Who else likes tuned road cars in RH tyres?

I like cars with tires. The compound is irrelevant to me.

Why do you care?

YOU created a thread asking everyone's opinion.

I feel that SS is more than adequate grip - whereas you like RH. Fair enough. I'm just getting my point across, just like you.

Racing tyres of any kind on a road car is unrealistic.

So if you had a real road car and unlimited funds and were going to a track day IRL, you wouldn't put the softest compound tire you could on it?

Racing compounds are not DOT/MOT approved, rendering your argument moot.

Yes, there are approved tires for high performance driving, but those can hardly be considered racing tires due to the compromises engineered into them.

I did a little research online. Some track day organizers will allow racing slicks, it all depends upon the regulations set by them and the track. So I would say this isn't a moot point.

That's the beauty of this game, you are the track day organizer

So I pose the question again, would you not select the softest compound tire available?

The game becomes fun when you use default tires with a wheel. I have a G27 and with racing softs, the game is boring. With cars that slides a little, now you have something ! And I love to make the tires squeal (comfort/sport) on every corner I take, even if it's not good for them !

I see a lot of lobbies set up for tuned road cars only but their almost always using racing softs with tyre deg turned off  Its SO unrealistic IMAO! Use racing hard and u have something that feels a lot more like a simulator ( of course no aids except abs ). The cornering speeds are more lifelike. So if anybody agrees?
Would like to set up some proper races with like-minded racers. Love lambos ford gt etc but on RH:)

Boy you opened a can of worms...lol..:banghead: You'll find around here that any discussion that remotely involves the word "tires" and "realistic" will bring GT5'ers out of the woodwork who will expertly tell you that driving a street car on a track with more grip than a wooden tire provides is akin to cheating.

Enjoy the game any way you see fit. At some point down the road, if you tire of racing with maximum grip tires, certainly give street or stock tires a go and you might find you enjoy it. Try it now for a while and you might find you enjoy it too. But if you want to put RS tires on a Vitz, go for it if that's what you want to do. Main thing is enjoy the game, have fun, and don't listen to others who make you feel you are wrong or cheating in some way by throwing racing tires on a street car. The vast majority of GT5'ers enjoy all kinds of racing and RH tires on 500 or 600+ street cars is lots of fun to me and many others playing this game. Racing is racing, no matter how!!

I have so much respect for this response. He understands what this game is about. FUN

Fun is against the AUP.

There is no wrong way to play... which is hard for me to live by after seeing some of the other ways people play. I don't let it bother me because I typically don't play with those people.

The AUP only applies to GTP, not GT5. So you are likely allowed to have fun in GT5, although it is frequently discouraged quite strongly by those with a different definition of what fun is.

+1 million 👍

Mmm...I have slightly different views about tires! lol
For instance, my fully modded Enzo, SLR, and Super Veloce are so damned fast and powerful, they do classify as race cars, at least in my books!

Due to the lack of frontal downforce (Thank you PD), I have to add racing tires (albeit Racing Mediums) to these cars in order to keep them from flying *facepalm*.

Don't get me wrong, I practice with Sports soft as well, and actually can do really good, like beating LM cars at La Sarthe with my 922hp Enzo on SS :sly:
But, these are just extraneous cases. For almost everything else, I use Sport softs :)

Oh how i wish you could RM all the major premiums including dlc.... Would be a dream come true to have Gallardo, 458, R8 even scirocco RM'd like the GT1,2,3 class. Bet pd would give u at least 30-40 points of front downforce

RH tires are the only race tire I'll use on modified road cars, with SS being the lowest I'll use.

I only use RH tires on road cars to try and simulate GT4 and GT3 racing series, since we don't have enough aero parts for GT1/GTE/GTAM and other items as well.

Whenever a noob uses his car/tires as an excuse, I've recently found myself changing from shuffle to spec one-make races with tires and tuning prohibited. This allows me the chance to find out if the problems were the car, or the driver.

For these races, I choose RH since they're the same ones used in shuffle. Afterwards, no excuses, and typically good times if the racing is clean.

It seems like tires have become a crutch that a lot of drivers use. Another excuse in the book. To me, that's just poor sportsmanship, regardless of win or lose.

