GT3 for me .. I still play it today along with 4 and still own GT'S 1 to 5, 1 at the time was amazing but 2 for me wasnt as good, 5 is great but still work in progress ,ive spent many hours on all the GT series , by far the greatest racing series ever

GT4 has so much going for it. Even down to how wet roads look wet (with the exception of SSR7)- how could you accept this PD? The only thing that tells you a road is wet in GT5 is the spray.

Graphically it's more polished and well rounded, certainly of higher quality, given the hardware limitations, which I'm sure they were more aware of than they were in the development of GT5. Imo they overestimated "the power of playstation" and as a result the final product suffered.

GT5 has a far better physics model, though imo. It's my favourite despite its shortcomings.

If I had to rank them:
1. GT5
2. GT3
3. GT1
4. GT2
5. GT4

I would put GT Concept 2002 in just above GT3, though. GT3-lite with a return of Autumn Ring, lots of new cars, refined but still great fun physics from GT3.

GT2 for me. It had a big wide selection of cars, and most of them had a RM. You could buy a lot more performance parts for your car, you could put different wheels on any car, and there was a lot of great tracks, pikes peak for example. This was the introduction of rally mode, so there was a lot of rally tracks.

It all depends on what you look for in a game though.

To me, if you updated GT2's graphics/physics, added a drag racing mode, and few up to date cars, it would be the perfect game.

GT2 easily wins this hands down. Gazillions of cars and almost each and every of them RM'able. The sheer variety of races and cars in GT2 makes GT3 and GT5 especially look like failed attempts of an ill-talented office temp

GT4: more races, no griding needed, better rewards, drag racing, better contol of replays, better filtering of garage and UCDs.

How many of the GT5 voters have actually played at least two of the previous games?

Me (at least). GT4, GT2 and GT5: Prologue. And although GT5 lack of such a vast amount of events like in GT4, is still the best

Mark the Tape, GT6 Is going to be the Best GT game ever! I just found an old OPM magazine with the GT4 Preview which had an Interview with Kaz and he admitted that the Even numbered GT games(2,4)are always the best because the odd numbered ones(GT1,3,and now 5) are the First ones for new hardware. GT1 on PS, GT3 on PS2 and Now GT5 on PS3.....Using that logic GT6 is going to be A beast!

If your only criterion is the number of things to do, then okay. I don't think that is the whole story though.

I also didn't find GT2 that impressive at the time because GT1 had already done that.

If we're truly objective, then the PS1 games have crappy visuals, poor sounds and rubbish car handling. But if you have your rose-tinted spectacles on and nostalgia is in the air, and you try to remember how you felt at the time, then it's easy to be drawn to GT1 and 2, and of the two GT2 is far more extensive- although as I said, for me GT1 came complete with a thick atmosphere of true ground breaking brilliance.

I can vividly remember the amazement and excitement of my first go on GT1, and I cannot say that for any of the others.

Yes. Clearly they should be scaled. In one of my earlier posts I mentioned that GT2 had horrible graphics. This was in relation to GT1, not GT5. People are hopefully respectful of the capabilities at the time in making their selections.

Though, PD should be worried. For a game that is allegedly their "Masterpiece" it doesn't appear to be doing all that well in the voting.

I think that this has some merit except for one glaring issue. It took PD anywhere from 3-6 years (depending on who's counting, and how bitter they are that day) to get this game into our hands, and it's clearly unfinished. Lets assume another 3 years... I'm just not convinced that we won't have a playstation 4 out by then, and then we'll have to go through all this nonsense all over again.

This whole "standard cars" issue simply allows them to release "more vehicles" without updating the graphics. All of the standard cars in GT5 are simply models from GT4, SOME are clearly from GT3.

So if we decide to look at it this way, then GT5 is simply the "GT6 Prologue"?

My issues with that however, are that this game has many of the features that we'd see in a second system release. The cars are all there, they changed the way the AI responds, updated the physics etc. But the continuing online content is going to certainly slow down the production of the next game. I'm just not that optimistic about the next GT series.

How many of the GT5 voters have actually played at least two of the previous games?

