I have a 20 RCA with a sony surround system with DTS and Dolby Digital. It sounds awesome, Also good for watching DVD's like the fast and the furious when it comes out on DVD.

I hate to admit it Redneck but i too remember when an 8-track was at the top of technology.
       I stopped getting older.I stopped having b-days.lol

I have a 32 Tv dts surround Mirage speaker system and a 10`` BA sub.  I dont have my PS2 hooked up to the s-video but i got the dvd hooked up.

I've got a video projector I lifted from a local pawn shop and I'm projecting it on the side of a broken down bus in the ghetto part of town.  For audio, I've got full surround sound thanks to the 6 lane expressway nearby.  Talk about being in the game.  I'm powering this entire entertainment system off a 12 volt car battery I stole from a yellow volvo sitting outside a 7-11 down the street.

you might think this is overkill, but it is also my primary a/v system
A. pioneer 50in plazma tv model #mdv550dp
B. hughes HDTV converter box
C. sony strv-777es 5.1 dts reciver  (110watts x5)
D. adcom 800 watt monoblock amp (bridged x5)
E.  martin logan mythos main speakers
F. martin logan stylos rear speakers
G. MK 14 in sub with active reflex

also running sony dvd player and sony 400 disc changer

all wire is monster cable pro series
audio is all optical, video is all composite x/yb/r

i do have a question though and that is the real reason i posted .... I have been told that it is possible to convert the video signal from the ps2 to where it will run in 1080i format and yes it is running through my Hdtv box and i have adjusted it through the on-screen menu..... any help would be appericated

by the way I do suggest the logitec steering wheel. but if you sit more than 6 feet away from your tv your gonna need to buy a usb extension cable and in most cases an extension cord to plug in the wheel

46 Rear Projection Screen Mitsubishi
Sound is provided by NAD Componant system with 2 mono-blocked 200 W/channel amps providing a total of 400 Watts to each of the main Speakers ( Klipsch KG 4.5's) These are backed up by some thunderous bass produced by an Energy 12 powered Sub-Woofer putting out  700 Watts and set off nicely with a Klipsch surround sound center and rear's powered and decoded by a Denon Prologic decoder. with 120 Watts to the center channel and 60 watts going to the rears

Up all night 'til the morning light,
mixing up a screwdriver at a 1/4 past five.
Revs from my car are humming out loud,
with cheers in my head from the grandstand crowds.
Banging my head trying to get all gold,
Just to find out the prize is a stinking pink Vitz...SOLD!

Toshiba 32, PS2 (S-Video, optical audio), Pioneer DD/DTS Receiver (509?), Pioneer DVD (333 w component out and coax digital audio), Pioneer CD Recorder (optical audio in/out), Pioneer CD, Pioneer Dual Cassette, Pioneer Turntable/8-Track (just kidding), Sony Floor-Standing Front Spkrs, Paradigm Center/Surr Spkrs. And it's all crammed in room that's WAY too small for it! I have to sit about 4' from the screen...

We have a Sony 35 Trinitron TV, Kenwood VR-2090 Dolby Digital 5.1/DTS reciever, Infinity speakers all the way around (RS3s, CC3, etc), and a 15 Kenwood powered subwoofer.

GT3 ROCKS on our setup :)

Hate to sound like this is a status thing.... but here i what I have...

Nice thing is you can move the PS2 around but my favorite spot is with a Philips XGA Video Projector at around 100-120 inches in screen diameter.  Large screens really add to the realism.

I have a Yamaha 5280 for digital sound and this receiver offers a 5.1 virtual mode for stereo or even pro-logic sources adding to the realism.  Many receivers have this now as it will be more official with Dolby Pro-Logic II standards start appearing.  Sound affects are applified even better directional echos are apparent.  But GT3 really needs a stereo setup for any kind of decent sound. ( Using it with headphones is great too - stereo of course)

I want to get the logitech wheel and go for ultimate realism but for now i have the VX3 which is not bad.

Sony puts the video output specs as follows for the PS2...
(at least this is what he sony rep said)

Regular cables for video

240-400 lines depending on your TV

up to 700 lines with SVHS connector

up to 1100 lines with componet connector

Maybe that VGA Box ( they claim componet level quality at around 1100 lines) will be even better but when the HD kit domes out Sony will have an RGB (computer monitor 15 pin VGA) which will allow you to use it on your computer monitor and should be even better than componet connectors and great with the projector.

Hope you found this useful.

