I have two favorites: Focus RS with all driving aids off, and a set of N2 tires. And the Mini Cooper S fitted with some RSS. Loads of fun. :)

I like the Mazda Kusabi concept. Yes, it's rather weird. But its crazy fast, has tons of torque and doesn't weigh anything.

^--What an idiot... Go back to your mustang..

Sorry moron, don't drive a Mustang, or anything domestic.

240Z Turbo
300ZX Turbo
ACURA LEGEND LS

What do you drive? Let me guess, a hopped up 4 banger with a fart cannon and APC stickers? Honda 4Lyfe yo! Werd.

FWD are terrible for anything performance oriented. Simple as that. Read above and shut your mouth riceboy.

Ibiza Cupra is alright, A112 Abarth is cool, too. I only have 3 ff's in ma garage, and I can't remember the third one. Not a big fan, but there they are.

Wow, really know how to read messages huh? If you had read above, you wouldve seen where i said "I drive an Integra"

But i am talking to someone that thinks they are a "drifter" And if you wanna talk about high performance? Why would you drive a 240, or a 300zx? sell both of those and buy yourself a Supra..

And as far as FWD cars not handling good? Look into the 96-01 US Integra Type-r, also look at the new 06+ Civic Si.. both fwd..

Jesus, you 240 owners have the same mentality as the domestic crowd...

Frontwheel Drive... BAD
HUGE displacement ... GOOD

Go "drift" into oncoming traffic would ya?

Children, knock it off, before I knock it off for you.

And sorry, but I've got about a dozen friends who run SCCA Club Racing who are going to have to disagree with your statement that FWD is "terrible for anything performance oriented".

240Z's and 300ZX's are amazing cars... a 300ZX could keep up with a Supra.

 u cant say FF and good handling in the same sentence without stopping and thinking about it. but in any event, i love the spoon civic and integra.

1. Micra Race Car (Light as a feather, and even 100 some horsepower is enough for this petite little monster.)
2. Audi A2 1.4 (Perkiest looking Audi EVER. And it's pretty darn fast for what it puts out.)
3. Mk. V Golf GTI (Fast, albeit a little heavy.)

98Acura -

You've officially made the moron list. Nothing unusual for an Integra driver.

Its a 240Z, not 240SX. I DON'T drift. I didn't say FWD cars don't handle well. EVER. I said they get **** for traction. They aren't designed to handle anything over 300hp. Built FWD cars are terrible to drive. Read above for the listed reasons why.

If you can retort with something factual or anything of substance for that matter, go for it.

Let me show you how it works. 2400lbs 240Z. L28ET. 5K in mods. 350rwhp. Runs 11s. Oh, and the only traction issues I get are when I drop the clutch at 5K :) Notice the DRs.

Like I said, unless you've got something worth reading, IE - WHY FWD could possible be better, or even EQUAL to RWD/AWD... let me know. Otherwise, get lost. You've yet to make a good point.

It would be helpful if everyone remembered the Terms of Service for GTPlanet at this point. Like this bit:

ToS
No personal attacks on other members will be tolerated. If you question someone, it must be done in a reasonable and semi-friendly manner. Violating this rule will be grounds for suspension and/or permanent removal from the board.

If someone doesn't agree with you, it doesn't necessarily make them a moron, for instance. Calling them a moron because they don't agree with you is not a "reasonable and semi-friendly manner".

I'm not aiming this message at any particular one member, so if you think it's you please don't respond with "But he started it...". If you think my message applies you then you've already broken the ToS, so your position isn't exactly defensible.

As Duke said earlier in the thread, before he was ignored:

Duke
Children, knock it off, before I knock it off for you.

Sorry to have to point this out but in the wide and wonderfully world of motorsport many documented cases of FWD cars beating RWD and AWD cars have occured.

When the Bathurst 24hrs last ran in 2003, the group E class (Production Cars under $90,000) was won by a Celica, with its sister car taking second. The majority of the group e class being made up of RWD cars. The class was also controlled by a PTW limit being put in place, ensuring the cars ran on an equal footing.

