Just got a new chair yesterday. I can now concentrate more on throttle controll and steering input. So tonight when I get home ill hit the time trials again. For reference of what I was going through while driving please see this link. I **** you not it felt like this at times while driving in my crappy desk chair.

ugh i just need to shave down my cape ring time and i will be within the top 128... sitting at 310 in west right now, 1:06.8 on tsukuba, 1:22.7 on rome, and 2:52 on cape ring.

I was in your shoes (basically same times) when I began this thing a week ago. I carefully studied what the top guys were doing ( in terms of replays, ghosts, and youtube vids). and did my own version of the bungie mod to my pedals. The bungie mod and moving from a 200 degree wheel to a 900 made a big difference in controlling the vehicle.

I've been able to bring myself down to 88th in the West. My current downfall is all the hairpin turns. I still lack consistency in putting the car in position for a properly composed slide to not lose momentum and hitting the apex properly. Wish I started this at the beginning, then maybe I'd be good at it by now :)

And referring to kidloco's post, ergonomics does make a big difference in how well you drive. If I make it to round 2, I'm going to dedicate some time to making myself a legitimate play seat.

Hi everyone. I'm from the UK so i cant enter but i would like to know what the restrictions are regarding assists? Is skid recovery forced off? Anything else that might influence times i should know about? Thanks

Top times are done with ABS:1, everything else off. You can't even turn on skid recovery.

ranked 28th, 20th, and 90-something in three events (west region) as of right now. Definitely have time to take out of all 3 tracks (especially cape) but I just started playing again after giving it a rest for the past 2 weeks.

Oh yes, Skid Recovery is forced off. There would literally be no point to running a competition where someone can put on "driver cruise control." :)

Last night I tried trail braking with SRF on just for fun (outside the academy of course). It was a disaster but worth the entertainment :D Oh and then I tried drifting :dopey:

I know it's not as impressive as some of you guys, but I'm sitting at 330 over all now and pushing. I hope to be in the top 128 by the end of tomorrow. Cap is killing me. i have at least 5 second to shave.

My ranking... way worse than I'll admit to and I should be.

I just can't put it together out there... guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Don't give up, you have plenty of time to make it to round two, just focus on a fast exit and keep control of the car, you should be fine. :)

Decided to eek out a bit more time as more folks are putting up times ahead of me. Only got back up to 11th in the West and 39th for all regions.

Still, I'm glad I was able to improve my times so much over time. The times I struggled to achieve in December are now the times I can regularly run today.

I am currently in the 130's overall in the West, just need to make up less than a sec. to make it to Round 2.

If I can make it to Round 2, I'll be a happy camper. :)

Up to 55th in the SE overall. Im trying to crack the top 200 nationally. Think i should have it by the end of the weekend.

I'm sitting two positions behind you, nationally.

About that: Yesterday my wife had taken over the TV and I spent all that time writing code. I checked the forum and leaderboards during breaks, and watched my position erode while a few people put in better times.

About eight hours ago, I was ranked 239th nationally; as of right now, I'm ranked 236th.

I swear that this has happened a few times (my position went up instead of down, when I wasn't driving). Are laps or users being invalidated by someone or something?

My guess is that this is due to the leaderboard refreshing its data from a central location overnight, rather than updating from individual times, and there's a bug somewhere in the updating code. But that's just a guess. Does anyone actually know?

Hey Lord Grey, Yeah i noticed our times on all 3 tracks are pretty close. I just got up to 48th yesterday in the SE and exactly one spot in front of u in the SE. Im working on Rome. Not sure if i will run allot today or not but i know i can shave off another few tenths there. I may also go back to the Cape. Just tough to put a whoile lap together at the Cape.

Im looking forward to see how we do in the next round. Good luck, Lord Grey

Two days ago I decided to try Rome again. The time I had posted for that track was the result of only three hours of driving. I felt that I could improve on that easily, but no dice. Maybe I'll try again today or tomorrow.

Good luck to you as well, zr1chris! It will certainly be interesting to see how we fare next round. Whatever happens, I'm having a blast.

im 1600 overall with a ds3... how much easier is this game with a wheel b/c i cant shave off anymore time with the dam controller

There are a couple of forum topics on just that:

How much time can a wheel shave off?

From 6axis to DFGT: My experience

The rules state that the round in Florida will be using wheels, so if you make it all the way there with a controller then you'll be at a disadvantage.

As far as shaving time.... I think it depends on what you're used to. If you drive IRL then the wheel will almost certainly help. But even if you don't, I think a wheel is much more natural device to controlling a car and it should help regardless.

+1 another thing to remember is that a steering wheel is much more precise. You are able to input much smaller instructions both with the pedals and with the steering.

4th, by 0.001s (2nd in Northeast). Managed a 2:45.006 today (with a previously blown 2:44.7 or .8 - had a nice sector 2 time of 1:24.8xx, but finished 2:45.09x), then I stopped to watch the Patriots get embarrassed by the Jets...👎

With Hunk's 1:21.0 at Rome he seems out of reach for the time being - I hope he enjoys the 4th Playseat 👍 Great driving.

That leaves 7 days and a 3 horse race for the last playseat...although some later entries (z06fun) could also make a run.

I haven't touched Rome in over a week or Tsukuba in over 2 weeks. If I can finally land a solid 2:44, I'll look to shave off at least a tenth at both comfort tire tracks...but no promises.

Got up to 44th in the SE by shaving off .2 at Rome. :D

Scratch that - 3rd now.

I am satisfied with my Cape Ring time, so it's time to move on to the other tracks that I've been neglecting over the last 2 weeks.
