when did the T/C come back when on grass?

This gets extremely irritating for me. I was doing Group GT3 championship in a 700 hp C6 Race Car (because I'm stupid like that) and I TOUCHED (really, touched) the grass on the edge of Suzuka. I spun into the grass (which was odd considering I wasn't really going very fast) and the TC basically handcuffed me. I was trying to crawl out of the grass at 16 km/h. REALLY PD? REALLY? I honestly can't see why they would do this, I set my TC to 0 in the menu for a reason!

ok, /rant

No. It's been like that since day one. I first noticed it a while back when driving in Bathurst, right bellow the dog food add.

I would love to see this removed, but I wouldn't be surprised if its simply here to stay for the sake of regulating time trials and GT academy.

An option to at least turn this feature off online would be great.

If it hadn't been for traction control it would probably have gone slower. Slicks spinning on grass is no good for friction. The TC when going off track is probably meant as an aid to help you get back on track, so that's a reason why they have it.

I noticed this in GT5 as well but with both modes- real/normal- in which the tires going over speed bumps at Le Sarthe will be affected by the TC. I always thought it was the wheels just spinning in the air, however like the OP shows, it happens in dirt, sand, and gravel. It sounds as if the car is getting bogged down as it will go to a high RPM and then slow instantly. However, on the gas long enough it will catch speed and drive out.

It's not the fact that I would have to have gone slower. I would like to control my throttle for myself. The throttle bar was at 1/10 its full capacity, so I couldn't have gone any slower than that

It's not always so much of an aid, either. When transitioning from from a minor off-track to back on the instant cut-off of the traction control frequently leads to more spinning as you must readjust your throttle, which you often don't do until you've slid a little off-track again, meaning now the traction control comes back on, which then you have to counteract, until you get back on track and your wheels instantly start spinning again...

It should just be an option, period. No assists should be no assists.

The way I see it tc offroad is there simply to keep people from cutting track. Same with forced walls on Monza and Nurburgring chicanes, and sticky walls. They seem to put a lot of effort into keeping players driving on tarmak. The problem with that is that it's not working in this case. If you are cutting track, couple of seconds of forced TC will be irrelevant to gain you'll get.
On other hand it's very annoying at times when you make a mistake and try to get to track as soon as possible.

I hate it. You have to lift off as soon as your back on the black stuff otherwise you spin out because you've got your foot down, wasting even more time. 99% of the time I could do it faster and easier by myself. It wasn't like this on release, I remember thinking how happy I was that they got rid of it. I think it came with 1.02.

Also it is TC I'd say, not SRF. SRF doesn't limit your power, it just magically removes instability and wheelspin, whereas TC limits your throttle input.

if anyone thinks that's how cars really behave on gravel and grass, they need to drive down a gravel road. hell, go drive one of the gravel tracks. they aren't perfect but they are pretty close.

Hear, hear. I also want to be in control at all times.

it's reallllly annoying when trying to drift. want to slide about though the runoff? NOPE TC.
the places I noticed this the most is the run off before the finish at Tskuba, the first turn at Suzuka, various spots at Sliverstone, and below the yellow line at Daytona

Hopefully we get this fixed...and move on to the next problem. And for why PD would do put this in the game will just be another mystery.

I still believe in you PD....
....but for how long.....??

I did some tests, it does not matter if you have the track edge setting to Normal or Real. TC still cuts in.
I agree that you seen levels of grip reduced to be the same as in real life but surely they can do this without forcing TC on us.
Even driving arounf Silverstone if you go off the track and on the concrete parts you still get TC in 1st and 2nd. I notice as speed increases you get less TC (3rd and 4th gear)...oh, i was in a GT 300 RX7 thingy

Worse part is you can't spin yourself around if you are facing the wrong way and you have to drive yourself out, which doubly punishes your error...

It's been like this since day one :(. I found out within the first hour of playing the game, as I'm sure many other people who drift a lot did :banghead:

From a realism point of view, not having an option to turn automatic TC off just kills it.

From a drifting point of view, it is absolutely devastating :( There are dozens and dozens of great sections that are either partially or completely off of the race track...all of them now useless because of the TC. This is number one on my personal list if things that need to be fixed ASAP

Yeah I remember discussing this in the drift forums at launch. The alternate lines at Streets of Willow are undriftable, save for the skidpad.

I don't think it's much of a mystery. It's an aid to help you get back on track. The problem is that they don't realise that it's ruining things like drifting, and that a lot of us don't even want the aid in the first place.