The British Touring Car Championship runs with a mix of mainly FWD cars, but with some RWD cars thrown in as well. The dominant car last year? The Integra Type R, in fact the BTTC has over the years run with a wide mix of drive types, yet FWD has never proven to be the issue you suggest, even when outputs easily topped 300 bhp during the Super Touring days of the '90s.

The world of Rallying is also a classic example, and also contains the most famous example of all.

When this

Beat the entire field, including these

V9s16.jpg

So that would be a little 997cc FWD Mini beating a 4,727 c.c RWD Ford Falcon. In one of the single toughest races at the time. Plus the Ford's were part of a major works backed effort with almost no expense spared. The Minis on the other hand were effectively stock cars as the factory had little money to spend on the race.

And the above is just off the top of my head.

Now while I would not disagree that in theory FWD is an inferior (performance) layout to other drivetrains. To say that it will alway be inferior is simply not true. It depends on the car, its design and to a large degree how the drive makes use of the car.

BTW @ALL - Sorry for the off-topic nature of this post, but I wanted to address the above point. I would however firmly re-enforce the points made by both Famine and Duke, ans as I am sure they will be doing, I will be keeping an eye on this thread. So play nice.

this is a difficult one .. I have a lot of favourite FF hatches (Fiat Coupe Turbo Plus , Honda CRX , Peugeot 106 Rallye , Vw Lupo Cup Car , Vw Golf I GTI , Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0 V6 , Mitsubishi FTO )

but because I love this car for it's great handling and looks (and own it's ancestor , the Renault 5 Gt Turbo:sly: ) it will be the Renault Clio RS 2.0 ... 👍

Because I'm not going to get sucked into looking like some punk trying to start **** on an internet forum, lets clarify that in my two posts I made a reference to 98Acura, regaurding him as a moron. On the record I was told to drift into traffic, called an idiot, etc. I've remained level headed and argued with facts and logic.

Now for the rebutle.

While there may be archived wins of FWD vs RWD, look at the cars in quesiton. You're taking a featherweight Mini and putting it against a tank. Had it been two cars, equal weight and power, one being FWD the other RWD, (whether it have been two Falcons or two Minis), the RWD would have a performance advantage.

My disdain for FWD cars and my posts are related to street driven cars, IN REAL LIFE. Seeing that most of the cars in Gran Turismo are production cars, and references were made to my cars, and 98Acuras', I think its only fair to point out the MAJOR downfalls of a high powered FWD car in a real world situation.

The biggest problem of the people that drive these "hot hatches" are only a handful have over 250 horses to the wheels. They don't expirience any of these aformentioned problems.

Another problem is most people on here have no expirience with anything over 250 horses, regaurdless of the car. They live in a Gran Turismo world, where everything is reliable, equal (as far as car feel, I mean its a damn video game) and tuning is as simple as "Click, Install."

I personally have driven a Mopar stage III SRT, and it spins the wheels through third gear. The driver, as most all boosted FWD drivers, has the "Lets run from a roll, because my car gets no traction, is impossible to launch, and has to be babied off the line."

Now if we're talking about a lexan windowed, 10 point caged, fully gutted race car on slicks, I don't care if its a Honda Civic or a Porsche GT3. Its going to handle better than anything you can buy off the showroom floor. It should. You have thousands in modifications.

So which would you take for road racing? Full built Miata, or Civic? Why are there a handful of expensive RWD converted Civics, Integras, etc? Has anyone in history ever converted a Z, Supra, Mustang, RX7, etc into FWD configuration?

Think about it people. This drivetrain was originated to provide roomier interiors. Look through history when all the major auto companys went FWD. Their performance cars stayed RWD. People making references to Minis, Integras, etc - these cars are winning not because of the way they lay down power or because its better balanced or a better car - its because its light. Had these cars been RWD, they would perform EVEN better.

When it comes to which drivetrain is prefered for longevity, reliability, and ability, RWD and AWD win. Clearly. Like I've said before, there is a reason there are no exotic or high horsepower FWD in production, and never has been.

