Everyone here seems to be a noob about this. It's called nitrous oxide, N2O, or simply nitrous. Not "NOS". NOS is a brand name like Nitrous Express and Venom. C'mon people, don't talk like a bunch of 12 year-olds please.
Lol, I think many people know it's a brand, but many people also say Kleenex instead of facial tissues or Xerox instead of photocopy. It's a genericized trademark. It's okay, doesn't make everyone a "noob". 👍
I'm just pointing it out because it annoys me when idiots who think they know cars start saying it like they know everything about everything when the truth is they don't. It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine.
Race cars in general don't use nitrous because they don't need it. You won't see a formula car running pump gas, it's already running a race fuel that would probably be less effective if nitrous was added. It is effective in street legal cars to give a temporary boost, where the street compression is not high enough to effectively run race fuel.
The reason you don't see nitrous used in normal racing is because using it for more than, say, a quarter mile drag race could be severaly harmful to the engine, and it's not worth taking the risk to gain a little speed on a straight.
I did know a guy that had nitrous on his race bike (CBR1000 maybe?). That thing was crazy fast on the longer straights.
I think you don't normally see it because of race regulations. Nitrous is just another method of getting oxygen into the combustion chamber, so I'm assuming any internal combustion engine could use it.
You're thinking of the F-Duct that reduces drag ^^, KERS is a battery that charges when you brake, using the energy to provide power to the wheels.
ive been in a 450 bhp evo 6 tme with a 100 shot of spray and belive me when that button was pressed I thought it was going to go back in time it was that quick, a proper brown trouser momentNitrous is essentially a poor man's turbo with a use really only needed in drag racing. No offense to nitrous users in real life, some may prefer it. The push to pass system someone referred to earlier is simply a more aggressive ECU mode that allows the car to run at a higher RPM for a brief period of time. Same concept as nitrous but it is stil not needed in that case because the car still has power to tap on its own.
All the nitrous does is act as more "air." A turbocharger/supercharger does the same thing, each having its own limitations but the biggie with nitrous is that you have a finite amounts of sprays.
Furthermore, in reality the idea of spraying on the fly really doesn't apply. My experience with nitrous users has been with builders who are tuning their cars to run nitrous for the entire run, not just for the "sleeper" effect.
There are some that claim spraying the intercooler or spooling up the turbo with nitrous will help but you only see that in cars with fewer cylinders. May sound cliche' but there is no replacement for displacement.
JMHO.
Herp derp.It seems a lot of people are saying it shouldn't be included because it's not allowed in real life. So what about the Zonda R in a race? What about JGTC vs Super GT vs DTM races? What about tuned road car vs race cars? What about driving the car from the outside! None of these would be allowed in real life, but are possible in GT5.

complete waste of time to put nos in GT5. NOS is for tuner punks not racing cars. In what race series do you see race cars using nos. Besides draging. NOS is dead
Can i ask everyone who said "no" toNOSnitrous/nitrous Oxide/N20 in GT5 if they actually read what i wrote and understood the intention of my OP and subsequent reply?
NOS, nitrous, nitrous oxide, N20 who the hell cares, its all the same thing...man, talk about nit picking/getting your knickers in a twist over nothing 👎
PS, those who say that "nitrous" is for punks should know that i hate "pimped out rides" or whatever the term is, i LOVE classic cars and nothing beats chrome trim on a car...new cars suck eggs!