This was a point I was thinking about last night. Many people probably just haven't bothered going back into "history" to source these games, and with most of the new PS3's not being able to play the older PS2/PS1 games, I'm not surprised that the first two have as few votes as they do.

What drag racing?

GT4 Had drag racing along with Nitrous iirc.

I fully agree with this.

I still enjoy GT3 a lot, even today. In terms of a fun game, GT3 is best.

I voted for GT1, because back then it was total revolution in all aspects, it was cool and pashioned at the same time, a true classic never to forget.

My personal favourite GT game is 3 though, that is why I quoted you. Man, I remember playing it for the first time, the graphics were so unbelievably good, totally unreal! (well you know what I mean)

And then came the moment I tried it for the first time with it's offcial wheel, the first time I played with a Force Feedback Wheel, I was SO BLOWEN AWAY! This game made me so addicted, back then, it simply was perfection. (imo)

GT5 has an online component. The other games may have been better overall, but in the end it is the online battles which will keep players coming back once they do everything they possible can in the single-player mode.

I feel like the online component is nice, but I think it may be being used as too much of a crutch for a game that otherwise could've been epic.

Grrr...I can't really vote fairly on the poll. Best how? Each game had features which could potentially make it "the best". Here's my thoughts & opinions

GT2: best for just all around fun. Getting in some crappy car you've never heard of, and then changing it around to become a superstar. That's GT2 for me.

GT5: best for physics, car dynamics.

GT1: best for technical data. Power & gearing graphs still haven't been replicated as well as they were in the first GT.

GT2: best race mods

GT5: best online capability & fun (duh).

GT2 & GT4: best for easy money

GT5: best for atmospheric effects (duh again).

GT4: best understeer

GT2: best memories (GT1 runs a close second place here).

GT2 & GT5: best drifting capabilities (but in much different ways).

GT2 & GT4: best "encyclopedia" of cars (GT5 doesn't really count yet since most of the cars in this game are ported, not really unique to the game, but GT5 runs a close second since they FINALLY included my Boss Mustang).

GT1: best racing game on consoles (for its time)

GT1: best (fastest) menu system

GT5: best (most detailed) menu system

....I could go on but you get the picture. GT3 is the only one I haven't mentioned so far. That's because it's my least favorite. :( OOPs!

GT3: best replay system. There I said something nice about GT3. 👍

Lol i didn't say we'd see GT6 in our lifetime. Yeah it's gonna probably take 40 years but it's gonna be good!

Oh BTW GT4 by a long shot! That's where all the previous games finally took hold in my head and I got it! My least Fave....GT1 because it was so realistic and I didn't understand Racing lines or under oversteer and the Nuances of Racing.

I voted GT5.. technically it is best..

But in reality I enjoyed gameplay of GT4 best.. Still GT5 is better overall for me in the end. Hard to explain...

Exactly what i think. 2 months ago i'd have said GT4 hands down but GT5 has grown on me so much, it has so many things you can do on it besides just racing. It's great and deserves higher praise than it gets :)

To be honest, it's all a blur! I got each one around when they came out, and might mix up details about which stuff was from which game, so my vote may be incorrect, haha.

Edit: looked up some details, it appears GT3 was my favorite for it's time. GT5 might be better now since it's current, but in 5 years, I'll definitely prefer going back to GT3 over GT5... That's how I define better.

GT3: best replay system. There I said something nice about GT3. 👍

But thats why I said which one is "best". They all have their relative stregths and weaknesses, but which one is the best?

There was a drag strip (Vegas), just no drag events or way to use it for anything other than 0-400m or 0-1000m testing.

Yup my bad thats probably why I didn't remember it. I just looked in the GT4 forums.

well the point is, I want drag racing, not just another 400m track single car track. 👍

I'd say GT5 is the best IMO, especially with its online. Sure GT4 had a lot of races, but I never completed many of them because I wasn't really all that interested in driving against the AI. My nameless b-spec driver carried me through a majority of the career mode, while I just used the money to enjoy hot lapping or whatever. In GT5, I can now hot lap with custom music and occasionally test my skills out online too.