Okay, while I do agree with S30T, I believe we're getting off topic here... :sly:

Maybe you should continue this on the FF VS FR page. Well anyway, My favorite's the Honda EG HB, because it's the one I'm buying when I've saved enough! :)

And no, S30T, I am not going to race it, or even imply that it will go faster than an FR, but it is my favorite cute looking hatchback, and that's exactly what this thread was for... :sly:

Peace!👍 👍

I'm not trying to sucker you into anything and to a degree resent the charge.

Its an opposing viewpoint, if you don't like them then I would strongly recomend thinking twice before posting your own thoughts.

In my reply I clearly stated that I agreed with the theory that from a performance standpoint RWD is superiour to FWD, I was pointing out that in the world of motorsport exceptions have occured. You're point about the Mini vs Falcon is also not strictly valid either as the Falcon still had a massively superior PTW ratio, also you seem to have ignored the Bathurst 24hr result in which the class 'e' cars were very closely matched.

Its quite strange that you seem to have taken offence to someone who on the whole was agreeing with your statement (but not the attitude with which it is delivered) and pointing out a few exceptions.

Additionally you need to recall that in a thread titled "Whats you favorite FF Hatch in your garage" you posted with little more that distain and arrogance as to why all fans of FWD cars are wrong.

Before you sit and attempt to defend them, give me your Civic Nation bull****, or expell your ricer mentality, think about this:

Did you really post the above and think that it would not come across as arrogant and insulting?

As someone who has driven a huge number of excellent FWD cars (and I would strongly advice checking my profile before you cast doubt on my experience with the automotive world) I found it to be so. Thats not to say that the tone and comments used in the replies was justified, it was not and that was adressed. However to claim that you remained level headed and argued with facts and logic. is a bit wide of the mark with some of the insults you threw back.

Were FWD cars ever designed with performance in mind? No certainly not, but quite a number have reached a level of performance and strength that the hunble origins would not have indicated possiable. Also a few have silenced RWD & AWD cars of similar PTW over the years.

You may not like them (which would raise the question of why you posted in this thread other than to cause trouble), but they have added to the diversity and all round experience of motoring and it would need a very closed mind to deny that (or a lack of experience of really good ones).

If you wish to discuss the relative merits of differing drive-train layouts I strongly suggest that you take it to the Automtive forums, a quick search will reveal that its a much discussed subject, read those threads and if you feel you have something to add then add it to those.

In the mean time what Famine, Duke and I have now all said stands. Keep this thread on topic or it will get locked.

I kinda like the Suzuki Lapin thingy, slow at first, but when fully modified, it's a bomb waiting to explode!

In no particular order,

1. Golf GTi Mk V.

2. Renault Clio 172.

3. Mini Cooper S.

Lol...What about the Civic Type R Ek.,..thats the best handling hatch in the game..and you can put the displacement up in that car..is the best!!

My favoritve FF hatch has to be the VW Golf I GTI '76. After that it's my Autobianchi Abarth '79, and my VW Golf V GTI '07.

Civic Type R
nice sound, lots of revs, great handling, good speed, good looking

Seat Panda?

Uh-huh.

For me the favourite FF hatch would be the Renaultsport Clio 2.0 or the Megane 2.0

karras85
my crx...
it could beat all the best cars (like mercedes slr600, nardo w12 and others...)
the situation is controled...
racing super soft tires...
and only one lap....
but is a little monster...

Huh?

You lost me.

my fav FF haatch is probably the Honda Civic Type R (EK). Mine is a little beast with 453 hp. then it is probaly the renault Clio V6 phase2

The Focus RS would be fantastic, if it got grip.
but since it doesnt, I'll take the '01 Civic Type R EP
(shifts so much faster than '04)
this is alos partially due to the lack of a 1.8T 180HP '03 Golf GTI, as I'm a fan of those too.

noobie 4 ever

Only one slight problem with that, the Clio V6 is a mid engined rear wheel drive car, doesn't realy qualify in a favorite FF hatch thread. LOL
