Hours and hours of awesome driving fun and great online (if you don't get DC'd) ruined by a trip to the hospital for strep throat after yelling at the idiotic AI for several hours straight.
Oh, and fantastic free DLC every month, usually with a new feature or two.

Single player:

Awful AI, easy races, a big grind, really.

Multiplayer:

Trolls, kids, cops and cruise lobbies.

Multiplayer, but in a GTP club:

Some of the most fun you'll ever have in a racing game.

1. amazing looking cars but some have been breeding to much(Mx5 & Rx7)

2.amazing tracks (but could do with some more original GT track my view, midfield race way, Paris, Smokey Mountain etc)

3. Ignorance,
4. Trolls,
5. Kids that think thy know everything
6. Lots of unanswered questions (why is the AI so slow? why he no sound like real car, sound like 2ltr flat 4, not big V12?)

Well I'm just waiting on the download/installation of updates

.................might take awhile....
Enjoy the game, bud. Be careful when buying ya second car (ya first ride IS Honda Fit whether you like it or not).

You will experience MANY mixed feelings, on some days you'll hate the game, on others you'll love it.

Great driving experience quite possibly the best there is but the game itself is a complete train wreck.
I would only expect GT to be the best driving experience there is if you have no experience with PC sims and don't really understand how real cars work. Expect a lot of cars and a lot of tracks, a career mode that is suitable for children not experienced gamers and an online experience that leaves a lot to be desired. GT is a game where you have to find a way to make your own fun, it does a very poor job of creating a thrilling, racing, car ownership type of environment. Basically if you like lots of content it's a great buy. Oh and don't expect a complete game. The most anticipated feature by far the Course Maker, has yet to arrive.

couldn't agree more, Come from Race07 to GT6 and i still think Race07 is a better game for racing and out right feel. Its not as good looking but thats not what Sim racers like race07 are about.

If you were a fan of the earlier GTs 1 - 4, expect to find your favorite elements of the series missing or minimised.

I'm convinced they deliberately crippled the single-player game in GT6 to get people to play online more often.

It can be an enjoyable game, but the focus has changed a lot imo.

Expect to run right out to buy a PS4 with a Project CARS pre-order.

Just kidding.

As others have said, expect to love parts of the game, hate others and find yet others simply perplexing. GT6 isn't really a sim in all aspects, nor is it arcade. It's somewhere between and PD has not nailed the mix. It is incomplete and would feel like it even to someone who wasn't aware of what is specifically missing (track editor, B-Spec, etc). It just feels like a work in progress, which is what it actually is. As Adamaw11 said, the focus seems to have changed. It's funny, because there is more to this game than some of the older installments, but it's a different, shallower kind of more. IMHO, GT4 is still the pinnacle of the series. That game felt like the player was a car owner travelling the world to race his/her collection of cars. GT6 feels like an arcade game with more realistic handling.

1. Amazing-looking cars, but some have been breeding too much. (Mx5, Rx7, Skyline. Pretty much all of the Japanese cars have been breeding too much.)

I fixed that for you.

It's no where near the best driving experience, I'm a convert from GT6 to Assetto Corsa and there is no comparison. GT6 is arcade like but has a lot of cars, that's about it.

I just got a pretty good deal on a PS3 that came with 10 games one of them being GT5. Thanks to the loads of info here on GTPlanet I was able to find some great settings for my CSR, how the clutch worked and also that I'm going to really have to grind to build up some credits. This is basically my first real experience with a GT game( I played a little of GT3 A-Spec on the PS2, but I suck so bad with a controller it was hard for me to enjoy it)

I thought I would look into GT6 since its the most recent, but after reading this I might be better off just sticking with GT5. I don't play online much, but I was hoping the single player might be a little less of a grind fest on GT6.

Thanks for all the info.

I think the OP is confused now

Me? I'm not the OP, this thread was pretty informative for me and I just thought I would tell my story here.

Nope, was talking about the OP.

In order for me to answer I'd need to understand more about what you own level of skill and experience is in simulation gaming as well as your own personal goals of what you wish to achieve.

GT5 and GT6 offline are both a grind. Only if you can suspend reality and aren't a very good driver and neuter your car dramatically, can you find the offline racing fun. Rubber banding ruins the illusion of racing once you realize the lead car is actually slowing down to let you catch up. It's designed for beginners and beginners only.

Online is the only decent racing in GT and it's hit and miss both in terms of connectivity and finding a group to race with that matches your schedule, races the car/tire combinations you enjoy, and is clean.

IMO the GT series is mainly a hotlapping/TT type of game, it really is a "driving simulator" as it says on the box, not a "racing simulator" like many like to believe. If you like lots of cars and tracks and like to run around alone, it's a great experience.

Eh there's lots to do in gt5 but IMO without online I got pretty bored of it since I completed almost everything and the UCD sucks a**

Lol I'm the OP and I'm not confused I've been playing GT6 for almost 2 weeks and I simply love it I really enjoyed the Sierra time rally aswell and I hated the S-5 license trial the bugatti can't turn to save its life -_- other than that it's a great game

The Veyron is actually a fantastic car in a straight line and in the corners, it's the lack of FFB in GT that makes the car feel like it's dead in the corners. Fastest street car in the game by a substantial margin at Laguna Seca on CH tires and you can't be fast on CH tires at Laguna without a lot of grip in the corners.

This pretty much sums up my experience with GT6. That last paragraph especially... I had never touched a Gran Turismo title before GT6, nor am I a gamer of any other type. I almost NEVER go into the Online Lobby unless I just feel like doing laps on the 'Ring and playing cat & mouse with a friend. I refuse to waste an hour going in and out of public rooms looking for people who act older than 9 years old.

I just haven't had the time to join a proper race league and while a small group of friends have invited me to race with them every Saturday, all of a sudden my schedule has changed and I haven't been available at that particular time. So, to me, GT6 is just something to drive around and either hot lap by myself or compete in weekly Seasonal Events. That's it.

I love being able to take any of my 200+ cars out, tweak them as I see fit and drive around for a couple of hours. It's fun. But this isn't what I thought GT6 would be like when I bought it one year ago. And thank God I found GTPlanet, otherwise I would have given up on the game back in April 2014. It wasn't until I started getting involved with the weekly Seasonal Event threads that I actually started having fun with the game.

There's a lot of negativity in this community along with a lot of helpful information. Not everyone has a rotten opinion of GT6, as is shown in the Praising thread at https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/the-gt6-epic-praising-and-crying-tears-of-joy-thread.300306/

Before you give up on GT6, take a read. I have both GT5 and GT6, and have not played GT5 for a long while, just because I'm busy enough with "6". Neither is perfect, but they are both a lot of fun in their different ways.

You're right @GBO Possum, there definitely is a lot of negativity on these forum pages. Re-reading my post, I see that I probably come off as being very negative toward GT6. Honestly, I do love the game. If I didn't, I would not still be playing 6-7 days every week. I think there are some definite flaws in the game and I think PD misled us on a few things, but overall, I still get a lot of enjoyment from tearing around these virtual racetracks in cars that I lust after in real life. It's a blast!

Funny that you put it that way because that is like the only reason I play. That, and playing around tuning cars with PD's arcade style tuning which one has to implement due to their various programming flaws. :sly:  Honestly, if it wasn't for my Academy goals, I'd have moved on completely by now. I much prefer GAS for more realistic offline racing....totally awesome AI with great offline (career mode) racing.
