a6m5: Not a Camry either. I can spot that generation a mile away in heavy fog.

Oh, before anyone says it, it's not a Cressida either.

It's one of two........either a Nissan Cedric, or a Toyota Crown. Both were full size cars that kicked ass as lux cars, but were never imported west of the pond (USA) :sly:

G.T It isn't what you posted, at least not exactly. My reasoning being the lights on the 1st pic are a block and 2 bars. Your 'I think it is...' pic only has bars.

Alright. It's driving me nuts though! G.T, why couldn't you be a better photographer!! :D

A Crown looks a lot like a Cedric, and neither of them look like whatever that thing is.

Cool site, huh? They've got one for Skylines too.

Yeah dude, thanks for the link,i have been going nuts trying to find something like that :scared:

STILL,if you look closely,it can't be but one of the them!!!!!

And remember, toyota and Nissan, did slight changes on their tail lights from year to year, and this picture, puts it very close to that one :)

*scratches head*
that definetly looks like a Mitsu diamonds cluster.
it looks vaguely like a Corida/Terida...but for some reason, it reminds me of a Starion (US name) as well.
oh, we didn't get actuall mitsubishi labeled cars in the US untill 89. before that, we had a clone of Mitsu's "cyborg" in the US for Dodge/Plymouth as Colt ( forget the regular car's name)

It's definitely not a Starion. The car in the photo is a sedan. Also, I'm pretty sure, U.S. was getting Mitsubishi badged cars before '89. :)

The number plate is Q378 CAV, which I'm pretty sure would mean it's an old personal import.

Q plates are restricted to those cars with no known origin - the original documentation has been lost, or it's a kit car or similar.

It doesn't look like a personal import, since the car has a UK-shape registration plate in an appropriate, lit recess.

However, Q378CAV and Q378GAV return no results.

Yet again, a GTP member is on the receiving end of a Faminated schooling!

What?! How can you reference the Starion then say that?!

Mitsubishi's first US model year was 1983, when they debuted five vehicles - Montero, Pickup, Tredia, Cordia, and Starion. Montero was sold until 2005; now it's called Endeavor. Pickup's name was changed in 1988 to Mighty Max, which was cancelled in 1996 after the federal government threatened to bring huge fines against Mitsubishi for not complying with any federally-mandated safety guidelines (forget airbags - Mighty Maxes didn't have OBD or three-point seat belts either). A new Mitsubishi pickup, the Raider, is set to debut in 2006 based on the Dodge Dakota. Tredia from 1983 to 1988 at which point it was replaced by Galant (in 1989) which continues to this day in its fourth (and best) generation. Cordia was also sold from 1983 to 1988 and was replaced in 1989 by the Mirage, whose name was changed in 2002 to Lancer. Technically the vehicle therefore continues today, but Tredia was strictly a 3-door hatchback whereas there are no Lancer hatches. Starion had a troubled history - its last year was 1989 and of course in 1991 the follow-up 3000GT came out, only to die in 1999.

Original Mitsubishis were indeed badged as Chryslers - I wrote a really long history of Mitsubishi and Chrysler 1982-present somewhere - but Mitsubishi broke into the market in 1983. Even then though they had a lot of failed ventures with Chrysler - I still consider the Mitsubishi Montero-sourced Dodge Raider the second-worst SUV ever built.

Wouldn't it have just been easier to pull along side and ask then? :p
You should have seen the guy driving it. I would run a mile away if I had to talk to him.

 You can't spot the typo? It's clearly meant to say "Cordia was strictly a 3-door hatchback ..." since that sentence was talking about the Cordia and I had already addressed the Tredia, where I said that it was a 4-door sedan. Don't say **** like "I'm sorry but you are wrong" when it's so obviously a simple typing mistake - if it's an actual error, then you can give me crap for it.

oooh ,did I hit a nerve??
CHILL OUT before you bust a vein :sly:

M5: my catalogs and listings have the actual Mitsu labeled cars starting in 89.
and I believe the "mirage" was imported by CC since the 60's
oh, and I saw my first Hyundai's before I saw a mitsubishi. the first Mitsu I saw on a regular basis was in the original Gran Turismo. now that I'm back out on the road, you wouldn't believe the crap I see on the road. I've seen at least a dozen Kia Amantis lately.

Let me put it this way. My (American)'88 used car guide had pages of Mitsubishis in it.
