There seems to be a couple of debates going on about which game is better, GT2 or GT3, so I've decided to make a thread about it. Share your comments, thoughts, whatever on what game you think is better than the other and why.

i personally prefer GT3 but thats because i`ve been spoiled by the graphics, so if GT2 had the same graphics that would be my choice.

<shrug> Big plusses and minusses to both sides of this one.

I find that the cars control alot beter in GT3 and the graphical improvements go without saying. ('cept I said it anyways)

GT2 was amazing with the sheer volume of cars. Dunno how many times I started over picking X car over the Y car I chose the previous time. It was a shame it was released all bug ridden and not completed though.

You can say that about GT3 as well. There are typos and glitches through-out the game. Nothing quite like not being able to complete the game due to poor math skills on the designers part (ha ha), but there are still problems.

I would have to say the revamped GT2 (the one that's beatable). If you want a fair comparison of games you can't just base it on the game. Keep in mind that GT3 has a much more powerful console to back it. GT2 took better advantage of what it had to work with than GT3. So from a design standpoint I would say it's the winner.

A lot of people also like the menu system and the options better in GT2 than in GT3. There are also more cars and tracks, and racing fields are more ballanced in GT2 as well.

So what does GT3 have going for it? Only the benifites of the PlayStation2. Audio and video quality, USB steering wheels, and iLink. Without that it doesn't come close to the final release of GT2.

Lets throw in current pricing and see what we come up with.

PS2 with GT3 package: $340
PS2 memory card: $35
Total: $375

PSOne: $100
GT2: $20
Memory Card: $15
Total: $135

Well ok then ...

hahaha - See, I personally hated the menus in GT2 - I was just too dense to remember what manufacturer was in which city.

Wasn't the US in South City or something odd like that?

<shrug>

I agree completely with GT2 being much more involved - I was rambling about that elsewhere in a different post - that I loved the horsepower restrictions and such - "I don't have the willpower to stop myself".

Ok, I admit - I was just killing time at work and didn't have anything terribly intelligent to say (which could be said about this post as well)

lol

Perhaps I'll just lurk some more. :D

Well, I personally have been abusing the lack of horsepower restrictions on the Amature Dream Car Championship. I've been running one of my F094/H cars inorder to quickly win RX-7 LMs in all the colors. So far so good (: I'm told there is a yellow one which is the only color I don't currently have. But I've never seen the yellow one so I don't know how much I believe that.

If all the cars were available at the car dealer after the game is 100% complete, all the money we've been stock piling through the game would have meaning. Things like the Viper Concept, and all the LM Race Cars. And the Mini! (:

Now that I am so far off the topic of the original thread... I'm relatively sure that I've got a saved game backed up here that has the yellow RX7 LM. Argh - too many saved games.

Umm... I can tell you there are a grand total of 5 of the RX7 LM's - (I checked with that goofy Hybrid program). I'm just far too lazy to walk to the other room and fire up the PS2 right now. (I'm in shape, just pear shape)

*edit* ok, don't rely on me for info - I apparently sold all my dups a while ago. <shrug>

this is completely irrelevant.....

how could you compare the price and technology of something that is 6 years newer! :)

I would say GT2 with GT3 graphics. The gameplay in GT2 is the best ever yet. GT2 is probably the best game ever for the PS1 IMO.

I would have to say GT3 wins. Its all about the car handling... In GT3 the physics are much more realistic than in GT2. In GT2 it seems so easy to just go powersliding all over the track after playing GT3. GT2 has a bunch of extra goodies, but when it comes down to the actual racing, GT3 wins hands down, no questions asked.

GT3 all the way. Typos and small little details like that do not detract from my gameplay experience in the slightest. And while GT2 had many more cars, the handling and graphics are not even close to GT3. And we are comparing a second generation game (GT2) to a first generation game(GT3) the second effort on PS2 I'm sure is going to be monumental.

gt3 man! definetly way better than gt2! the only little dissapointment is that there are fewer cars. id have liked to see the Venturi atlantique and tuscan speed six and those other sweet cars from gt2 in gt3. but the graphics and performance of gt3 are untouchable!!!

Caribra comes to mind. LoL

Acheived comes to mind also

I agree about the pricing thing, too. That is almost irrelevant. I would have to agree with all the handling comments made previously. I have noticed the handling has that special something to it that GT2 didn't have. GT2 may have been limited to some handling features. The difference in 4WD cars' handling comes to mind....
