, but not if I'm going to get insulted for asking a reasonable question. Show me the search string, that easily leads me to the answer?

Be more specific in your response. Is every race 16 players unless the host doesn't have a strong enough connection? I know there aren't private rooms, so you choose online races from a list. How many choices are there? Are all the online races 3 laps or are some more/less than 3 laps? I don't think the average person, who doesn't own the game could answer that question. I'm sure a search would take quite a bit of time reading through post after post to find the answer.

The boost is the killer here. The other issues are hampering the experience as well, but nothing like giving slower racers an unfair advantage over raw skill.

What do you guys mean by boosting? Do they not take into account tunings or horsepowers online?

So far the biggest issue with me is being rammed into from behind, and pinned against walls.......someday ill get a win, SOMEDAY

Maybe it's just me, but it seems to me that PD has clearly not played a single online racing game at all or have any proper experience with playing one.

If any single relevant person at PD would spend say 20 to 30 hours of playing Forza Motorsport 2 online, they would've realised what they need to fix/implement in their own game. And I don't mean necessarily copy what Forza 2 has because that one is not perfect either. There are several things wrong with Forza online as well:

- no balancing of cars (Elise 135R, 300ZX, a lot of american muscle cars, Saleen S7, Ferrari F50 GT, these cars dominate all of the classes, esp. the muscle cars)
- no qualifying
- doesn't let you repair aero/body damage at pit stop (would be used in the Full GT5 I suppose)

And the catch up thing is plain ridiculous. A online racing simulation like Gran Turismo should learn from what Forza is doing online and hopefully at least match it or better it, not implement stuff that makes it useless online.

Gran Turismo IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN on it's own platform. They will fix what is needed to be fixed accordingly. This is THE FIRST TIME the series went online so one can EXPECT for it not to be "PERFECT".

Keep in mind that the PS3 offers FREEEEEEEE online play with all its games, while the XBOX360 costs money to play online, which is why their online experience is just GREAT.

I have faith in Polyphony Digital that they will come through and meet expectations!! I'm actually GLAD that Prologue is just a "beta version" rather than the real deal. Honestly, what can you expect from a DEMO? If anything, GT5P has to be thee most "awesome-est", detailed, and competitive demo ever created!! :sly:

To get back on topic, I voted for private rooms. 💡 I also don't like the inability to choose your tire for online races. I preferably like to oversteer through corners, and that's not an easy task with high grip rears...

Also, I don't understand when and why cars become transparent? If anything, they should just leave the cars like that so that there's no "rear ending" to slow down for a corner...

*Crosses fingers* All I can hope for is that there are more and more UPDATES to improve the online gameplay. 👍
