Who else wishes GT5 had NOS?

Everyone here seems to be a noob about this. It's called nitrous oxide, N2O, or simply nitrous. Not "NOS". NOS is a brand name like Nitrous Express and Venom. C'mon people, don't talk like a bunch of 12 year-olds please.

Lol, I think many people know it's a brand, but many people also say Kleenex instead of facial tissues or Xerox instead of photocopy. It's a genericized trademark. It's okay, doesn't make everyone a "noob". 👍

I'm just pointing it out because it annoys me when idiots who think they know cars start saying it like they know everything about everything when the truth is they don't. It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine.

It seems a lot of people are saying it shouldn't be included because it's not allowed in real life. So what about the Zonda R in a race? What about JGTC vs Super GT vs DTM races? What about tuned road car vs race cars? What about driving the car from the outside! None of these would be allowed in real life, but are possible in GT5.

Race cars in general don't use nitrous because they don't need it. You won't see a formula car running pump gas, it's already running a race fuel that would probably be less effective if nitrous was added. It is effective in street legal cars to give a temporary boost, where the street compression is not high enough to effectively run race fuel.
The reason you don't see nitrous used in normal racing is because using it for more than, say, a quarter mile drag race could be severaly harmful to the engine, and it's not worth taking the risk to gain a little speed on a straight.

I did know a guy that had nitrous on his race bike (CBR1000 maybe?). That thing was crazy fast on the longer straights.

Understandable 👍

I think you don't normally see it because of race regulations. Nitrous is just another method of getting oxygen into the combustion chamber, so I'm assuming any internal combustion engine could use it.

Yeah, good point. I'd be concerned about adding anything "extra" into a high compression engine running 112 octane race fuel, as you are already starting to run the edge of what the components can handle without breaking. That CBR with nitrous was in an "anything goes" race class.

Nitrous is essentially a poor man's turbo with a use really only needed in drag racing. No offense to nitrous users in real life, some may prefer it. The push to pass system someone referred to earlier is simply a more aggressive ECU mode that allows the car to run at a higher RPM for a brief period of time. Same concept as nitrous but it is stil not needed in that case because the car still has power to tap on its own.

All the nitrous does is act as more "air." A turbocharger/supercharger does the same thing, each having its own limitations but the biggie with nitrous is that you have a finite amounts of sprays.

Furthermore, in reality the idea of spraying on the fly really doesn't apply. My experience with nitrous users has been with builders who are tuning their cars to run nitrous for the entire run, not just for the "sleeper" effect.

There are some that claim spraying the intercooler or spooling up the turbo with nitrous will help but you only see that in cars with fewer cylinders. May sound cliche' but there is no replacement for displacement.

JMHO.

You're thinking of the F-Duct that reduces drag ^^, KERS is a battery that charges when you brake, using the energy to provide power to the wheels.

argh, right. i was quite busy at work when i posted that and didn´t think haha. shame on me

ive been in a 450 bhp evo 6 tme with a 100 shot of spray and belive me when that button was pressed I thought it was going to go back in time it was that quick, a proper brown trouser moment :scared:

Yes. Why? I LOVED it on GT4! The thing is, as long as I can remove it or prevent use online, I'm a happy racer. :dopey:

Herp derp.

I think that an overboost button would be a great addition to some cars (t's probably the same thing as KERS, i'm not fimiliar with that system)

Of all the features they have left out I hope Nos is the last they bring back. Ideally it should never be brought back. In my opinion it would ruin the game.

You have to laugh at all the people who are still calling it "NOS"

That's a name brand which is an acronym for nitrous oxide systems, the general term is nitrous. It was pretty much pointless in the old game, and it would cause super lag online because people would be constantly leaving and entering the track to refill their supply. I vote no.

I think the NOS system would be hard to impliment with the PP system, since its on a user demand type system. And yeah, I called it NOS simply to bash all you trolls that just rage when people don't call it nitrous. If they did try to impliment it, they would for sure have to just disable it when the PP system was set as the online lobby regulation. I really did have a lot of fun with it in GT4 though.

pretty cool.

back in college, I worked with a few guys that had a small speed shop that has turned into a large business. a few of their track Civics dnyo'ed at over 500 hp and they were running nitrous for drag racing - it is a cool feeling and a very noticeable difference!

my opinion though*, there isn't really a practical use for it outside of drag racing.

*for the record, my opinion and $1 will get you a cup of coffee and that's about it

Well I have used nitrous on track courses and in drag racing, I would like to see it as a viable option as it is irl. Im not a street racer and I detest NFS games but still it IS a part of racing albeit a very shunned one from purists and ignorant people.

complete waste of time to put nos in GT5. NOS is for tuner punks not racing cars. In what race series do you see race cars using nos. Besides draging. NOS is dead

Right, so they should get rid of everything that isn't part of a modern official racing series.

/sarcasm.

Can i ask everyone who said "no" to NOS nitrous/nitrous Oxide/N20 in GT5 if they actually read what i wrote and understood the intention of my OP and subsequent reply?

NOS, nitrous, nitrous oxide, N20 who the hell cares, its all the same thing...man, talk about nit picking/getting your knickers in a twist over nothing 👎

PS, those who say that "nitrous" is for punks should know that i hate "pimped out rides" or whatever the term is, i LOVE classic cars and nothing beats chrome trim on a car...new cars suck eggs!

Get with the times, yes, I was waiting for this game so it could have this feature, it IS a car sim and nitrous oxide is a real chemical that can enhance the cars performance. Even if it's not used, it would be nice to have installed on the car. I must say I am disappointed it's not in the game. It's also like how you can't customize your paint.. I know this isn't NFS but COME ON YOUR BUDGET WAS LIKE 60x THEIRS AND YOU CAN'T ADD THAT? hmph. p.s. don't start a war of old vs. new because new cars only exist from the lessons of the old, and so they're both amazing feats of engineering.

Maybe for the Tuning Skylines,S2000's and stuff like that , but not for roadcars and race cars.
And like some before me said: Damage to engine if used to much.
Or Much faster Oil change needed.

Could be nice but nothing i realy wish for in GT5

if you don't want to hear no for an answer then don't ask the question.

It would be cool if they brought it in but only have certain races allow it, also if you could turn up the boost on cars with forced induction during a race for that extra bit of speed. One day maybe...
