Hey y'all

I'm using the newer 40gb ps3 with 2 usb ports. I updated the firmware with no problem. Newspaper says that Sony pulled the 2.4 update one hour after release due to reports streaming in that some ps3 console got bricked by the update. I guess I'm kinda of querying and see how widespread the damage has been done to the GTP communtiy. Bricked console anyone? :grumpy:

So why are you asking about a PS3 issue in the Prologue forum?

Moving...

I haven't bothered to update mine yet, for obvious reasons.

I updated mine yesterday. The first I knew of any issues with it was this thread.

My PS3 still seems to function OK, although the only thing I've done on it since the update is watch an avi, listen to some mp3s, and do some Folding.

I updated two PS3's yesterday and had no problems besides a small network glitch (that is gone).

No problems here.

I have a PAL 60GB and every firmware update has gone very smoothly over the last 12 months I've owned it.

:)I got A PAL 60GB and downloaded the 2.40 Firmware a day after the release.

It's been fine no problems whatsoever.

I had a network issue with mine too before i updated (couldnt play online but could use the browser and the playstation store but was fine after the update and no issues since

Nope, no problems with a 60GB version with a wireless connection. I've had network errors while updating before, but this was while the update was downloading, not installing. My PS3 just restarted and finished downloading the update, and I was fine.

it seems to me that we have yet to find someone with a bricked ps3. Maybe those with bricked ps3 is too pissed to come on gt planet and talk about it. FOLKS!! It's okay to VENT here. We are here to listen and help. I read somewhere that formatting your hdd might resolve the problem. That'd mean the hdd will need to be removed and formatted by some other means. E.G. formatting via laptop or a pc with 3.5 to 2.5 adapter. My ps3 works fine. Reason I'm writing about this is cuz I have so much pride in Sony. I know their products are one of the best in the world. Bricked PS3 owner, come forward!

Obviously they can't get online as their PS3 is bricked ;-)

I updated my NTSC 20GB and its working fine. I also read on the Playstation Blog that the problem can only occur whilst the system is updating, so it looks like everyone that updated is in the clear.

The firmware was up for a lot longer than an hour yesterday, based on UK time it was up around 4am and got pulled late afternoon early evening.

Updated my 60gig launch UK PS3 around 9am and its been fine.

Regards

Scaff

I updated my 60GB US lauch PS3 via WiFi and have had no issues or problems at all.

The same is true for my folks' PS3 as well.

I also sent out an email to some of my fellow HT gear heads who own PS3s, and so far everyone that has replied has said they have not had any problems with the 2.40 update, and they have various versions of the PS3 so I doubt the issue is with a specific model. 👍

I also update via wireless also. I think the problem that people get is that they are interrupting the install of the firmware somehow like shutting the console off or even the power fails because of mother nature.

what the hell, i cant even download it yet!! since yesterday i was hitting system update to get the update but i always got the error message saying that the server is down due to updates etc... i guess now i know why i'm not able to downlad 2.4 anymore...

it bricked mine :(
40gb pal only 5 months old
wont load any discs but all the stuff on the hd works fine
sony man told me there was nothing they could do but replace it
and that will take a week

btw it was working fine intill the update
it even worked after when i was testing for imgame music
but the problems started when i turned it off then back on later
the joypad wont stay with the system it only works by usb cable
and it just wont load any disc
least i know its not just me as theres posts all over the net about it
on some forums they have even put links up to download 2.40
i strongly suggest NOT downloading ANY copy of it intill sony fix it
if it works for you fine nice one..but if your yet to install it id wait
till they bring out the new version last thing you want is a messed console

you can always try and do this

or wait for sony to fix 2.40 and re-install it

Updates PAL 60GB Launch PS3 at about 8.00am yesterday and been fine, glitches I've had I put down to general PS3 mishaps rather than the update, Wired download (not wireless :) )

Im almost certain that Sony will roll out 2.41 in the next week to fix whatever issue there is or could have been lurking in either the download process or the update itself..

I would advise like others that if you havent already got the update and you dont have a dieing urge to play online to hold back till another update comes or some new info from Sony is released. Trust me you will doing yourself a favour!

Sony really need to sort this problem out for future updates also because there are going to be much larger ones to come like Home...

Robin.