Onkyo TXDS787 7.1 A/V Receiver.
2 Infinty IL60 500w 12 Powered Towers.
4 Infinty IL10 Rear Surround Bookshelves.
An Infinity IL36C Center Channel.

All hooked up with top of the line Monster Cable line conditioning systems and A/V cables.

Viewed on a Sony 32 XBR (soon to be a 57 HDTV XBR)

I'm also using the Logitech GT3 wheel mounted on a Recaro driving racing seat.

you can get 1080I with component, but the ps2 cannot put out a resolution greater than 480i right now, since it only puts out a regular component video signal compatible with every tv able to accept it. So 480 lines of resolution is the max the ps2 can put out now with component. The cables can go higher, the unit cannot. And as for upconverting the output to 1080i, yes you can, just go spend about $20000 on a faroujda video processor <some are cheaper.. not much> and you can play in 1080i. Or you can spend a bit less on a sony HS or XBR450 monitor and it will upconvert it to 960i...
Commends on the HTR-5280.. its a great receiver capable of 6.1 matrix <dontcha wish it was REAL 6.1 thou?> ... pushing 110watts of .. lets say when u rev that shelby cobra, u feel all of its v8 power.. inside and outside the house.

This is my setup as follows:
Sony 36 HS <no not XBR... what, do i need 3:2 pulldown for ps2 too?> HDTV
Pioneer Elite VSX-39TX DD, DTS, 7.1 receiver THX Ultra certified, 120x5
Outboard Elite 120 x 2 amp for 7.1 surrounds THX Ultra
Toshiba SD-5109 Progressive Scan DVD player
Polk Dual 12 650watt Subwoofer front
Polk 10 250 watt subwoofer rear
Polk RT-20 Dual 8 250 watt towers <powered, pair>
Polk CS-1000 Dual 50watt powerd Center
Polk Rx1000 Dipole/Bipole Surround speakers side
Polk Rx500 EX Dipole/Bipole Rears
Panasonic DVD audio player
RCA SVHS Commercial Grade VCR
Monster Power HTS-5000 Line conditioner
Monster Silver Series Svideo Cables
Monster Silver Series Component Video Cables
Monster Silver Series Digital Coaxial Cables
Monster Silver Series Toslink <Optical Digital> Cables
Monster THX 5.1 cables for dvd audio
Monster Power Sub Power center for both subs
Monster Silver Series 2.4 Bi-wire speakers for Front L/C/R Speakers
Monster Silver Series 1.4 for rears
Basically i used all monster cable on everything <thank God for accomodations, i'd never pay full price lol>
Oh and the PS2 i have hooked up with a digital toslink and the monster game 400 <component video>.
This tv has 2 component video, perfect for this setup <no HDTV here yet... so no box>
It upconverts everything it can to 960i so GT3 looks awesomely.. clear on here.. no lines whatso ever. There are a few motion artifacts when the speed tops 260 but its barely noticable.
The sound is great, but too bad GT3 isnt encoded in surround sound.... Xbox has it killed in that it can do Dolby Digital <certified> in real time and output in real 1080i format... PS2 would use all its processing power just to do sound if it could do that...
Even so this is the best damn game to come out so far.. best grafx i've ever seen, and even better if u got an hdtv with 16:9 capability. **** i wanna see what it looks like on that 50 plasma that dude has... I'll just wait for that one... <yeah right.. $20,000>
All i can say is if u got the system.. HOOK IT UP..
and Cables DO MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE

Well, i have no clue how much inch but I know it's 50CM ( I think that's about 26).
Don't really have stereo on my TV but hey, in 'bout 5 months I'm gonna live on my own, money enough to buy a 50 with some Surround System. But by that time, I'll have the XboX and my PS2 will end up in the attic !!

BTW: Does anybody know if there is a chance that GranTurismo will come out on the XboX ???

nguyendot,

Damn you beat me to it, setting ccman straight on those lines of resolution that is.  I think the Sony rep is on something.

Pretty sick set up you're running there, mind if I ask where you work?  Just curious Because I know of only major national retailer that carrys Monster Cable and Polk Audio equipment........