It depends if the car I setup are meant for those tires and conditions for the road.
I think of tires in GT5 as real life counterparts like Comfort Soft is Potenza RE-01R, Advan AD07, Sports Hard as AD08, Sports Soft as A048 and Racing Hard as Yokohama, Bridgstone and Dunlop Slicks

I'm a bit confused am I a noob, or are you trying to say that I'm making excuses or is my post just a catalyst to other things? I'm just trying to understand the link to you replying to my quote.

Either way, if you are claiming that I'm like others (that's if), I only use the RH cause the other two are far gone off the realism bus than the RH. I prefer SS tyres, but since I started running series as well as trying to start a tier system. I find it more feasible to have lower classes run a more specific tire to what series they're in and the RH tire for as I said the GT4 and FIA GT3. Also I come in contact with many people using RH for GTP events as well as Sport Softs, thus it is only habit to favor those two compounds for me.

I was explaining my tire choices for the races that I run. More than one member here has stopped by for a few races, so I may as well educate future members that may decide to join.

I used your example as a +1 of sorts, although as stated earlier, tire compound never bothers me. I certainly understand the choices you make, as I seem to follow suit, albeit for a different philosophical reason. Changing the compound is just another adaptation I must make in my technique during a race, and I've experimented with the compounds enough to justify my confidence.

Notice I never said that I was fast, nor good. Hell, I'm an awful judge of that, and have found myself consistently 3-7 seconds slower than the fastest players I've met.

I don't believe someone should be persecuted/judged based upon their compound of choice. As with using driver's aids, using harder/softer compounds doesn't necessarily make you a better/worse driver. Given the opportunity, most drivers I know would snatch up every opportunity to be faster than the next guy. If you tell a driver that putting a statue of Mickey Mouse on his car will drop seconds off his time, you'd see Red Bull attempting to sneak one somewhere in their car. Same with Ferrari, Caterham.. everyone.

I hope I am not one of them :scared:. I had great times racing in your clean and relaxed room, can't wait to have a go again soon :)

That wasn't directed at anyone here, by any means. Everyone I've raced from here, regardless of skill level, has at least been a decent person. When playing online, finding a good group of racers is better than gold.

Most of the problem kids are the ones with the loudest mouths, and the constant need for approval/attention. The jerks that feel the need to lay on the horn for as long as possible before every race. The ones that whine over every little pass, regardless of how sloppy they were in front. Kids in diapers, regardless of age. People that think that swerving on a straight is a legitimate defense, because they don't know/can't counter-attack. The Holier-than-thous. Racists. Clowns. Children.

I come to race, not to babysit. Thank you, GTP, for not dropping off the kids. 👍

If it doesn't matter, then why ask? That's all I'm trying to figure out. Not sure why you're getting so defensive.

It's called curiosity. You should try it sometime. As for being defensive, sounds like you're a bit jittery there. Racing soft, much?

CH for cars up to 500 pp, SM for race cars like GT500. Loads of fun online. Cheers JayJN, cheers Leapper :)

Problem is: it's nearly impossible to beat the record lap time at sarthe with Peugeot 908 using RH tires.

I'd say RM for prototypes. See what u get with them

Geez, lighten up a bit, I was only wondering. No need to attack me over it. 👎

I like to perform the weight reduction, add race suspension, aero and all drivetrain options ( no race spec tranny), change oil and use RH tires. I leave car stock in all other aspects, and the car is a lot of fun to drive. I just like it that way. But hey to each there own.

I regularly hosted a practice room, usually I made the room with this title : Practice, no ABS, CM

Players who joined my room can use any car, no restriction, except for CM tire and no assist at all. We did have fun track days, believe it or not, some players I met drove tuned Ferrari 458, tuned RUF RGT, Super GT cars and I drove Camaro Z28 RM. The Camaro is very hard to drive, have to be smooth in everything, but it's fun for track days at the 24H Nurb.

I also did an experiment driving a Woodone Supra JGTC, stock with CM tire, no assist, got a sub 2 minute lap at Fuji Speedway F, changed to XJR9 LM premium, same setup, got 1:5x.xxx, slow for CM tire, but it was fun doing it with fellow like minded drivers. Most importantly, it's possible :) Please don't call me crazy, most players who joined my room called me that:ouch:
I'm using this as an example race cars don't use comfort tires ii think that is more unrealistic than race tires on a street car...