Which by the way if anyone is interested I have a Polk RT1000 series home theater speaker system for sale with Monster Cables  Drop me a line.

i pray somebody reads this, i got the digi optical running into my tuner sony ES edition that is hooked to 6 jamo surrounds form hollond and then i got teh visuals held down with a 40 inch sony and one 10 in jamo sub, system cost:      $3000

Road Ralley,

yeah it's a wicked setup, but i only got the interconnects from my store <well not really, i got them directly from monstercable.. its cheaper than the store discount.> and i got the speakers from a place called Sight N' Sound which cut me a huge deal since we order so much, cept the center and sub which i got from crutchfield, who also cut me a huge deal cause we order from them all the time too. The tv is from Best Buy where i work.. =)..
Hell no i'd never work at that place that carries Polk and Monster... *cough* Circuit City *cough*. They have horrible salesmen and the atmosphere wreaks of commissioned sales.
I work at best buy for the discount, where i also got GT3, and the 60% discount off monster cables.
Yeah just cause a cable is capable of x lines of resolution, doesn't mean the hardware can put out that much, nor the television able to accept it. All NTSC standard tv's <non-hdtv> are only capable of accepting 525 lines of resolution <15.25khz i think, somewhere around there> at 60fps interlaced. 45 of those lines are overscan, leaving 480 lines interlaced to be displayed. But being interlaced, only 240 lines are ever on the screen at once, they just flash them 60 times a second, with 2 frames showing every 1/30 second, to make it seem like 480 lines.
Those cables can transmit much more but nothing puts out more than NTSC, except an HDTV or progressive scan <480p> source via component video. To date nothing puts out more than 480i over svideo. The only thing i can think of is a VGA box for the ps2 which could put out a 1080i signal that plasma and certain hdtvs can accept, which would be a truly awesome sight, but seeing as how GT3 was specifically made for a vga box, who knows if it will help?
I would love to get an HDTV crt Projector along with a DVDO Iscan Pro to upconvert it to 480p giving you a seamless picture without any jaggie edges evident with the less than perfect antialiasing on the PS2.
That'd give the ultimate driving experience, cause u could make the screen on the wall the same size as the cars would be in real life, and get the USB Logitech wheel for the ultimate experience.
I know i dont work at a high-end place, but sh** the discount worx hehe, and i pride myself in having more knoweledge than i'll ever use in that store.. and its fun.. where else can u get paid to sit around all day talking to people and playing with audio/video products?
Anywho, if you can, hook up your PS2 to and HDTV monitor <preferably 16:9, or 16:9 mode>, and you'll get a great 480p <or whatever it upconverts to> picture. That pioneer plasma should upconvert to 1080P which is gonna be the best picture out there right now.
The silver series monster cables are the reference cables of my choice <and price>, not for every tv or audio system. They definitely would help anything look better, but any svideo or component video cable is better than that piece of sh** cable that comes in the box with the ps2.. there is so much dot crawl that the text is almost unbearable to read, and the cars look less realistic than you see in the commercials.
Svideo and Component video bypass the comb filter, which is usually the weak link on most tv's, and gives u that crisp image possible on most tubes, regardless you'll never get more than 480i from the ps2 itself..
Anywho, enough rambling, off to play some more gt3, neighbors gonna be knockin on the door again...
lol

I play on a 40 inch hitatchi...it's the largest picture tube television ever made!  Picture tubes are so much better than projection tv's .  The only down side is this thing is soooo heavy!  It takes 3 people to move it!  I have a surrond sound stereo system that I put the audio to.  I also have the madcatz S video jack!  I agree S video is much better...My directv has S video too.

oh yeah!  It's not the size of the tv that matters....It's wether or not u have the PS2 and GT3....I would play it on a black and white 12 if I had too!

It's not the larges tube ever made, mitsubishi made a 42 incher u know, my friend down in dallas has it, takes 3 pplz to move it too. And i'll bet you a 56 Sony XBR HDTV or pioneer Elite 58 widescreen HDTV would have 4x the resolution and clarity of your tube. Oh and those large tubes have to be placed on the north or south side of a room so they dont have interference from the magnetic poles of the earth.  Svideo is nice, Component is better. Upconversion makes the picture quite a bit better as well.. which only and hdtv can do... and your 40 incher cannot.
Oh, and size of the tv does matter.. GT3 was intended to be the most realistic car game of all time, and in order to get the most realism you must have the most realistic picture/sound.. And the bigger, the better, cause its closer to the actual size of the cars in real life. As well, color generally makes a difference, on a 12 b&w tv gt3 isnt gonna be any better than gt2 or gt1 cept for analog 100% control.
I'll agree thou, my HiScan Tube is unmatched in clarity by a rear projector since its HDTV AND a tube.
